After meeting with doctor in N.Y., there appears real chance Kevin Love could return within 5 to 6 weeks from broken hand, source tells Y!

Love said in a statement Thursday that he broke his right hand while doing knuckle push-ups the day before in a pre-practice workout.

Kevin Love’s injury will likely expose coach Adelman’s disdain for Derrick Williams
By Britt Robson | 10/18/12

I agree with this story, and the last part does not surprise me at all after watching the end of last season:

According to a team source, of all the players viewed negatively by Adelman, only one remains.

The place where Taylor and Kahn did not allow Adelman full sway was over Derrick Williams — who may, but likely won’t, be getting the majority of minutes at power forward while Love is out.

We hung onto him too long.

DWill

24 Minutes – (2-6 FG, 0-2 3PG, 1-2 FT)
5 Points
4 Personal Fouls
4 Turnovers
3 Rebounds
1 Assist
1 Block
1 Block Against (embarrassing - he had his eyes shut during the shot attempt)

He looks completely awful right now. The Bulls were leaving him wide open and he still couldnt do anything offensively. He doesnt rebound or defend or pass either.

PEK didnt play tonight and I still dont know why. We need him to play if we're going to compete with good teams while Love & Rubio are out. We'd be good with two out of those three. We might be an average team with Love & Rubio gone. We're not nearly as bad as last year without all three (AK, Roy, Bud, DC, Shved all are better than the bums from last year), but we're not a good team with the three best players on the team sitting out.

Pek banged his head in the last game and was held out tonight as a precaution.

I watched the 3Q and Steamer looked good defensively and Cunningham looked solid/active. That's about all I noticed. I see Schved was 0-6 from 3 and 2-11 overall in 23 minutes, lol.

This is still preseason, right? Who cares about whether pek played.

That's good to know about PEK.

Steamer doesnt really do much offensively, but he does shoot a high % because he doesnt take many bad shots.

Cunningham is pretty good and is obviously Adelman's pick as the 2nd best PF on this team.

The offense was listless without Shved in the game. At least he can break down a defense once in a while. I think he played better than his numbers suggest, and his shooting percentage will be decent in the long run.

The lion on the other hand.......

Because its fun to watch PEK play basketball, and its fun to watch the Wolves play well.

I really hope in a couple months I'm not digging through this thread just so I can say "lol cha."

Well, in a few months Rubio & Love should be back, so we shouldnt need much out of Shved at that point (assuming Roy is healthy still - thats a big if). Hopefully Shved plays well in the mean time. Based on what I've seen, I think he will be pretty good.

Also, my previous comment should be taken in the context of Rubio, Love & PEK all not playing in this game. Dont take it out of that context.

lol, I usually dont do that.

Shved should get some significant playing time now, especially if Ridnour keeps having back problems.

I just read this comment in a thread over at A Wolf Among Wolves:

pagingstanleyroberts October 20, 2012 at 12:40 pm

Yeah, I should’ve qualified this statement: their main facilitators with this group have to be Roy, Barea, and Shved off the dribble, AK47 on the move and closer to the hoop, and Pek in the post. I still think Williams will be able to create something for himself at some point, but who knows. The other guys have to move, screen, be prepared to shoot in their comfort spots, not turn the ball over, and pass........

http://www.awolfamongwolves.com/2012...old/#more-1214

Apparently I'm not alone in what I see with regards to Shved.

Memorial Day 2011 - I couldnt walk or straighten at the right hip for 5 weeks. I had a one year handicap parking pass. *brag alert* My recovery has been epic - really. See my H & F log for details if you're interested.

Martell Webster had a herniated disc. He had two surgeries and has not been the same player that he was before the surgeries. This type of thing is not uncommon - I'm concerned for Luke.

When you herniate a disc, the gel that fills the disc takes as long as 10 years to crystallize after the injury. The disc never actually heals and is never the same as before the injury. Its bad ****.

26 Bold Predictions for the NBA Season
Foolproof, lock-stock, no-doubt prognostications sure to happen (until they don't)
By Zach Lowe on October 23, 2012

Nikola Pekovic Will Put Up All-Star Numbers, Become a Borderline Household Name

He won't make the team, not with all the starry big men in the Western Conference, and he'll never be able to protect the rim at an All-Star level. He also won't shoot 56 percent with both Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio out with injuries. But Pekovic scored as efficiently, and as often, with Rubio on the bench last season as he did with Rubio on the court (the same was true of Love), and he figures to work long stretches as Minnesota's top offensive option to start the season. He averaged about 17 points and nine rebounds per game once he started getting heavy minutes last season, and he led the league in offensive rebounding rate. Pekovic looks to be in great shape, and he's going to put up huge numbers.

A possible good scenario that comes from the Love injury.

--Pek gets more post up plays where he takes guys to school (as opposed to floating around the lane, making layups off of other guys' penetration/assists).
--Pek gets 20 pts a night, most nights
--AK, Roy, Chase, put up double figure scoring per game
--Team does OK record-wise
--Kevin comes back realizing he doesn't have to score 30 per night.
--Team gels, plays brilliantly
--Ricky comes back and is a beast.
--Kevin still scores 30 per night, occasionally.
--Pek makes someone cry on the court.

also,

--DWill gets a start at the 4, goes off for 51/19 vs some random team, said random team trades for him immediately after the game.

yeah*

We have a soft early schedule, so that will help. I read something today where the guy who wrote it said Love's likely return would be after he misses 17 games. He went through the games & said worst case scenario we'd be 7-10 and we'd likely be about 9-8.

http://punchdrunkwolves.com/2012/10/...w-part-1-of-2/

* - yeah to your previous post - not the DW post I hope I'm wrong about DW. I dont think he's necessarily a complete lost cause yet, but he's heading in that direction.

Looks like the book makers think the Love injury is going to cost the Wolves 3 wins as well. The new o/u looks to be at 39.5. Still seems like a very good bet to go with the over.

The curse has me worried.

But seriously, over 39.5 seems like a lock, barring major injury to one of our other good players outside of Roy (who if he gets injured, that would surprise no one).
