My bad. Forgot to add that part.

Blarghhh, this isn't the case at all! You should look up what protagonist and antagonist mean. And no, it's not pointless to discuss these ideas at all lol. It's actually the whole purpose of the show.

Is this directed at me?

I know exactly what protagonist means. Walt is the protagonist in the sense that Jesse is the deuteragonist. He is the focal point of the show. You can appropriate protagonist to mean 'hero' if you want, but the word has more than one application. Gilligan's application, my application, and yours are all correct, but at least give me the credit of not assuming that I meant it in a sense that would directly contradict what I'd said just beforehand.

I didn't mean to say it's pointless to discuss these things - you're right, it's not. It's interesting. What is pointless is trying to draw a conclusion, make an argument and come up with a definitive answer - Walt is a hero because of X, he's not a hero because of Y. When ambiguity is the endgame, you're just going to go round in circles trying to hit an impossible target.

I'm making the argument that ambiguity isn't the end game, though, that's the point.

Yea, ambiguity was the mid game. We're well past that point now.

We're conditioned to want to have a villain to root against. The cartel guys are really the only consistent "villains" in BB, and they only appear sporadically, so it seems that Skyler has become the surrogate villain for some viewers.
It's because she emasculates Walt. Simple as that. He just wants a choice! But it turns out, if he gets to make choices, they turn out to be really bad ones, so maybe she's not so bad after all.

He murdered her. Plain and simple. I know that wasn't his intent (or was it?) when he went over there, but he purposely lets the girl die. For what? To help Jesse?? BS. He lets her die because she is an impediment to his relationship - and controlling of - Jesse. Period.

Walt is the bad guy. He's a villain. And that moment is the tipping point in letting the audience know it.

Doesn't mean I don't root for him. I do.
Although Walt's motives were selfish, Jane dying was absolutely the best thing for Jesse. That chick was poison just as bad as Walt is for Jesse. They would have been both dead in a month. Which is why he can justify his selfish actions as selfless.

Similar dynamic with Walt as there was with the viewers and Tony Soprano.
06-20-2012 , 10:19 PM
I actually find season 1-2 SchyleR reasonably attractive. I've been skipping her scenes because they're about a tenth as awesome as the rest of the plotlines in the show.

The correct gif for the weeks leading up to S5 is:

I will now ritualistically grind S1-4 leading up to the premiere.

Okay, I revise. Misogynistic, sexist, immature and/or idiotic.

Yeah, a couple of heroin addicts with $600,000 cash in hand usually take the opportunity to get clean.

She was the one who was getting him into harder and harder stuff. They were poison for each other.

Yes, they said they were gonna "try to get clean". Then of course SHE ODs. Actions speak louder than words.

LOL @ had her best interest at heart.

Subscribed! So pumped!

Spooge and his girlfriend were no doubt planning to get clean too. Unfortunately she squashed his head with an ATM before they could get into rehab.

Watching through Six Feet Under for the first time, and Peter Krause just banged Skyler. That was really weird.
06-21-2012 , 01:33 PM
He'll always be Casey McCall to me.
06-21-2012 , 01:34 PM
Also, with Jesse Plemons added to the cast, I find it a little odd that Breaking Bad has cast a guy who looks somewhat similar to Aaron Paul and whose name is "Jesse P."
