Watching American Crime. A surprising well put together show. It's a network show no? Seems a bit too dramatic for network. From the way it's shot it seems like it was a play or something before becoming a TV show. Lots of long static shots.

The reviews are murdering it. I read they're just making stuff up instead of following Manson's real life.

I'm up to ep. 3 and I think it's pretty good for a network show. All of the main characters are tied together because of Manson, but his screen time so far is much less than you would expect. I certainly had no expectations it would be historically accurate.

Duchovny as the thuggish cop (a late 60's version of Bud White in LA Confidential) is a bit of a casting stretch IMO.

Will continue to watch and will update if I bail on it.

Watched the 2 hours premiere. Its ok. I will just watch it on a weekly basis. No need to binge it unless DVR starts getting Time slot Jammed up when all the new shows start.

Pretty much. Though the big problem is like most of them are saying is that it's one show trying to be two shows. One is a police procedural with Duchovny as a hard boiled detective with case of the week and interoffice relationships and the other is a biopic of Manson. It never really works out.

Mr. Robot is currently rated at 9.4 on IMDb. I obviously had to watch the pilot and I did it twice, which is very rare.

Hopefully, It will be as good as the Daredevil's masterpiece.

Mr. Robot is fantastic!

Easily the largest difference in quality of title and show itself. Wasn't even going to bother with it until this thread because I hate the title so much.

I hope everyone involved with Scorpion and CSI Cyber watches this show and feels shame.

Sepinwall gave good ratings to new series "Unreal" on Lifetime.

Even when I watched far more reality TV than I do now, I had zero patience for dating competition shows. And I haven't watched a Lifetime show regularly since "Any Day Now" ended waaaay back in 2002.

Yet I've already set a DVR season pass for "UnReal," Lifetime's new drama set behind the scenes at a thinly-disguised version of "The Bachelor." That's how good it is.

"UnReal" (it debuts tonight at 10) was created by TV veteran Marti Noxon (whose Bravo show "Girlfriends Guide to Divorce" debuted earlier this year) and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, adapting Shapiro's short film "Sequin Raze." The show aims to pull back the curtain on reality TV to demonstrate just how much of a role production plays in manipulating and/or altering events to turn complicated human beings into two-dimensional character types (the bitch, the virgin, the desperate cougar) who can fill familiar roles in the same old storylines.
Might be especially of interest to BB/Survivor fans. I plan to watch and if good maybe start a thread.

Saw the trailer for this.

I know someone that was on the The Bachelor and her stories seem to match some of the details in the trailer. I'll give it a watch to see how accurate it is.

I finished Aquarius and I really enjoyed the music each episode (not Manson's music, that was pretty bad.)

IMO they left way too many story lines hanging, which is disappointing because it's unlikely to see renewal.

Watched UnReal last night. Meh.

The Good:

The things they do in producing the fake reality show are pretty accurate. Based on my conversations with someone who has been on The Bachelor. As a matter of fact many of the things that happened were pretty much verbatim to things she had told me.

The Bad:

The show is basically a Lifetime style soap opera. It's really more about the characters that produce the show. The female lead is OK. Seems like they are going for the "nobody on the show has any morals" angle. Too many of the characters feel very one dimensional.

I found myself while watching it thinking about what the average viewer would think of it or someone that watches shows like The Bachelor. Most would probably view the way the reality show is produced as an over-the-top caricature and they would view the real people's relationships as more real and genuine. Unfortunately the opposite is true. Everything about the reality show is about 95% accurate and everything involving the real characters comes off as fake and unreal. It's a show trying to be edgy and not really pulling it off.

I'll give it another episode but right now it's 5/10.

I have watched like 4 episodes of this. I'm kind of a junkie for that Manson Summer of Love era, but this show has to have some of the worst casting ever. You have a mid 50s DD and the mother of Emma is clearly early 30s, I think the actress is 31 playing the mother, and yet we're supposed to buy her and Duchovony as young lovers at one time. It's just so obviously bad that it's a struggle to even suspend reality.
