Why didn't they just do this trade at the deadline last year
Still bitter about no moves when they had the opportunity

More or less. Not sure how it affects the rehab for a position player vs pitcher but in any case he was already dealing with it last year. In fact he was out all of May which made what he did last year that much more incredible.

At the end of the day it sucks but if Tex goes down...which he will at some point it's not like 1B is something that can't be filled in for a short period of time within the organization.

No...A-Rod DH about 75% of the games, 20% rest, 5% cycling the juice...Tex 60% 1B, 10% DH, 30% DL.

...and then played 1 game there all season. And was vocal about not liking it IIRC.

Besides, with the production they got out of him last year, I think they've determined (correctly or not) that the recipe for success with Arod is to just DH him and not **** around.

I think Ackley will be serving as a Backup player to both Headley & Tex. Let McCann manage the pitchers & bullpen as a catcher only. Don't overwork him. When A-Rod is given a day off, give McCann or Tex the DH spot that game. and Sanchez/Romine will catch or Ackley will be 1B.
