My post had zero to do with Kris Dunn's potential. It was building on your thought about replacing Rubio with a wing. Patrick Beverley would actually be a really good option to accomplish the same things. Kris Dunn being capable of being that guy is a probably a stretch and grooming him to be that player doesn't make sense - not sure why you're so hung up on this.

What am i hung up on? Dunn sucking?

Pumped to avenge vs the Knicks tonight. NBA should play more home and homes. It's fun.

Dunn played pretty well in the first half. The whole bench did. And Ricky was pretty good too.

Yeah Dunn actually created some opportunities offensively.

Gave up 3 offensive rebounds off free throws. Really, really should have won.

Dunn looked really good. He can defend and he can pass (he just can't create). I think Thibs was gonna roll with him down the stretch but he made a couple of really bad plays in a row and got yanked. Encouraging!

Amazing!

Down 7 with 51 seconds left. 0.7% win probability

Article on Thibs that says some things i like and highlights why i'm hating him so far.

Quote:
A slow start isn't unforgivable, especially for a young team with a new coach, but there's little indication that the Timberwolves' poor play to start the year is merely an early-season funk.

Watching the Timberwolves play, you have to ask: Where's the athleticism? Where's the excitement? Where's this talent that can't be denied? Is this the team that was supposed to make the leap this season?...

The Spurs are a hard team to beat, no doubt, but they were shorthanded for Tuesday night's game and they are a squad that thrives in the half court. They can play an up-tempo game, but really they want to slow the contest down.

The way you beat San Antonio is to make them run -- you blitz them. That had to be a welcome message to a young, athletic, and raw team.

So why did Minnesota only have nine fast break points Tuesday?

Why did they play at a low-90s pace?

Because that's the way that Tom Thibodeau wants them to play.

And that's the way it's always been with Thibs. And if that doesn't change, the Timberwolves will probably never reach their full potential.
We should not be ranked in the 20s in pace, nor out of the top 10 in offense. Rubio turning into a pumpkin hasn't helped but our offense went from gorgeous to ugly.

Pretty nice to seem them close out a game like that. Wade gets owned at the rim late in the game and starts crying to save face, lol. I guess you aren't a superstar unless you complain every single time you miss a shot, and even some when you make it.

Butler and Wade's entire games are pump-faking and then jumping into the defender for garbage calls. They used up all their trash in the first quarter.

Helluva comeback, I missed most of it too. Gonna have to go back and rewatch.

Wiggins and Lavine looking so good. Wiggins is taking seriously his role as the guy who defends the other team's scorer. He's also rebounding. Zach's D is also looking nice imo.

Towns continues to blow.

Great game last night - best of the year so far. Hopefully it leads to more games like this.

Zach's defense looks adequate to good at times, and other times people blow past him like he's not even there.

Wiggins' defense is better than Lavine's, and he is very good at times, but sometimes he loafs.

Towns - after listening to Jim P talk about help D and how people are missing lots of assignments, its pretty clear to me that Towns is one of the worst on the team at team defense/missing assignments. His shot was way off last night too.

I think the biggest problem with this team this season so far is our "big 3" play defense only some of the time and they all pretty much suck at what Thibs wants them to do in the team defense concept. I think mostly its due to effort. It doesnt help that Shabazz plays defense like he is wearing roller skates, Aldrich, Jones and Bjelly are very slow, Rush sucks, Gorgui is slow and weak, Payne is terrible and we can assume Hill is worse than terrible defensively. Our top two PGs are the only good, consistent defenders on the team.

This guy, who is a Thibs fan, agrees with me:

How Thibs defenses work

Remember me? I’ve paid for NBA league pass to watch the Wolves due to Thibs. It’s not been the best investment so far…but last night was great.

The difference in defense from last night to the losing nights? Effort. Thibs defense really relies on two things: intelligence and effort. You have to know where to be always…and fight like heck to be there. On the losing nights…KAT doesn’t bother with staying between the basket and the guy with the ball. You can make it more complicated than that if you want…but watch for that specifically. Last night…KAT tried hard on defense. It "magically" worked. Thibs defense flat out requires ownership of the paint. Thibs teams historically (going all the way back to his Celtics defense) owned defensive rebounds and loose balls. Both are largely effort stats. Both give you extra possessions per game. In 5 – 8 point losses…how much would three extra possessions have been worth?

You gain blame Thibs all you want. But he has a track record of excellence. Nobody in the entire state of Minnesota is trying harder than him either. On the other hand…what is the track record of excellence for the Wolves? Are they trying as hard? Either the players win and eventually move onto better teams when their contracts are up…or Thibs wins and they become hard workers that fight for every single possesion. This seems an easy choice for fans imho.

I truly believe that one way or the other…Thibs will win.

I got that from the comments in the game wrap up thread at Canis.

Well hopefully some of it will make its way to the scoreboard sometime soon because so far this year Wiggins and LaVine have been horrifically bad defensively, if another team has a worse pair of starting wings on God help them.

Wiggins embraced guarding the best opposition wing his rookie year as well he just sucked as he does now at every part of it outside of guarding them when they are right in front of him.

Wiggins is rebounding a fraction more than last year and a fraction less than his rookie year so I would put that down to variance rather than anything else.

We basically have Dieng as the only guy on the team playing meaningful minutes who is making any impact on the defensive end.

There's a difference between "being assigned to the other team's scorer" and "being excited to guard the other team's scorer". Wigg's got the eye of the tiger now dude. He's also keeping tons of ORebs alive (tho not grabbing them). Wiggins is rounding out his game. Sorry it's not showing up in 'cite stats' yet. It is in 'watch games'.

He really looked fantastic last night, so active. He had a number of rebounds he didn't get but that he freed up teammates to get, the kind of stuff we've been clamoring for.

So he was excited as a rookie and he is excited now and still can't do it well on a regular basis
