It might not have been. When I went over to see what people at Canis were saying, their initial comments didnt seem like they knew about that either.

Some source said we might offer 2 years @ ~$9 mil/year. Sounds great imo - lets get him!

It could take a two-year, $18 million contract with a player option for a third year for the Wolves to sign Kirilenko.
I'd be happy to see him play for us. I guess we can afford him this season. However, that's pretty expensive for us next year, with Pek having to get paid? Plus, a player option for a 3rd year?!?

We have PEK's Bird rights. Taylor just has to be willing to sign the check. I imagine if B Lopez got a max deal, PEK will next year.

DW isnt going to play much this year if we get AK47. I think the SF depth is AK, Bud, then DW and the PF is Love, then I wouldnt be surprised if Cunningham gets more minutes than DW, then DW. Trade him before his value bottoms out imo. I dont think he's bad in the way Wes is, but I dont think he is very versatile or useful on this team.

Speaking of trade value bottoming out - if this is true, Wes plus a #1 for cap space - lol, nice #4 pick in the draft Kahn. A few years ago we got a similar deal from Philly so they could sign Brand - we got Carney & a #1 for cap space.

Dante has a pretty good midrange jumper and isn't a total ****up when he's not on reefer shooting BB guns out of his car

I still think we need an outside shooter and Meeks would fill in nicely. Brandon Rush would also be a nice addition. I hate to kill the buzz but 9 mill a year for a 30 yr old AK47 seems a little crazy considering were not a piece or 2 away from contending. I like his game but I'm not sure this would be a great move for the Tpups. I like Yugo? or JTs? idea of standing pat till next off season(if we don't pull off a trade for a star).

Wes for cap space, fine
Wes and a #1 for cap space, not fine

Wes is a negative asset. Tough to stomach, but it's not a borderline case where a player has value but too big of a contract, or has potential but is sucking in his current environment. Wes' ceiling is not even a good starter at this point but a serviceable rotation guy. That's the ceiling imo. Not that he will be a rotation guy, but that he will be a good one. I think it's much more likely he sticks around in the league not actually helping his teams much given what they'll sign him for.

Deal is supposedly agreed, but not official yet:

Hornets acquire: Robin Lopez (from Suns, via sign-and-trade), Hakim Warrick (from Suns)

Suns acquire: Wesley Johnson (from Timberwolves), First-round pick (from Timberwolves), Brad Miller (from Hornets)

Timberwolves acquire: Jerome Dyson (from Hornets), Two second-round picks (from Hornets)

3rd year player option isn't amazing, but Kirilenko I don't think is really all that old. It's likely imo that his next deal will be the regrettable one, not this one.

That being said, for that kind of $$ isn't it Iggy territory? I think I'd rather have him but tbh I wouldn't be completely surprised if someone smart compared their value and said Kirilenko is more valuable.

According to that tweet the second year would be the player option, making it a two-year deal.

Oh wow....I'm not paying attention (busy at work but excited about bball lol). Sign me up for some Kirilennnnnnnnnnnnnko!

I vaguely remember Utah fans being frustrated with him being inconsistent or something. I'm going to guess it was either earlier in his career or had to mainly do with scoring. He is a guy (like Marion maybe) who kind of supplies value in every aspect of the game. And the Wolves need someone like that (every team does) to shore up defense, offense, hustle and everything else game-to-game.

Yeah, I just saw another thing where it said one year deal with a second year player option. That's a bit better for us than the 3 year thing which is what all the initial reports were saying Yugo, so no biggie; I read the tweet the same way you did because of the previous reports..

agree with Yugo here. Wes had negative value. If we could have got a better deal from someone to take him we would have.

I'd rather have Iggy, but he does make ~14.5 mil and is not a lot better than AK, only a little imo.

This is the best Wolves off season since we got PEK & Love, and the big difference here is we will see immediate dividends from this bunch this season. Considering the crap we unloaded and what we replaced the crap with, this is better than when we got Cassell & Spree imo.

I'm starting to like it. Seems like a really deep team, assuming we get something out of Roy and AK47. I mean we were going to make playoffs last year with the junk we had then, so this team should do much better. Is Rubio going to be ready to go to start the season? (he is the key to success imo)

^^^ season is in oct no?, rubio prob back december or so... i think its horrible to make him rush, this is going to be a full season so missing 20games or so is better than coming back too soon and risk getting re-injured

rubio gona be the key to minny success in not just games won but attracting fans... i know damn well i wouldnt be a minny fan without him

but yea minny made alot of gr8 moves man, defense looked like it has improved and got rid of dead weight... still its mostly role players but considering the fact that pek & rubio has potentially to get alot better and prob top 10 at their position with love alrdy being a superstar i mean the media will soon be saying minny has a big 3

p.s no more husky jerseys in 2012 plz, felt like i was watching college bball
