Two shows I'm curious about

Underground Railroad - Amazon
Quote:
Follow young Cora’s journey as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. After escaping her Georgia plantation for the rumored Underground Railroad, Cora discovers no mere metaphor, but an actual railroad full of engineers and conductors, and a secret network of tracks and tunnels beneath the Southern soil.
Mosquito Coast - AppleTV+
Quote:
A gripping adventure and layered character drama following the dangerous journey of a radical idealist and brilliant inventor, Allie Fox, who uproots his family for Mexico when they suddenly find themselves on the run from the US government.

How does someone pitch that as a serious drama with a straight face? I'm guessing Amazon just wanted some black actors on their platform, which is fine but this dumb **** better be worth my time.

I'll change it to hack who wrote it, but I haven't read it or watched so I may be wrong.

Agreed it’s a crazy premise. Turned out to be an exceptional book.

Finished blinded by the lights. It really had so much promise and they just didn’t wrap it up well. Pretty tilting that everyone in the show didn’t carry pistol with one in the chamber.

seems like a historical underground railroad show would be great! way better than a fantasy about an actual subway in the 1800s

but if it won a pulitzer, maybe it's great

I really enjoyed the book, and Barry Jenkins has a good track record

Summer heights high is the GOAT Australian show, imo. It's on HBO.

Just finished it. It did struggle a bit, but I still enjoy space stuff and imagining what our world could've been if we continued as a space-faring nation throughout the last quarter of the 20th century and beyond.

I really wish humanity dedicated more efforts towards space exploration.

Spoiler:
Nirvana outro song was a little curious, but made more sense when it's mid-90s and they are now on Mars.

I look forward to s3.

I'm leaning towards the show just finishing as being okay, but I like that something good happened.

I'm still surprised at the pessimism towards the show. E1 was the weakest and the imdb scores reflect that. Since then it's been a decent improvement and I find it compares favourably to the kind of painful human interest stuff from the Leftovers. Certainly well above average TV.

I just rewatched the end of the latest episode, it's actually great suspense and tension. Kind of shocked they found the guy with 2 episodes left to go. Now we have to go back to her family stuff?

My bad, didn't even think about the spoiler, but it's 3 days after and nobody here gives a **** about the show.

After hating the early episodes, I'll change Mare of Eastown to great, not Sopranos or Deadwood or even Big Little Lies level, but the end of that episode was really good.

i was just reading about barry, maybe the best show to come out in a long time.

it's unclear if they started shooting season 3, but they wrote season 4 during quarantine so that's great news

The episode with that little ninja girl was one of the greatest things I've seen on TV in a while.

Also glad y'all are changing your tune on Mare. Really curious about wrapping it up in 2 episodes, but I can take a few guesses.

Barry is definitely the best show in a while, and could hit all time great status. I don't think as highly as some about the girl ninja episode.

You might like the British Happy Valley tv series (2014-2016) which is the same genre (tough lady policewoman with many family issues solving a murder case in a small English town) and probably was the basis of the Mare series. Its highly rated but might need English subtitles to understand the British accent and slang.

Pure conjecture about Mare following tonight’s episode:

Spoiler:
Bearded brother is the father, was going to kill his brother to pin it all in him

I could see that. But what the hell is up with the not-father dude and Erin’s best friend? The whole “linked by a secret” ****??
