Just finished binging a pretty decent dystopian sci-fi thriller on Netflix. It's a Belgian TV show mostly in French with subtitles, although you can watch a dubbed version as well. There are only six episodes, and each one is only 30-40 minutes long, so it won't take much of your time to watch the entire first season.

I don't want to go into any detail about the show, other than to post the trailer here, because different things are revealed in each episode. The trailer gives you the premise, and I think the show is a worthwhile binge.

Never thought I'd see Rake get posted about here! Probably my favourite Aussie show of all time

season 2 seems to be lagging a bit. i hope it picks up. it's still good, but not as good as season 1 (rake)

but i'm really loving it! best show i've discovered in a while

wait, if this is *probably* your favorite aussie show of all time, what the hell could be better? tell me! i want to watch. i've seen that one where the guy plays a teenage girl. not really a fan of that. i love the movie flirting! it's elite. and the prequel too.

i watched a bit of some aussie show about a doctor or detective who runs around in the 50s or something, and it was meh.

there was a bbc(?) show about whites in australia in like 1780 or whatever. and that could have been great, but was just meh, and cancelled after one season

also, very surprised to learn that in australia you're supposed to sit in the front seat with the taxi cab driver lol

Giri/haji on Netflix is good and worth watching. Tokyo detective goes to London to investigate a Yakuza murder. Kelly Macdonald from NCFOM and the actor who plays Billy Kimber both have big roles. Prob 60% of dialogue is in Japanese.

Good mix of action, intrigue, and character development.

I agree even though the end got a little weird.

I think each season is slightly worse than the last but each episode still gets one or two pretty hard belly laughs from me.

My other fave Aussie shows are very Aus-centric that really wouldn't track unless you've lived in Australia, know Australian media/politics etc. and they're also quite old and little outdated (Chaser's War on Everything and Frontline).

Most original TV from here is honestly terrible. I assume you're talking about Summer Heights High, I'm not a fan either. Surprisingly Australian Survivor is actually quite good.

Had high hopes for Snowpiercer on TNT but have been mostly unimpressed after 2 episodes.

Agreed, SNOWPIERCER on TNT has been pretty dull after 2 eps. I did really like the movie so my expectations may be higher than what is fair for normal comparison.

What made the movie interesting for me was the mystery of what was in the forward cars as the "tailies" battled their way up the train. They've already shown the entire train so so much for that. And some of the cars seem implausible and/or silly (plus a subway under the train cars?). The meat of the story to this point is a plodding murder investigation involving one person from the tail section and a person who died many years before the show started...and little else. That's it - not particularly riveting stuff.

OTOH the cast is great and maybe it will take a couple of eps for the show to find it's stride. I will give it a few more eps but may give up if nothing else interesting starts to happen.

Yeah I was a big fan of the Snowpiercer film but this is meh. The guy who wrote the original script and was going to be the showrunner got binned, and apparently a lot of the actors/workers left as well. So that didn't bode well to begin with

I am strangely enjoying Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, as it's not anything like I would normally enjoy. But the first two episodes were pretty damn good. I like how there are some dark undercurrents going on, like with Zoey's catatonic father. And the lead, Jane Levy, is damn good.

Jane Levy almost hooked me but didn't make it past 2 episodes. And only finished 2 by skipping most of the singing.

why would you watch this show if you skip the singing?

Didn't hit me until the 2nd episode, so that's when I bailed.

It's weird, I wouldn't normally like this kind of show (Glee, Smash, etc.), but for some reason, this one really works. I think it's because only Zoey can see the songs and dancing, and that they are internal expressions of the other characters, and Zoey has to deal with knowing their secret emotions. It's funny. But also strangely moving, seeing everyone's real feelings that they all fight so hard to hide from everyone else.

I'm 6 episodes in a really liking it.
