So I saw that Banhammer picked up Brian Wilson. I remember there being a discussion about how to handle players with large contracts who get dumped mid-season and I had this recorded in my notes as an eventual addition to the constitution:

Quote:
“The Nathan Rule” – If an MLB level player is cut mid-season and his salary exceeds $4, and the owner opts to keep that player beyond the current season, the player’s salary will revert to either his original salary prior to being cut or remain at the winning waiver wire bid – whichever is greater. Yearly salary bumps still apply.
Now, I don't think we ever put it to an official vote, since it got interrupted by Jokes going MIA, but a discussion did go on record here, here, and here. Also, I had forgotten about that proposed rule and am not sure what other big contracts have been dumped to waivers this season.

Thoughts?

I'm happy to go with whatever people think, although obviously I picked him up under the assumption I could keep him cheaply. He's clearly an easy drop at $60 or whatever given that he'll still be injured when it's time to make cuts.

I'm pretty sure that I picked up people who were dropped during last season, and this rule wasn't applied though. I think Rafael Soriano was an example. The only other thing I would say is that the link you posted was to a question where I asked if I could resign my own players if I cut them. I think that's significantly different to signing someone else's cut players.

Right, which is why I don't think it's enforceable, since it's not really on the books and hasn't been observed anyway. I just wanted to re-start the conversation so we can get that made an official rule at some point, one way or another.

And those links might not be exactly right, was just pointing people in the general direction where it got talked about.

Soria was another example from this year. and Clippard.

there's lots of them really. and it'd be kind of a bitch to keep track of.

not sure what to do really. with only 4 DL spots it often doesnt make sense to hold on to those players for teams but they'd definitely go for more if they were released in the offseason.

kinda just think we can let it be. not sure its a problem that some teams can take shots at players like that for cheap. open to alternatives if people are bothered by it though.

I agree with this, except I am not open to alternatives.

Yeah, I agree with this. I forgot to even track that stuff this year and like I said, it's not actually on the books as a rule right now, so it's no biggie. Any changes would have to officially come next season. Sorry Banhammer, I should have put more context behind why I brought this up now, you're fine though.

I think the opportunist mentality is OK as a reason to not change things. I actually held onto Wilson as long as I could because I knew someone would potentially get a good value on him next season, but I really needed the DL spot. On the other hand, we only have so many DL slots, so it's not like a real team where if you sign a player for multi-years and he has TJ you don't have to worry about wasting space on your 40-man roster. I'd like to hear what others think, tbh.

Do you mean you'd like to see a new rule instituted? I didn't quite understand.

Lucroy (hand) is expected to miss four-to-six weeks, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Spin:
Interestingly enough, Lucroy suffered the injury during an accident in his hotel room when he was reaching for a sock under the bed and his wife bumped a suitcase that fell on his right hand. The means by which Lucroy suffered the injury will likely raise a few eyebrows, but it's a tough break for the Brewers and for fantasy owners as Lucroy has been a key cog in the Milwaukee offense thus far. Martin Maldonado will handle the bulk of the catching initially in Lucroy's absence, as George Kottaras is currently battling a sore hamstring.
