He left $3800 on the table, he was almost locked out going into FJ. He would not have been in the lead going into FJ had he maxed.

Yeah, you're right, but he would have been within 2/3. Regardless, he bet like a pussy on a second-row clue against a better opponent.

Haven't read thread, at first break...
Guy Alex Jacob said to watch out for has answered "Animal House" and "PCU" in the movie category that must include "OF THE"

This guy

LOL at "Animal House" for the model of Devil's Tower.

FJ was pure intellectual FPS. He stretches for the arcane answer instead of the obvious one.

All,

Oh man, 4/27 game. Obviously it's a completely different scenario sitting on my couch, but dude's $2000 guess was such a bad decision. First off, that's never just gonna be Greece at the $2000 clue. And more importantly, $2000 doesn't increase your chances to win, but missing takes you out of contention.

And of course, the unlikely WWR scenario where that decision costs him the game ends up happening.

Ouch.

I thought that as well. Of course, he also couldn't let the champ get it. Then the woman could have wagered nothing in FJ, ensured she at least got second and end up winning.

Buzzy says he had piano recitals at Carnegie Hall for 10+ years.
Alex asks if he ever got offered a contract.
- No, no contract...
... Well I guess you weren't that good. - Alex

What a dick

In Final when he's reading Buzzy response he says, "... Picked the wrong correct response". Whaaaaaaaaaa?

The default second place wager seems to be, "bet enough to pass first by $1" with no other consideration. 1st is almost always going to cover bet. 2nd could have considered that and won on the 1st/2nd double stumper.

LOL all the hopeless guessing lately. Though that's my couch style, so I'd probably do the same thing.

Dan,

Yesterday was a really good example of what someone wrote itt recently - jeopardy really is a wagering game too, and it's kind of crazy more contestants don't put in just a little bit of work to get way better at that aspect of the game.

Be careful or I will go on (another) innumeracy Vs illiteracy rant. Housing mess and all...

I'll just leave it as: It's called JEOPARDY not TRIVIA.

Oof, that $1800 wager seems pretty bad to me. How often does $11k earn a wild card slot?

For the teachers it is probably near a coin flip. Because there will be a lot of bad wagering. I think 13k is the number for better tourns, but that is just a guess.

I've always said that quarterfinal wagering in these tournament is the most difficult situation you can find on Jeopardy. In this case I think the best wager would have been one that (assuming the leader bets for the win, which is optimal in this case) wins by a dollar when both 2nd and the leader miss and/or locks out third. The max bet that can accomplish both. If it's a wheelhouse category then bet it all. I don't remember the exact dollar amounts from today.

The history teacher didn't know which British PM signed the Munich Agreement? Or really any history related questions.

Then wagers only $1,800? $11,000 isn't going to g to you a wild card, right?

What was the point of the 1600 bet. It wasn't enough to lock her out if she gets the final 2k clue correct and a tie isn't both advance anymore.

Dude gets final daily double he has 21600 and she had 10000, he bets 1600 and misses it. There was only a single 2k clue left after the last daily double

Seems like a Language Arts teacher would know the 4 syllable word for public speaking, along with the other hints in the $2K final clue.

My favorite Jeopardy thing is when one person answers, is wrong, but the other 2 assume they're very close and just wrongly guess.

Who are the New York Yankees?
No
Who are the New York... Mets...?
No
Who are the New York Rangers???
No, we were looking for the Atlanta Braves

Grrrr. I hate the teachers tourney. Indian teacher in middle bets big (yay) but not as big as she should (boo) on both DDs in DJ and gets a huge softball triple get FJ as a reward.

Don't have exacts but roughly:

1st DD. She trails 9400 to 11000 to 15000. She wagers 6400. Sounds gutsy but if she misses she is buried so just go for it.

2nd (late) DD she leads 18600 to 15600 to 9400. she wagers 8000. She is in a bad situation if she misses. Pretty good if she hits. But still she may as well just go for it.

Guessing the J! Board is either really praising her for being gutsy or tsk-tsk she was reckless.

I feel like you could make a case that leaving yourself with 3000 gives you a significantly better chance than 0 with two full categories left.

You could make a case but it would be a weak one . She would pretty much have to run the board on both catergories whether she had zero or $3000 . At least she wasn't afraid to bet big which seems to be the biggest mistake contestants make on DDs .
