Shogun is coming to FX as a miniseries. The visuals in the trailer look impressive.

Isn't the 1980 version supposed to be one of the best shows ever made? I have it downloaded, just haven't gotten to it yet.

I watched the original back in the day, I remember it being good, I recently watched the trailer for it, wow video quality was horrible back then, lol, also the trailer for the old show doesn't make it look good.

This new one is not a remake and likely will be completely different anyway.

the old show has not aged well. i actually rewatched it recently(found it on youtube after some digging).

i found myself still getting into it, but it took a bit of effort because the 1980 tv production(budget, technique, aesthetic) was hard to take.

Definitely psyched for Shogun.

I recently reread Clavell's entire Asian Saga: Shogun, Tai Pan, Gai Jin, King Rat, Noble Hose, Whirlwind.

Spoiler:

And in the third episode in the Italian Alps, John actually seems to ruin the mission, but their handler on the other side of the computer doesn't seem to care.

Also, my main problem is the complete amoral lack of regret or even worry about, I don't know, killing a nine people in a house or burying a guy they accidentally kill in their garden. Like, they have absolutely no problem with any of it. Which could be part of the point, but don't also try to get all cutesy with their romance, you know?

Strange show.
I had the same reaction. Also, I'm not sure who exactly are they working for. Maybe I missed it. I probably will drop it, even thought basic concept is interesting.

Just watched the first 2 episodes of The Dynasty on Apple TV.

Not sue how this will be received by non-Patriots fans or even non Football fans, but I'm loving it.

I read king rat in my early teens and was absolutely fascinated really wish a streaming service would give a super talented group of filmmakers a ton of money to make a mini series adaptation of it that was very faithful to the book.

Working my way through the Traitors, finished Season 1 and caught up on Season 2.

Season 2 is miles better because it's all reality stars and some of them are used to strategy. The "missions" are honestly lame and there's no way the people are completing them on time, but I guess they can't have them failing every time so there's no money to win.

Don't want to risk getting spoiled in the dedicated thread, do we have a consensus on True Detective latest season quality ? At least watchable ?

The consensus is that it's not that great, Dominic says it's great though.

I would say if you don't go in thinking it's going to be season 1 quality, then it's watchable.

IMDB episodes
7.2
7
6.5
6.3
7.1
5.5 on finale
