Watched s1e1 of white lotus. I’m confused. Is it a drama? A comedy? Either way, I have little desire to keep watching. Does it get better?

Will Trent on ABC/Hulu is good after the first episode. Kima (The Wire) is in it.

Thought this was pretty good. One thing I did notice was how much it suffered from not having a theme tune. always felt like something was missing between segments/at the start/end of episodes.

Stonehouse - Three part series based on the true story of government minister John Stonehouse, who spied on the UK government for the Czechoslovakians and later went on to fake his own death while actually fleeing to Australia with his mistress.

Very crazy and often hilarious story with Mathew McFadyen being brilliant as Stonehouse.

Special Forces - World's Toughest Test is a fun show on Fox (replays on Hulu). 16 Celebrities competing. Wow, Kate Gosselin is a mess in every way. lol

If you didn't enjoy the first episode then the show is probably not for you as that one of the better episodes in season 1 if I recall and definitely represents the sort of style the show sets out to be in future episodes. I'm not sure how you describe this type of show but id say it's suppose to be a witty comedy drama. I liken it in comparison to the elements of comedy you find in Alexander Payne films but not as good overall.

I wouldn't call WL a comedy, but there are certainly funny parts.

Yep. Not sure what term I'm looking for but the Alexander Payne films like Election, Sideways, About Schmidt, etc are certainly similar to the style of White Lotus and while they certainly all are very heavy on the drama side there is alot of I guess dark humor also presented in them. Maybe it's just some of the situations the characters end up in, idk.

Example in the recent season of White Lotus where the grandfather, father, and son found out their blood relations from Italy's address and went to visit them expecting an amicable welcome based on the grandfather's friend or someone that had also looked up their heritage experience. There was alot of build up to them meeting them however for them it turned out to be the complete opposite experience. Stuff like that I think is quite funny but maybe you wouldn't really call it comedy.

Above average espionage show, eight episodes. I’m a sucker for this genre. This one has excellent production value, slightly above average acting, at least three attractive women, and Roy from The Office as White House Chief of Staff. The plot is slightly less implausible than Jack Ryan’s 2nd and 3rd seasons, but suspension of disbelief makes this worth watching. I hope they do a second season.

What does it say for Jack Ryan that a show that at least at moments goes out of its way to satirize the CIA spy genre has a more plausible plot.

ginny and georgia

i like this show a lot. season 2 just dropped on netflix. its about a single mom and her teen daughter, so it doesn't really hit 2p2 demographic that hard. but if you like those kinds of shows, i highly recommend

good characters, great writing, good story telling, good acting, good directing.

it's like gilmore gilrs with a true detective flavor

Interesting. I wrote this one off. Enjoy espionage stuff. Will need to give it a go I guess.

I can't believe I got to Mythic Quest so late. Godamn.

You know the writers are good when they create 2 totally new shows inside their existing show, and the new shows could be their own shows.

I'm so impressed.

Spoiler:
Just did the CW origin story episode, incredible

Does Mythic Quest get better at some point? The six eps I've watched (with the notable exception of S1E5, which is like something from a different show) are almost unwatchably bad. The jokes are just so tired. Poppy freaking out about someone stealing her food or something, Poppy ranting on the phone to the wrong person, a man sitting down stands up and turns out to be very tall - was there ever a decade when any of that was funny? It's incredibly milquetoast humour.

I'm almost done. Don't really recommend it. It's not the worst, but if you have other stuff on your watch list, maybe go elsewhere first.

It certainly does get better but I liked it from the start. Not a lot, but enough to keep going. Season 2 is very good and some of their pandemic material was honestly amazing. Season 3 just finished last week and it was fun.

It’s similar to Suits early seasons imo, just with an espionage theme (which I do prefer). I’m likely onboard for one more season because it’s in that category of easy watching yet enjoyable and had a good season ending, but definitely not top tier. I have a feeling that the plot lines and drama between the characters are going to be rehashed again and again and get tired by season 3. Happy to be proven wrong though or continue to be pulled in by the espionage stuff.

Some of you might like I May Destroy You (2020) HBO max, 12 30 min. episodes
This was a nice surprise. IMO Very well done, acting, dialogue, story, music grade A.
That said, the content may not interest everybody. Story of young 20 something single British blacks living in London. Mostly about two close young women, an aspiring writer and an aspiring actress and sometimes a gay guy. They are hip, woke, into drugs, casual sex, social media, and the nightclub scene. The story tension involves what constitutes sexual assault in this hip culture with a sub-story whodunit about whether the guy that committed a rape can be caught. Similarities to the excellent Industry TV show
