I am a semi-professional poker player that has recently started taking online tournaments much more seriously. Unlike many here, I actually got my start playing live and then made the transition to online play over the last few years. I've been very successful and profitable playing both live and online.
I have a MBA that has been a complete waste up to this point in my life (except for a few small personal business ventures). I am going to make poker my business for a few years and give it a "fair shake". I have read nearly every poker book out there - I am a particular fan of Harrington & the Poker Tournament Formula books (for MTTs). I have attended Joe Navarro's seminar on poker tells.
I often get asked about my “style” of play. And the answer I always give is that I don’t have a “style” of play – I adapt to the players at my table and play a “style” that best works for the type of players I am sitting with. I can sit back and be very patient, and I can kick it into overdrive. I truly believe my ability to shift gears is my greatest strength.
Bottom line is that I am educated, skilled, confident and hungry - a backer's dream-come-true.
I have over $80k in live tournament cashes in larger buy-in events (documented on cardplayer.com) while playing very limited schedule. I have about another $40k in live cashes from smaller buy-in events that were not tracked by any website (mostly local tournaments).
I have had pretty good online success since taking it more seriously over the last year playing mostly medium stake tournaments. I have a 286% ROI on cakepoker playing MTTs with nearly $18k in profit. Over the last month I took down a $77 buy-in tournament on Stars for $5k, and I won $55 1R+1A on FTP for over $6300.
I am friends with # of very successful professional poker players that I have had the privilege of discussing hands and poker ideas with over the last few years. These include Dean Hamrick (MSUsFinest), Tony Garagano (DrunkPPlaya), Justin Scott (bracelet winner), Jamin Stokes, & Sam Oberlin (wsop circuit main event winner Chicago).
So, many of you are probably thinking "So why do you need a backer?”. Well, while I am very confident in my ability to win playing poker, I still have tilt issues online where I go on massive tilt sessions playing cash games (online), and these spew sessions have hurt my bankroll tremendously. I'm also a sports betting degenerate who managed to lose a big chunk of my bankroll betting on basketball and recently baseball. I am upfront and honest about my issues & problems - I know acknowledging them is the first step in overcoming them, but I am still working on that. I’ve also had a couple of business ventures flop recently and I lost a pretty good chunk of $ in the most recent market collapse.
Finally, variance is a bitch, especially in big-field MTTs, so using a backer will hopefully allow me to weather my recent spew-tilt issues in my quest for a huge online or live score.
I am looking for a backer for # of events at this year’s WSOP, and possibly some of the Venetian Big Stack / Caesar’s MegaStack tournaments that fall during that time period. I propose a 45% (me) / 55% (you) + stake-back (make-up). I would also request a 50%-50% split on any final table.
I am also open to playing other live events or online events beyond the WSOP (I plan on being in Vegas from late May until end of series if I secure a backer). I live close to Chicago & Detroit, and those casinos often offer bigger tournaments such as the Heartland Poker Tour. I’m also willing to travel to play in big-field / big buy-in events beyond the WSOP. I'm also open for backing in bigger buy-in online events ($200+).
I am willing to sign a contract that outlines all terms of the deal.
Finally, I want to apologize for my lack of posts. I've lurked and read threads at 2+2 for YEARS, but my quest for a backer has finally lead me to post. I am trustworthy, and I can provide references from people I know in the poker community if needed.
