The ratings for the Halloween episode was the WORST the show has EVER HAD!!! Which is pretty SHOCKING to me! Especially when you consider it was a Halloween episode. I hope the ratings pick up, because I don't want to see this show go!

I think a 8 pm or 9 pm slot would be much much better for this show, as it is pretty tame for a 10 pm slot, and would do better with family hours of a hour or two earlier.

she said yes!!!! obv, but i hope crosby bangs max's therapist for some excitement. i want me some minka kelly.

this episode wasn't awesome but i enjoyed it. i guess in a show where sometimes there is not much tension, having lots of it was good...albeit some of it seemed resolved too quickly...hopefully the two demanding jobs keeps lawyer wife and construction dad on edge.

the shelter's manager (real name michael b. jordan lol) is from friday night lights so i'm excited to see him as well.

and jabbar's new friend is awesome.

You would think a lawyer who charges $600 an hour could afford a nanny. Most of the plots in the episode were pretty good, but I thought this one was a little bit too implausible. I like the intent of showing Joel struggling to break out of his stay-at-home dad role, and the tension that causes when Julia has to do more of the mommy stuff. But the execution was flawed; it's just ridiculous that no one even mentions hiring a babysitter.

The show is done by the same people also. I expect to see a relationship between these two, that start out at hating each other, to lovers by season end, and something that her parents frown upon heavily because he is from a poor family compared to theirs.

Pel, good points. i too like the intent. and you're right about execution. in my head i justified the lack of nanny discussion as it being urgent and temporary so they didn't have time/desire to interview applicants. as for why no babysitter or family member or family member that is also a babysitter that they've already used (amber), i was glad we at least got zeke involved to show the writers aren't totally ridiculous. even a line of dialogue from one of the parents (probably christina) saying i refuse to let a stranger watch over our daughter would have sufficed. but yea...the urgent phone call during the meeting with the partners was iffy at best.

and btw, she's not charging $600/hr. the firm is. she probably makes 200-250k if i had to guess...not the million plus that hourly equates to.

nuc, i didn't realize it was the same people. but i think your predictions are spot on. i was wondering if they were gonna play up the interracial thing and while they could considering crosby and his lady are one and they're getting married it would be kinda hard. they'll have to go the wealth angle i guess.

Well they already sorta teased that relationship for next week. Her parents are going to have a problem with it though? I don't see that. Seems as though Crosby is sufficient to fill the interracial angle.

Also Christina is quietly pretty funny. She rocks.

They will have a problem with it because they don't want their teenage daughter banging anybody regardless of color or social standing.

Why is Amber more mature than her mother?

I think it will be because he is from the poor area, and very similar to what we saw in Karate Kid with Dainel, and Ali. Maybe they will throw in a storyline that the kid steals something from their house, but it was actually lost, and then found by one of the parents, Max, or maybe even Zeke, or Crosby without knowledge.

I just saw a preview for next weeks episode. Krauses character punches a guy at a grocery store! I thought Zeke, Crosby, or the other husband for sure. But Peter? No WAY! I guess his sister will end up being his attorney.

I'm not always a big fan of the overreactions on this show. Over drama turns me off. This show did a really solid job last year of basing characters on some liked drama, some were level headed. It seems like this season everyone has to go for the most dramatic angle.

Joel storming out of the kids play seemed really out of character for him based on last year. This year him throwing selfish fits seems common place.

That being said, I did like the Amber stuff along with the Zeke and Camille dynamic.

Just watched the episode and was coming in here to say exactly that. Loved the scenes with Zeke and Camille. And Mae Whitman was great as Amber, as always.

Biggest laugh for me came when Joel and Crosby were arguing and Joel walked out and you saw all the kids dead silent when they had been running around screaming just a minute before. Best way to shut up a roomful of kids is to argue in front of them.

Also, lol at the fact that the school has a parent volunteer direct the dumb little play. That is a job best left to trained professionals. Herding around a bunch of kids? Expecting them to learn their lines? It's not pleasant, trust me.

Finally, wtf with Haddie going after Alex even after he told her he's alcoholic and doesn't want a relationship right now. Instead of backing off, she just flirts even more (and obviously, he was returning her interest). It just didn't seem realistic to me--I would've expected her to back off a bit.

I agree about Joel. Of course, he did warn Jasmine that once you marry a Braverman, you have no choice but to become one of them.

Yeah, because when teenagers are 'in love' their decisions and behavior are typically very rational and wise.

If the head guy didn't like Joel as the play director last year, wouldn't it have been easier to appoint a different person this year instead of causing family strife? Rude. Joel seemed more self confident and content last season.

I watched two episodes back to back and can't remember which stuff happened on which episode, but the highlights for the past two weeks for me were Adam punching the supermarket jerk and Zeke trying to play counselor to Adam in Crosby's boat. I also liked Jabbar (sp?) telling Crosby he was a boat guy. The scene was cute, even if contrived.

I don't think he knew they were related from a comment Crosby made. As for the confidence, I'm wondering if
Spoiler:
he's shooting blanks.

Looks like this show isn't going to make it past 2011. In February it will be moved to a Monday 10 PM timeslot. This show nees a 8 or 9 pm timeslot to survive.

Bump for new episodes.

This weeks episode is what was so good about last year.. Each group of parents having to deal with major issues for their children. All at different levels of kids.

The Adam/Kristina/Haddie dynamic was really well done. You do not want your 16 year-old in that situation and have no way to explain to her why.

Julia and Joel being the new age I have to be honest with my kids parents then finding out there are certain times when that is just never going to work.

Really well done all around.

Next week it looks like they are getting set to be annoying with Adam's new boss...
