Today's news:

Info on all the Packer's UFDAs from Packersnews.

Mason Crosby has been signed to a 5-yr deal worth $14.75 million with $3 million guaranteed. This makes him one of the top paid kickers in the NFL. Um... wtf??? I'm happy to see him signed, but he's just a good kicker. We can't find money for C Jenkins or J Jones and drop this kind of bling on Crosby?

Speaking of Jones, A-Rod wants him around. From ESPN Radio:
Quote:
"James is extremely talented and he's a guy that I think we need to bring back without a doubt," Rodgers said. "He should be priority No. 1 and I mean that with all my heart. He really should be priority No. 1. We don't win the Super Bowl without him and we need him."
Now, any QB is always going to want to keep good receivers around. I doubt James will be kept (even though I am more of a fan than most), but maybe Rodgers opinion carries some sway.

Yeah, this team is just so much fun.

Barnett leaving is no shock really. I too remain pretty doubtful about James Jones, but I really want him back, he's a solid receiver. As long as he doesn't drop any more sure TDs at least.

^^^ I've heard that speculation, but nothing more than speculation.

$3m/yr probably isn't the reason why they aren't signing those guys
Agreed that this team is better w/ Jones even though he kinda killed them last year.
I'm sure they'll figure out the WR situation - Rodgers seems very stoked about Kobb and I think the org is high on him.

Crosby's deal isn't bad at all. I really think he's going to develop into an elite kicker. He had so many "good" misses last year...most notably the 56 yarder off the post vs. the Skins. Maybe I'm just an apologist but I like Crosby a lot.

Also, has there been any mention at all of Sitton getting an extension? Seems like such a ldo move for both sides, but I haven't seen any reports of Ted ever reaching out to him.

Queens losing Rice is good news obv

Meh - I'm happy we resigned Crosby, but the deal seems rich. He's not a top-10 kicked in the NFL, imo. So, it seems they overpaid a bit. But, we will see. You can be a Crosby apologist while I'll be a JJones fanboy.

Haven't heard **** on Sitton. They can't officially announce deals until Friday, so it may be done and just not yet leaked.

Queens losing Rice is good, but both Purple and da Bears would like to get Jones. I'd rather keep him than see him elsewhere in the division. He's prone to the big drop, but he's still better than almost every other receiver in the division outside Jennings (ldo), especially with Rice gone.

I feel like Jones is going to get good money somewhere, since the Skins have signed basically every team's possible backup plan to Rice/Holmes. I like Jones, but he seems like such a waste with all of the weapons on offense. Ted wouldn't draft Cobb to be the #5 WR.

Free agency is such a boring time. I wish Ted was more fun.

I don't know how effective Cobb will be with the lockout. Good potential, but I'm expecting little this year. I guess he's #4 in the 4-wide sets. Of course, Finley back is huge and offsets some loss, but injury to anyone leaves us where?

Free agents... pfft! That's for the Vikings.

Seems Sitton may be released as well, and possibly throwing in Lang to play Guard...

yeah I'm kind of a Crosby apologist, even though like all his misses come at the worst times. having a good FG kicker is a pretty big commodity considering what's been happening at that position lately!

Sitton got a shot last year when Colledge move over to fill in at LT. Sitton sucked big time and reading the Milwaukee paper, the writers there have been saying he's on the chopping block for a long time since last year.

Journal-Sentinel reporting Colledge is gone but that was pretty much expected. Colledge played in all 80 games of his 5 year career. His agent (take what he says with a grain of salt for sure) was quoted as saying Colledge is probably going to Arizona and will get a good payday. His agent said there's no chance he's going back to Green Bay. Colledge is journeyman type player in my view. He can be bull rushed effectively at times. He's supposedly better as a pass protector than a run blocker.

Signing of Crosby was ok. MM knows what he's got with Crosby and doesn't want a kicker "adventure" like he had at punter after he cut Jon Ryan.

Nothing official here, but rumors are:

D Colledge to Arizona Cardinals
C Jenkins to Washington Redskins
J Jones to the Purple Dark Side

Seems Minnesota can't go one year without picking up a Packer FA.

Colledge is no surprise. Jenkins is also not a surprise, but I'm worried about who fills the position. And, as Jones fan boy, this is my worst-cast scenario.

More rumors:

Justin Harrell to be released
Brady Poppinga to be released
UPDATE: Cullen Jenkins is NOT going to Washington... still unsigned

You must be thinking of the wrong person cause Sitton played RG all year and is easily the best lineman on the team.

EDIT: I dont remember Spitz playing much if at all but he has been on the chopping block since last year. Probably him. Also Lang sucks and Ted knows it, he better not get any starts this year.

I like the Crosby signing. He might already be a top ten kicker, and he still has an upside. Plus, there is nothing more miserable than having a ****ty kicker.

yeah i'd say he's maybe even a top 5 kicker imo (though the stats don't show it)

he seems due for a monster kicking season

Optimists ITT

I hope Crosby does well and would rather have him than an unknown, but he is not a clear Top 5 and a questionable Top 10.

Pretty sure you're confusing Sitton with Spitz. Sitton is a top 3 guard in the NFL, Spitz is an AIDSy backup. Spitz is a free agent but he obv won't be brought back.

Oh and Cullen not going to the Skins could be a glimmer of hope. The Skins would have obv been the highest bidder so maybe Ted will reach out to him

They were saying on the radio earlier that he is below league avg. for FG%. Even taking out his long attempts.

FWIW, I take him over an unknown. That is what they were saying on the radio as well.

God I think crosby is awful. Don't you remember that fail run he went on... I still can't think about it everytime he kicks. 30 yarders and I have to hold my breath.
