1. alex smith > aaron rodgers because he finally has a workable offensive line that won't lead to his almost certain death and a legitimate receiver core
2. i wouldn't say jealousy, but i did bump because another one was made if there's already one. if that one is gonna be the official 49ers thread, np, lock this one up
3.

I can see Jerry Rice coming unglued emotionally at the ceremony in Canton tomorrow.

I LOVE YOU JERRY RICE! BEST PLAYER EVER!

He was such a huge part of my life growing up. I've been watching 49er games my entire life and Jerry joined the team the year i was born. my earliest and happiest memories were watching the 49ers and especially Jerry play every sunday. and i admit, i cried during his speech, since he is a hero of mine. he is my all-time favorite athlete and the greatest NFL player. ever.

heitmann out 6-8 weeks with a broken fibula which means he might miss the season opener. baas and wragge will compete to replace him.

in good news, davis and iupati have been promoted to starters at rt and lg.

it's not like coffee was great last season.

i believe robinson and anthony dixon will compete for the backup spot.

gore really needs to stay healthy this season.

Sees McCloughan still believes in Balmer, any idea on what happened with his whole leave of absence thing? Wonder if him and Singletary were butting heads or something of the like

rumor is that mccloughan was missing meetings and showing up drunk during the combine.

Being that he essentially replaces Coffee the only way to look at this is as an upgrade. The option to throw a lot of screens and other short, ball control throws should help Alex Smith.

sick 1-2 punch with the injury-prone Gore and Westbrook.

That's still a little optimistic. There's a reason why he's no longer with Philly. He's long in the tooth for a back. The OJ Anderson type career trajectory at this point is pretty uncommon. It's one thing to be an upgrade from the disappointment that was Coffey last season, another to be the Westbrook of old.

Maybe the best thing is that Singletary may be showing himself to be a draw to quality veteran players who have choices.

I posted this in the main NFL preseason thread so hope I'm not clogging too much by posting it here ...

Has anyone been able to order the NFL package through DirectTV without buying any of their other packages, or held to their 2 year agreement? Alternatively, are there any other ways of watching live HD NFL games that may be out of my market ( that don't include going to a bar )?

I'm a 49ers fan living in New York state ... very excited about this season
