Im thinking about booking a room at Rio so when I bust out, I'll have a somewhat shorter walk back to my room. It kind of depends on what kind of discount I'll get for staying at Rio as it would be about $400 more than the Gold Coast.

But a cheap room is enticing as all I'll be doing this trip is eating, sleeping, and playing poker although I am thinking about driving an exotic at the raceway during this trip so the savings by staying at Gold Coast would come in handy.

Vegas is a great place for car rentals. Really cheap rates even with the ridiculous tax rates factored in.

I've been from Alabama to California and back twice in a car. Road trips are fun. You could certainly drive to Vegas too.

I thought the volatility of airfare was bad but hotel room prices are just as bad. I checked on prices twice in a day and what was in the sevens in the morning was in the nines in the afternoon.

Needing a car, even if you are going to be there for more than five days, depends on what you are going to be doing.

I'm going to be there for six days in June and a car would be a waste because I am going to be playing poker for about five of those days at the Rio.

i've driven to new orleans (from IL) as well. that was just a quick half day.

and it's only the drive back that really sucks. after a week in vegas it was tough to keep my eyes open.
