Man I wonder what Sopranos would have done if Gandolfini died during the show. They'd have to just cancel it I think.

Still bitter that the announced Dark Tower Show-Movie-Show-Movie-Show project never went anywhere. Feel like that would be a really awesome concept and am surprised no one has really tried it like that - in fact, off the top of my head the only instances I can think of where a TV show used a movie to advance the plot of the series at all are the Transformers and GI Joe movies from the 80s.

The Dark Tower stuff is still planning on being made. I don't know much about it, but Aaron Paul was being heavily considered for one of the roles like a week ago.

Yeah, I read about that too. It's interesting because AP being approached to play Eddie Dean means that at least part of book 2 of the Dark Tower series will be covered by S1. My guess is the first season covers the first 2 books. Fun.

Have heard this so many times before, but damn it I do feel a little giddy hearing this...

'How the **** do people who have only read book three want a thread for them only? The show already added things from affc and from now on it will have to add things from even adwd. In a while the people who have read only book 3 will becomes as clueless as "show only" people, there's no need for another thread. Really wanted to post that there but lol spoiler nits

The way walking dead the show and walking dead the comics diverge would be really spoilery to discuss. Its like, its different but its also similar in other ways. They learned a lot from the errors in the comics and changed a bunch of things to improve it on the TV, plus a few things that would never work on TV had to be dropped despite being widely acclaimed in the books.

Re: Dark Tower, assuming I could bet against it being made every year I would snap do so and count the profits. That thing is only getting made over a long time frame on either cable or Netflix/Amazon with a heavy expectation it will make a loss for most of its run.

Let's talk about who should be cast for Lord Manderly.

The correct answer is Brian Cox.

John Goodman

Not sure if Goodman is a good enough actor, that role will require some srs bsns acting skills. Never seen him do a British accent, wouldn't want another accent disaster like Littlefinger.

And it would be pretty unusual for GoT to cast a recognizable American actor. They only did that with the munchkin afaik.

he's fat tho

Manderly should be a Jim Henson creation.

Who played Jabba?

I was joking
tho I do think we need a fat actor. some mannerisms from manderly are only portrayed well enough with a fat actor. like eating a lot, drunk, singing about the rat cook, getting sliced in near his throat only to stay alive because of his "second chin of fat", etc.

Is this inspired by that Lost in Translation scene or is it the other way around?

It is Brian Cox correctly pronouncing Scotch names

He's a good comic actor of course but he doesn't fit in with the GoT cast, or with the role. He seems to mostly do absurdist characters in Coen Brothers movies these days. Just really really different from what's called for in the Manderly role. I just can't see him making "The North Remembers" speech -- it seems tailor made for a British Shakespearean stage actor like Cox.

Although we might get something like THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU **** A STRANGER IN THE ASS, FREY down the line which might be OK.
