Finished The Comey Rule, it was good. The worst part was the guy playing Trump. They needed Alec Baldwin from SNL skits.

+1 This was pretty good. I never heard of this guy. He's basically the Scottish Jeffrey Dahmer. Both cases are identical except from the cannibalism stuff. They even started killing the same year.

Speaking of, this new documentary on Dahmer is the best I've seen.

I guess I'm a police detective show addict. I've been binge-watching Amazons Bosch police detective series set in modern Los Angeles. Really shows off LA restaurants, bars, neighborhoods. Much better than I thought it was going to be, especially S4 and S5. Ignore the fact that Detective Bosch somehow lives in a spectacular glass house overlooking Hollywood.

If you're an extreme police show addict you can try Korean police detective whodunit Stranger (2017) but you have to go through 16 episodes and maybe 10 suspects, red herrings, double crossings, tricky cellphone evidence (samsung of course) , tons of sneaky video surveillance, backroom deals, and Korean customs liking slapping people, before the homicide case finally gets solved. Only the Koreans would make something this complicated. Lady Police Lieutenant Han Yeo-jin is one to watch not the lead guy btw.

Watched Des as well. Well acted and tries to sticks to the actual case facts without over-dramatizing. Catching Milat (2015) is a similar series.

i have a lot of issues with bosch. it's copaganda. but his expensive home is explained very well in the story. he was paid by hollywood because they made a movie out of part of his life.

Police misconduct is real issue, but I like these shows and they do touch on that some. Looking into it more, Bosch's house it is not as expensive (~$1m at purchase time) as I thought (~$5m) it was just way it was filmed to it look much bigger to me. So it is more believable than I thought. I have too much time on my hands.

touching on police misconduct(nice euphemism) doesn't make up for lionizing police by having the heroe(s) of the show be police.

Has anyone season any of Archer S11? I thought S10 was the final season, but it seems like they are back to classic modern day Archer, as opposed to 1920/30s or space themed Archer.

How on earth does Bosch "lionize" police?

Bosch himself is essentially a moralistic jerk (even though he's often correct), the show continually highlights police/government corruption, and s4 in particular focuses on LA cops framing a black guy and Bosch at least exposes that.

Thinking all cops are evil is pretty much on par with thinking all minorities are criminals.

bosch is kind of a jerk, but definitely a hero. i got in a big fight about "the shield" because i say even that show lionizes police. the cop characters break the law and steal and beat, but they are still the heroes of the show. we root for them to succeed, and they are written for us to empathize with them.

i can't really discuss this without getting deeply political. of course all cops are not evil, but that's a meaningless point to make. all nazis are not evil, or all kkk are not evil. saying all police are not evil, is not a valid defense of police as an abusive, racist, murderous institution.

u are aware of anti heroes right?

I assume the sopranos and breaking bad are not acceptable either?

anti heroes are usually the best kinds of heroes. i don't have a problem with a hero who is a bad guy, or part of a bad institution.

strangely i'd be more ok with a nazi hero than a cop hero. not because like nazis!!! but because it's so universally understood that nazis were murderous genocidal racists.

with cops there are too many people who do not understand that cops are so damaging to our society. it's pretty universal that people think cops do more good than bad. and i will be mocked and dismissed for thinking cops do more harm than good. and even if i am wrong, its still largely because of so much pro cop propaganda that cops have been away to literally get away with murder

Watched the 1st 2 episodes of Monsterland that just dropped on Hulu today. It's a horror anthology with 8 episodes. Looks good so far. The 1st one has some great scenes with Kaitlyn Dever and Jonathan Tucker(Boon on Justified).

neXt (https://www.thetvdb.com/series/next-2020/)

On FOX so it's probably bad, but seems up my alley

Quote:
Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc discovers that one of his own creations -- a powerful A.I. called neXt -- might spell doom for humankind, so he tries to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother, leaving him with nothing but mounting dread about the fate of the world. When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar, whose strict moral code and sense of duty have earned her the respect of her team. Now, LeBlanc and Salazar are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that, instead of launching missiles, will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data to recruit allies, turn people against each other and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
Is that Wolf Blitzer in the image??

"The Comedy Store" on Showtime tonight. 1st episode of 5, about the legendary comedy club in LA that most of the big stars got their start at.

David Lederman was a weather man. lol
Freddie Prinze "Chico and the Man" I remember that show.

Jimmy JJ Walker, about 7 years ago I stayed at Riviera in LV and they give you 2 free tickets to the comedy show and it was Jimmy Walker so I had to go check out Dynomite, he was pretty good.

Anyway its a good doc so far.

Watched The Comey Rule last night.

When watching a 'fact-based drama', I'll often see a scene that's obviously overblown and get turned off by 'that never happened'. Didn't experience any of that, seemed like it tried to just tell the facts. Not sure if that's accurate.

Certainly made Comey out to be a good person and good administrator, just trying to do things right.

Didn't notice any groundbreaking information. All in all, I'd say it's worth watching. Note that it's in two parts, so straight through was pretty long.

On a side note, saw in interview with Jeff Bridges recently about this. Over his shoulder was the same calendar I have in the kitchen from Tauck Tours. So I'm sure we'll bump into each other on some future trip.

Watched all 10 episodes of Ted Lasso.

They based a whole show on these promos from years ago.

I was expecting something similar to Eastbound and Down and instead got a show that feels like a sitcom for kids from the 90's . It's definitely not funny or clever or has anything interesting to say but it's watchable. 30 minute episodes helps. I would say it's better than Space Force but only slightly.
