I thought kugler was transferring to play for his dad, not sure if Dawson was going with him. So sick of every year the OL needs a true frosh to step in. These guys aren't Orlando pace.

O-Line recruiting has been a disaster since RR's last year. Hoke had that massive haul on paper with LTT, Bosch, Dawson, and Kugler and none of them worked out. Newsome's injury was just the icing on the cake

O-Line crootin is also a mixed bag, looking back on the starters this year most of their rankings were fairly lower than the avg Line recruits Jim is bringing in now it would seem.

Or at least compared to his avg recruit ranking.

Seems like the popular opinion is Oline recruiting is the highest variance of any position, havent been super into CROOTIN that long so might be a bit off.

I think OL recruiting is hit and miss, just don't know how kids who are just bigger and stronger than their opponents in high school will react when they face guys who hit back. You have to take like 4-5 a year just for the bodies and odds of several panning out whether they are 3* or 5*. If one class are Sr. and you have 15-20 OL bodies to choose from, there should be no way you can't put an above average OL on a field. Add injuries and attrition, you need a lot of players.

We probably have to wait till 2019-2020 for a dominating OL, should be same next year and above average in 2018. fvcking stupid.

2014 - JBB, Mason Cole will be Sr next year
2015 - Runyan, Newsom, Ulizio, Jr but Newsome prob RS.
2016 - Spelies, Breadeson, Onwenu Soph

Where the fvck are we getting a starting OL unit from??? Having a true frosh again probably.

That OL haul might be the biggest unit flop in recruiting for any team.

Not too bothered by this year. Lost 3 games by 2 points.

Our oline vs Bama/Wash/Clem would have been an unmitigated disaster. We may have had to give up <10 to any of those three to win.

The depressing thing is that even if we 'CROOT offensive linemen, even the good ones take 2-3 years to be playable. This problem isn't going away.

Yep. I would love for Cesar Ruiz to be as ready as some people claim. Always doubtful.

I feel like it's more likely one or more of the '15 or '16 guys makes a big leap than a freshman comes in ready to contribute positively.

apparently Ruiz is showing out at the all star game, which probably means he's fully ready to jump in and get bitched by Tyquan Lewis and Dremont Jones next year

monster DL are just no match for freshman OL, don't care how good they are

DJ Fluker, Cam Robinson and Jonah Williams say hello

And some others from other schools

Jonah is actually better than Cam right now, which is sick

And somehow the guards are pathetic, go figure

Happy new year, just over three months to go until the spring game.

The one thing I want to see more than anything else is whether any of the OL we have on the roster are going to develop. The biggest disappointment with the current line is that despite having three 5th year seniors they still got pushed around. None of them were physically dominant against above-average competition and they got overpowered way too easy. They didn't make up for it with above-average athleticism or superlative technique, either.

QB is another one, of course. Speight looked like he could end up being a very, very good QB through the middle of the season, but he obv wasn't the same after getting hurt. I still wonder if he got hurt on the play he went down awkwardly when Isaac scored against Iowa, whether it may be a wrist in addition to the shoulder. Harbaugh being all about merit I could see Peters being the starter come fall if he's good enough. Dunno if O'Korn and Malzone will stick around.

Happy to see Don Brown get extended. He's a very good coach and there wasn't much to be unhappy about with his performance - you can't blame missed tackles or great throws on him. Looking forward to seeing if there is a Year 2 leap as the D gets even more fluent in his system.

For all people grumble about some of Harbaugh's in-game decisions, he's still 110% the best leader for this program and is worth every penny he's getting paid. He still needs to beat tOSU and win the B1G, but with the way recruiting is going and the excellent assistants he has on hand, it's impossible not to feel good about the future.

How can we get to him on timeout usage? He seems insane enough to actually read his mail, maybe we bombard him?

Could try going to a coaches' clinic and present the math to him. He's a pretty smart guy and has shown a willingness to adapt (hiring Don Brown because he realized we need to stop the spread) so who knows? It might just work

To get this far and be that bad at TO usage and 4th down decision making, one needs to seriously question just how smart this guy is. I guarantee he knows about the math. Every coach does. He simply isn't intelligent enough to realize how important it is (just like most coaches).

Although I think what I just said is a pretty facile explanation. We certainly know Harbaugh is very football smart in many areas. He's just massively ******ed in a few areas. I just think that if he can get this far without plugging those leaks, it's a pretty large leap to assume/hope anything will ever change in that regard. Obviously I hope I'm wrong, but man, it's been so long since I've been wrong about anything.

You have a valid point on 4th down, but Harbaugh's TO usage is straight up embarrassing.

Harbaugh is fine on 4th down and generally understands end-of-half strategy (value of going 2 for 1, etc), the first FG in the orange bowl was a disappointing outlier for him

TO usage in end of game scenario is really his only major weak point from game theory POV
