Terrible example. You picked perhaps the only program that can win it all without a good QB. We are not Alabama. In fact it's worse than that. Not only are we not them, but chances are to win it all we'd have to face them. You can't beat the Alabama's of the world with a poor man's Navarre. It really is that simple. O'korn was our best shot because he supposedly has enough mobility to keep an elite defense honest.

None of this is that depressing btw. A season like Michigan State had last year is still in the cards. I'll take that. Admittedly tho, with O'korn I would've been a bit more greedy.

Come on guys. I love being deluded with the best of em, but even I can't pretend we actually have a chance to win it all with Speight. Anyone who thinks Speight beating out O'korn for the job is good news is more deluded than me talking big ten championship after Forcier destroyed ND.

Don't know about you guys but I'll take ILP > JIM all day

Not like minimizing turnovers matters with the GOAT defense

who else is gonna be there for the RAINBOW WARRIORS? generally idgaf about seats, but two in section 23, row 60 fell into my lap. been a while since I watched the whole pregame, so I guess we're probably gonna need to get in earlier to catch them touching the banner. Michigan Football: HARBAUGH

Let's not be ******ed. The idea is very simple. O'korn not being good enough to beat out Speight is not good news for us. And with that reality, I think we need to temper expectations. For one, beating Ohio State is no longer a realistic possibility. We can still win 11 games tho. Everything I'm saying here falls into the super obvious category for any rational uninebriated life form in the universe.

ILP forgetting the JIMMAY factor. This guy has made QBs from nothing really. We have one of the top 5 QB coaches in the world on our hands.

Miss ya by a week. Got a wedding 4 hours away but I will be drunk in a casino at game time. If anyone is doing the Colorado or Wisconsin game, let me know

No. The conclusion to be drawn here is JOK was not as good as we thought he was, and that's not good news for us. In the near future when Harbaugh truly has the QB situation stacked then your logic will hold.

Harbaugh might be the best coach in the world (altho his 4th down decision making ranges from god awful to mediocre) but he is not god. He can't prevent Speight from getting destroyed by an elite defense. But hey who knows, maybe we won't play an elite defense.

I'll share a candid thought I am having this season, for the first time ever. Is anyone else sort of feeling the moral tug that maybe with the science that we have right now, that just maybe watching football isn't something we should be doing? Just because of how concrete the science is now about the damage being done to these kids brains?

I would feel better if somehow they all had to sign a waiver acknowledging that playing is very likely to destroy their mental well being, their life. Like as long as they're ok with that I have to be ok with it, it's their life.

Maybe I'll snap out of it when the season starts, and getting completely hyped again. But this is the first time I've actively debating with myself about my moral obligation to this topic. Gonna post this in the college football thread too. Very interested to hear responses.

Who's to say JOK wouldn't get destroyed by an elite defense? JOK has turnover problems, an elite defense will only make that worse. I haven't seen either one really play so IDK who I would rather have but if WS doesn't make big mistakes I probably would rather punt and let the defense try and get the ball back then JOK throwing a pick and the defense defending from their 30 yard line.

I don't think the W/L will change much with either QB, I would say 1 game, but we don't have a QB ready to play that can be very successful vs an elite defense.

They do sign a waiver, it's called a LOI. Everyone knows now the dangers of football and people are still busting their @ss to play.

Football is barbaric just like slavery is barbaric. As society gradually gets more civilized we should expect it at some point to no longer exist. All we can do right now is the same thing those plantation owners did with their conscripted harems. Enjoy the good times while they last.

Can't say I disagree with anything here. My point is, with JOK's mobility factor maybe we had a shot at elite defenses. He needed JOK to be the guy because a QB that can move the chains with his feet + pass efficiently is the type of QB we need to succeed in the playoffs vs the big boys. But as it apparently turns out JOK isn't passing well enough to beat out lead foot Speight. So yeah, I wanted the QB that might get destroyed over the QB that certainly will.
