New England Patriots: Knocking on Seven's Door (Now with Happy Endings) New England Patriots: Knocking on Seven's Door (Now with Happy Endings)

PS I caught this from another forum but it's pretty cool because the CBS mic is close:

Brady gestures to pull Welker in "tighter" and he ends up as a pass-blocker, he yells "Alabama!" which is immediately repeated by someone on the O-line, then the play runs. Anyone understand what that meant?

I've heard Brady make calls like Alabama, Utah, etc. I don't expect to ever learn what they mean. I'm guessing he's reading the D and helping the O-line with who looks like they're coming on a blitz (???).

I'm just glad that Brady took Cromartie's advice and threw to the guy he was covering on that play...

Early in the year there was a play you could hear Brady clearly call out "Golden Eagle, Golden Eagle" and then hand it off to the Law Firm. During his radio interview on WEEI that week they asked Brady if Golden Eagle stood for a hand off to Green-Ellis and Brady said, "Oooops, I guess we're going to have to change that audible."

That play just shows one reason why Brady is so good. Picking up on the LB blitzing and it being man coverage, Brady calls Welker in tighter and audibles him to block, which effectively neutralizes both the blitzer and also Revis who is now relegated to standing in the middle of the field doing nothing. This gives Brady enough time to find the wide open receiver for the score.

I've always said Throwing Ability is fourth on the list of the attributes of a great quarterback. Split-second decision making is #1; Leadership #2;

(Dammit, I always forget what #3 is. Seriously. It will come to me, maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow, but it'll come to me...)

it's so hard to predict this stuff at this point. last year at this time Detroit and Buffalo and SF were a combined 1-14 (!!!) and Indy was 3-2

now those 3 teams are 13-2 and Indy is 0-5

Pats don't have to go to San Fran (even though that sucks for Brady, family-wise) or Arizona. They have to go Seattle, but otherwise this is excellent.

Good analysis, that sounds about right. Brady could have been calling blocking or blitzing assignment calls, who knows. But it's really cool to see it mic'd up. Def obv Welker was called in to block (if you watch him the entire video, he gets up after the block and gets thrown on his ass, heh). But it's also interesting to see the role of one of the OL relaying that whatever that call was right after to make sure everyone heard it. And that was at home. Can't imagine what devices teams need to use to get the playcall to all the guys when on the road.

Cowboys in silver helmets and dark blue jerseys, looks like an intra-squad game.

Well, that didn't take Tony Romo long! When's the last time the Pats sent a blitz in the first quarter? Gonna be a long day for Romo, they're gonna come after him!

This Kyle Love is gonna be the next Wilfork.

Pats blitz on third and short again, but Romo is able to convert a short one.

Heh, blitz on 2nd-and-18, Andre Carter gets the sack on 3rd.

Pats benefitted from a BS holding call to set up that 2nd-and-18, hope the refs don't over-ref this one.

To make it worse, for some reason they stopped having commercial breaks in the first quarter of the afternoon game. Anybody know why? Is it to make Sublime want DTV?

As soon as "those of you watching the Lions and Niners" joined us, we went right to our first commercial breaks. Is that why they don't run ads for long stretches of the late game? To make sure they can whisk those viewers to a game, instead of to a a commercial?
