DC isn't a minus athlete, that's what i was trying to say. He's a similar style player (undersized 4 who shoots midrange and rebounds) but a good athlete instead of a poor one. He's also a smart vs dumb player. And he's still only valued as a 3M/yr bench guy.

Any strength or power that AB has is purely theoretical at this point. He's been soft as baby **** and allergic to the paint; he gets shoved out of there happily on basically every possession.

lol, willie, I'll stay off your back as long as you dont take up $5.8 mil of cap space and a roster space on the Wolves.

As far as my comments about Bennett, I think I'm looking at reality, both by the eye test and everything I read from knowledgeable people.

These are not my words in the quotes, but they make sense to me:

Quote:
...they clearly couldn’t give Bennett away. They peddled him everywhere, including to teams with cap space to absorb him in exchange for a token top-55-protected second-round pick Minnesota would never see, per several league sources. No one bit. The Wolves probably could have dumped him on Portland or Philadelphia by attaching a second-round pick, and most second-round picks aren’t worth $5.8 million. But Minnesota’s upcoming second-rounders will be high, and if Glen Taylor is willing to eat most of that $5.8 million to preserve the 37th pick, that’s good for the franchise. Knowing Philly, it’d have demanded more than one second-rounder to get him, anyway. Such a deal would have netted a nice trade exception, but a lot of those expire unused.
To clarify, we could not give Bennett away. If we had thrown in some draft picks like we did to get rid of Johnny Flynn and Wes Johnson, that's probably what it would have taken for another team to accept Bennett and that albatross contract on their roster.

Quote:
Bennett has only one even semi-proven NBA skill: rolling to the basket hard, catching the ball, and doing something productive close to the rim. That’s not always an easy skill when a guy is too short to play center or protect the rim on defense. Any team playing Bennett will need another big to do those things alongside him, and if that big can’t space the floor, Bennett will just run right into him on his cuts to the hoop.
Very limited offensively.

Quote:
Bennett’s defense has been a horror show of mistakes, miscommunications, and shoddy effort. He lives in no-man’s-land. He arrives too late, or too soon, calls out screens as they’re already happening, and can’t sort through all the decisions he has to make in a few seconds.

At times defending the paint, he has looked tentative, and almost sad. He has long arms and some bounce, but he just hasn’t been up for the fight down there consistently enough. He has the mobility to give you a good first effort, but when the scrum starts to boil, Bennett sometimes just wants out. Every advanced metric on his defense, both public and private, is beyond awful, and that matches the eye test.

That’s the first thing Bennett has to change: try hard, every goddamned possession....
Historically bad defensively, and no effort. He fails the eyeball test and all statistical measures.

I read something somewhere else that said one of the many reasons the Wolves cut Bennett was because they are intending to play Shabazz at PF sometimes this season, and they wanted to free up some minutes so he can do that. That sounds good to me because I think his best position might be PF (I've said that before here I think).

Bazz is 6'4 barefoot. No way he's a PF other than extremely limited stretches. He's fine as a wing that can pound the **** out of weaker dudes and rebound like a madman.

I dont remember where I saw it, but when we go to a small ball lineup, Shabazz will play some PF. Of course he isnt going to be there all the time, but he does have long arms and is a good rebounder for his size due to his hustle. He also lacks the quickness and ball handling skills of most NBA wings. It looks like he's been getting stronger this offseason.

Charles Barkley is about the same height as Shabazz and playing PF worked out ok for him (yes, I know he was a lot bigger around). Gary Trent, Draymond Green, Chuck Hayes, are some other 6' 5" - 6' 6" guys that play(ed) PF pretty well. Hayes actually started a lot of games at center and he's only 1" taller than Shabazz.

Throw Andrew Wiggins in the mix for next generational superstar
by Austin Peters (@apete1993) — Hardwood Paroxysm, Upside and Motor
Wiggins’ rookie year was more than expected for that of a rookie and number one overall pick. He won the rookie of the year award while leading his team in scoring at 16.9 points per game and grabbing 4.6 rebounds per contest. Those aren’t bad numbers for any small forward, let alone a kid in his first year as an NBA player.
This summer, Wiggins more than impressed at the FIBA Americas tournament, an Olympic qualifying event. While Canada didn’t end up getting a berth, Wiggins was an absolute star during the tournament. In 10 games, Wiggins averaged 15.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the floor and 51.7 percent from three. Those stats won’t overwhelm you, but he was only playing 25 minutes per game and was the subject to some inexplicable benching during the medal rounds. When Wiggins did play, he was an absolute stud; getting in passing lanes, disrupting guys on the ball, and yes, dunking everything.
The part that is most impressive, however, is the fact that he shot 51.7 percent from three on nearly three attempts per game. Last year in Minnesota, he shot 31 percent on just one and a half attempts per game. In a bigger sample size and more attempts per game, he was a better shooter from three. With how athletic he is and how versatile his offensive game is already, adding a three point shot is just downright terrifying if you ask me.
Anthony Davis is obviously the next up and coming young superstar. Why not throw Wiggins in the mix with him? His numbers his rookie year were just about as pedestrian as Davis’ were plus Wiggins got international experience to help grow his game and get more game repetitions. He probably figures to be the lead guy with the Timberwolves this year and will have a better team around him, which will hopefully make things come even easier than they already do.
He should already be a lock to make an All-Defensive team next season with his suffocating defense. Shoot, if his offensive game continues to bloosom the way it is, it isn’t out of the question at all for him to be named to one of the league’s three All-NBA teams, even with how stacked the forward position already is. Based on his play last year and this summer, I’m expecting big things out of Andrew Wiggins.

This seems overly optimistic, but hey, you never know.

Quote:
There’s no question things have changed dramatically since the team announced his diagnosis in August, back when it quoted his doctors saying the cancer was very treatable and curable. Since then there have been changes to the way his body handled the chemotherapy (and maybe how much cancer they’ve found) that have made it life threatening. Everyone involved has gone radio silent because of the family’s request for privacy and federal patient-privacy laws, etc., but between the complete silence, the lack of people visiting as far as I can tell apart from his immediate family and very inner circle while he remains hospitalized here in Minneapolis and the things I’m hearing second-hand, well, none of it is good. I’ll just say this, and this is just my own opinion, if he pulls through this: I doubt very much he’s back this year, it’s probably unlikely he coaches again just because of the stress inherent doing both those jobs and I think there’s a pretty good chance he doesn’t return full time to either job. As far as the franchise goes, that will put them in a holding pattern for some time. I can’t see Glen Taylor allowing Milt Newton and Sam to make a major decision until they know more about Flip’s future and Glen decides who will run his team for the long term. I wouldn’t assume it’ll be Milt and Sam going forward, that’s just for the short term until things become clearer.

Apparently Zach looks incredible and is the best player so far. Sammich told KMart that they want Zach to win the starting job and KMart is now understanding.

not sure tryhard interim wannabe permanent coaching staff don't pull zach after like 3 bad defensive series tho in favour of the redoubtably robust wing defense of kevin martin

pretty sure there is no chance that zach is actually better than kmart at nba basketball right now

I don't think moving zach down on the depth chart if he's not the best sg on the team is going to hurt his development. My guess is it would force him to improve in all facets. I worry a little bit that his current mindset is more about being a star than winning.

I think starting Lavine is Sammich taking the pressure to win off himself. He's trying to make it obvious to potential employers that this season wasn't about winning in case we suck.

We got killed by the Thunder. It was like me and 15 other people there.
-KAT is so, so, so ****ing good! I was a doubter but holy **** he's good. Catch and shoot jumpers, iso jumpers, 3/3 on post moves. Defensively he tries to block everything and gives op offensive rebounds.
-Zach was pretty good. KMart was awesome and probably our best player
-Tyus sucks
-Andre Miller is done imo. He made a couple nice leaners and a nice pass but he couldn't stay anywhere near DJ Augustin at all. Like he just got torched 100% of the times down the court like it was me playing D in the NBA or something. He also went down holding his knee and it looked bad (they stopped the game) but he recovered and appeared to be fine.
-LoBro by far our best point guard offensively and defensively. He looked really good. For some reason him and Cameron Payne started jawing and then Brown just clowned him on like 4 straight possessions. I was ready to call Payne a bust but then he lit up Tyus in the 4th quarter. Tyus sucks.
-Bazz looked awful. Skinny Bazz couldn't muscle anybody on the block and was just throwing up airballs everywhere. Also he remains the worst defender of all time. He just has no idea.
-Adrian Payne remains the same; lots of terrible with the occassional brilliant play that nobody else could make
-Belly is great. He showed everything, range, passing, driving and scoring. He looks like a really good player.
-Rudez is a really good shooter with a lightning quick release. I don't think he or LoBro gets cut.
-Lavine and Ibaka: Lavine had a breakaway dunk and Ibaka caught him from behind and grabbed him just as he was taking off--dangerous play and it's preseason. They reviewed in for a flagrant but decided common foul. Two possessions later Lavine carved through the D and got to the rim where it was just him vs Ibaka. He tried to sling it on Serge so hard like Wig vs Gobert but unfortunately he got stone rejected.
-Bazz and Singler also got into it. Bazz was dunking in transition and Singler undercut him to foul and stop the dunk. Some how there was no whistle (Eric Dalen was reffing, he sucks) and Bazz airballed the dunk. Bazz didn't like it and they started shoving. They called a double foul with Bazz getting a tech.
-Kevin Durant is ridiculous. He has like 3 inches on Wiggins in addition to being a GOAT level shooter. He can just rise up and shoot over Andrew Wiggins!
-Gorgui is the same. Hitting impressive jumpers, a nice block here and there, traveling (not called, Eric Dalen reffing, he sucks) repeatedly, getting shoved around by Enes Kanter. He's decent but Towns already much better.

nice post JTM.

I'm getting excited about seeing Rubio play with Wiggins, Bjelly & KAT.

I hope you're right about keeping Rudez & Brown, but I doubt it because who else gets cut? I wouldnt mind seeing Miller or Prince or Tyus or Payne get cut, but all those guys are making guaranteed money. Brown isnt and Rudez isnt making much.
