Planning on voting. Just keep reorganizing my list. Probably gonna end up changing the balance a bit and piss some people off because only few of the current top 10 are in my current top 10.

1. Breaking Bad – Not many high quality shows are able to reach this level of popularity and not only keep raising the bar season after season, but also stick the landing. They had a plan, and didn't drag it out more than necessary just to cash a cheque. Well-deserved #1.

2. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – I feel like I’m ranking this too high, but when I see shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm (wtf, didn’t they only have like 1 season this decade?), Parks and Rec, and Community ranked ahead of it, I felt I had to. It’s obviously nowhere near as good as it used to be, but the best seasons/episodes of the decade gave me more laughs than any other show, and I appreciate that they’re still trying new things after all this time, even if it doesn’t always work. As long as they keep making them, I’ll keep watching them.

3. Justified – Another show that had great characters and managed to stay at a very high quality throughout its entire run. I even thought the first season was great!

4. Banshee – For pure entertainment value, this is pretty hard to beat. It’s so over the top in all the best ways, but it never attempts to take itself seriously. If there was ever a show made to be binged, this is it.

5. Vikings – Travis Fimmel as Ragnar gives one of the most compelling performances of the decade imo. And while it's still a good show without him, you certainly do notice his absence. I love Last Kingdom too, but Ragnar >>> Uhtred, so this wins.

6. Boardwalk Empire
7. Peaky Blinders
8. Silicon Valley
9. Spartacus
10. Hannibal

I avoided miniseries and shows that haven't been around long enough to really fall off a cliff yet. There are also some big holes in my TV watching (GoT is definitely the biggest), and other shows that are highly regarded that I just don’t get (excluding miniseries/nature docs, Rick and Morty is the 4th highest rated show of all time, even ahead of The Sopranos. I mean, the show is fine, but seriously?).

The ones from 6-10 are pretty interchangeable really, and I could probably replace them with a completely different set of shows and feel satisfied. I'll chuck in some HMs a bit later, I guess.

Tl;dr – I made a list.

11 Mr. Robot 73
12 Veep 68.5

I did feel very conflicted about voting for true detective as I obv hated season 2 and season 3 was just whatever but ultimately season 1 was just so elite I decided to go for it.

i didn't spend too much time thinking about it but if I really was taking this super seriously I probably would have to remove TD from my top 10 due to how weak the 2nd n 3rd seasons were. I basically just acted as tho season 1 was its own show and that's what I was voting for.
01-08-2020 , 01:49 AM
Well there's no F'ing way You’re the Worst is better than Mr Inbetween.

That one screwball voter, Master, screwed that up with his 1st place for it.
01-08-2020 , 02:37 AM
mr inbetween is so good but I feel like a lot of people haven't discovered it yet.

adding you to the spreadsheet now, using SV and TD as your 2 point honorable mentions. you can always add more/change your ballot as well if you forgot something
thanks andrew, i was being lazy.

this doesn't need to go on the sheet, but my #13 may well be american vandal. i am really high on that show.

Man I forgot about American Vandal, Idk what I would bump to give it honorable mention. The fact that this is the first mention of it means more people should watch it. Another one I was thinking of that no ones talked about is The Patriot.

I looked at a picture of the actor, and decided there's no way I'm looking at that guy for a whole series.

Just filled out my Top 9 + HBs. I didn't do a 10th place because it was a show not on the list (Godfather of Harlem) and I don't know the protocol for adding a new show.

Others that did not make my top 20 that were not listed but I still think should be mentioned in case others have forgotten:

Falling Skies
Colony
Mayans
Gotham
The Flash
The Magicians
01-08-2020 , 01:34 PM
I will add Godfather of Harlem and put your #10 pick.
01-08-2020 , 02:02 PM
Thanks Parisron.

The nobody cares, but I have too much time on my hands this morning defense of my list:

Boardwalk Empire - I know I like it more than most, but thought everything this show did was meticulous. My 2nd favorite show of all time behind Deadwood. And that's with the rushed last season.

Fringe - Walter Bishop might be my favorite TV character ever behind Ian McShane's Al Swearengen. John Noble is just fantastic on that show and Anna Torv is not too bad either.

Watchmen - About as good as a single season show gets.

Shameless - Struggled with this because even though more recent seasons have suffered, there were several elite seasons to start this run. More that most shows listed had in total.

The Leftovers - Example of a show that started slow, but got stronger each season. I still can't figure out if I believe Nora.

Game of Thrones - The last season definitely dropped it at least a slot or two.

Westworld - Might be a bit higher, but it can be difficult to follow at times (see entire second season until the end).

The Man In The High Castle - Loved first two seasons, haven't even see the last two yet. Similar to Fringe with the parallel universe thing.

Breaking Bad - Struggled here because I was late to the party. I think the massive hype I was getting going into it lessened my enjoyment of it at least in relation to most others. Certainly felt it deserved a top 10 spot though.

Godfather of Harlem - Just a single season so far. Great cast and will probably move up my list with future seasons, considering my top pick here.

--- HBs

Stranger Things - Not a thinky show. Just pure 80's fun.

Person of Interest - Very undervalued show. Big fan of Michael Emerson's work since Lost. All came together and ended very well. Gets more serialized as it goes on. I've heard it referred to almost as a modern day Batman.

Mr Robot - Had it's ups and downs. Loves S3, still have S4 on DVR.

The Americans - Also had it's slow parts, but solid overall show.

Homeland - Like Shameles, some peak early stuff with some ridiculous stuff in later seasons.

Legion - Another one that was tough to follow, but I think they did the source material some justice here.

The Deuce - I was a fan of the time period and setting more than anything.

Arrow - One of the better comic book tv shows ever done.

12 Monkeys - Another show that started "meh" but seemed to get stronger as it went along. Season 4 was one of my favorite seasons of any tv show this decade, but earlier seasons weren't strong enough to make the top portion of my list.

The Orville - Not a trekie or fan of the one and done show format at all, but even though it's not even strictly a comedy, which I expected, it's so well done that it just drew me in. Really a credit to McFarlane in his ability to make such diverse shows.

nice list, Boardwalk Empire seems to be a victim of what have you done for me lately...def top 15 show but prob should be top 5-7.

actually just updated my list and put it in my top ten and knocked off Barry to the HM pleb list.

gotta finish Mr. Robot buddy, excellent final season if you can deal with what Esmail puts us through
01-08-2020 , 04:44 PM
added mine. didn't think too much about it and would probably change it a bit.

1. Breaking Bad
2. Game of Thrones
3. Fargo
4. Better Caul Saul
5. Succession
6. True Detective
7. Atlanta
8. Peaky Blinders
9. Westworld
10. Ozark
01-08-2020 , 04:48 PM
Being that your top 5 is almost identical to the current top 5, I am surprised you don't have Justified in your top 20 even.
01-08-2020 , 06:56 PM
looks like all voters are accounted for with 44 total entries, still don't think we'll hit 50 parisron?
01-08-2020 , 06:58 PM
here's the post from '17 by Yeti with that year's results, guess we can use this as a template when we're finished. think he edited the OP of the nomination thread with the results, so if we can get him or another mod to re-do the OP that would be helpful. or we can just start a new thread.

thought we did at least one more since then, but this was all I could lazily find:

You'll notice that I used 1st place votes as a tiebreaker where available, including to crown the winner. I'll post some more detailed stats in the next few posts.

For now, bring on the discussion! What placed too high/too low? Predictions for 2018? Westworld to repeat in a GoT-less and Leftovers-less year?

Lastly, remember that a lot of people use this thread to choose what shows to watch next, so please keep it spoiler-free.
handmaid's tale with a solid showing that year haha

Not unless a bunch of procrastinators come in late.

I like seeing the entire list, I don't care only about the top 10. Plenty of good shows even in the 50 to 100 and worse.
