Pretty sure thinking had nothing to do with it. Wow. I didn't think anyone could possibly eclipse the champ's stupidity in the episode, thinking Playboy Magazine had stopped using photographs and then skipping down to the 1600 clue on Depp with time running down when the 2k clue was what he needed to prevent a lock game. Or did he!

I'm not home tonight and she is probably being inundated with questions from everyone. She is super book smart..

I was in the same graduating class as her, she was class valedictorian. Clearly our school failed on street smarts with that wagering amount.

This was linked on the Jboard. Now idea as to veracity. Trying to figure out what math error makes that wager make sense.

Dan,

Seems pretty obvious what the mistake was.

She calculated 7200x2=14400, and 14600-14400=200, so she could bet 200 and guarantee at least a tie. With new tie rules, she had to subtract 1 to guarantee a win, but accidentally added 7500 instead.

I'm guessing this thought process.

1. I love this category, I'm almost never going to miss.
2. If I do miss, the question will be so tough, so will they.
3. If they're rational, 2nd shoves and 3rd bets $0
4. I'll bet enough to beat 3rd's $0 bet on a triple stumper.

Now that's serious 5th level thinking.

Awesome. I approve.

I thought about the "this is my F category I want more monies" thought process, but the category was "Western Hemisphere". The clue could've been something ****ing like "this endangered snail has been losing population since the year 1995 due to deforesting policy in Brazil"

FWIW, I didn't say I agreed with the logic I postulated, I just worked backwards from the number she chose.

Kurn, Dan:

Something like Kurn's explanation makes sense, but she prob actually meant to win vs both in a triple stumper no matter what they bet.

So my guess is she meant to wager something less than 7400 but screwed up the math and bet 7700.

That poster's obsession Julia during her long run accidentally risked $100 too much once.

Which leads me to think she meant to do something less than 7400 and accidentally added a little to that instead of subtracting a little.

14600--bets 7700. And Alex sounds impressed.

Here's what I believe she was thinking:

1) 2nd place (7200) can tie me if he bets it all, so I have to bet something to win.
2) I'll bet enough to be 100 ahead of 3rd place (6800) if myself and 2nd place get it wrong, because 3rd will clearly risk 0.
3) Thus, 14600-7700=6900.

Nuk,

Oooohhh that would make a lot of sense.

And if he had 7300 instead of 7200, 7700 seems like a pretty optimal wager for her if she likes the category.

Annie's FJ wager tonight cements the fact she has no strategic clue. The new champ's wager further cements LOL women wagering.

Ugh. It was even the situation where I think there is merit for 3rd to wager 0 on the assumption Annie was going to go big incorrectly from 2nd. Which happened but didn't see that 1st place wager. There are rational non-cover wagers. That wasn't one. Brought 3rd double up in range and was more than twice the difference of first and 2nd in case 2nd went for a cover 0 wager.

Of course they do, women just make them with far greater frequency.

I crunched several seasons about 5 years back. Women made bad wagers twice as often as men in FJ.

Shouldn't be a surprise if you watch even on a semi-regular basis.
