$3.30 plus $2.40 per mile plus $30/hr when you're going about 10mph or less.

So about $16 for 5 miles plus tip plus red light and congestion time.

5 miles from McCarran just means it could be 2 miles to Venetian, or 8 miles.

And when you call for a taxi pickup, depending where you are, it could be 10 minutes or 60 minutes before a car arrives. And sometimes longer, I'm told, if you try to get one at the wrong time or in the wrong neighborhood.

For the car thing, do you have any affiliations? I know as an USAA member, I was able to rent cars from one of the larger companies with no extra surcharge, for being under 25. Worth checking out for other companies, Maybee AAA? etc?

Ok so going to stay in vegas from the 30th of may to the 6th of june, few questions.

1) Places to stay.

Looking at the MGM, seems like its a good deal, especially after reading the las vegas hotel reveiw thread. Any cool deals going on with this? Anywhere else recomendable?

2) Games to play

Im primarily looking for good 2/5 and 5/10 games. Where can i find these? What places are normally going/better to play at? Any experience is cool.

3) Nightlife

What places are usually good to go to at night? Where is happening, etc etc.

Any other advice would be cool too!

yeah, MGM has 2/5 on the weekends and they have a fun bar there called centrifuge

also, i'll second johnbeans suggestion for diablo's. great food while it's a restaurant, then a good time when it turns into a party. they usually have live music too.

I'm looking at going for a couple of weeks in mid june. Want to play about $6k worth of tournys (3 wsops penciled in) and have 5-10k for cash games. I'm coming from the UK and if I remember rightly the most I can take with me in cash is 10k (not that i'd really want to take that much on me anyway). Any info on the easiest/safest way to do this would be great.

Also, I'd like to stay somewhere within walking distance of the rio, wheres the nicest/best value for money?

I have read about a Cirque du Soleil offer here somewhere but can't find it anymore. It was along the lines of buy one ticket and get the second for $25. Does anyone have information about this or other Cirque promos?

About the pools in Vegas. Do you have to be staying at the hotel to use the pool there, or can you rock up and use one of the good pools if you are staying somewhere else?

generally you have to be staying at the hotel and have a room key. i think if you stay at bill's you can show your key to get into the flamingo pools. also, you can just pay to get into the pool at the stratosphere and maybe a couple others.

maybe try befriending some people at a bar or something and buy them a drink if they get you into the pool?

Thanks. That actually crossed my mind but so did owning some degens old chain that he did not have much luck with lol. It won't hurt to look though. I won't have a car either. Are there any near the strip that you know of or should I plan on having to take a cab?

there's one down when you just about get to fremont.
and for some reason i feel like there is one on the east side of the strip between MGM and Paris in that little shopping area but i also feel like there's not.

Does anyone have a reservation at the Rio for the 1st weekend, May 30,31, & June 1? Or knows how I can go about get reservations for 5/30-6/11? I really don't want to have to switch hotels.
