I would imagine because when you do it every day it feels like a job instead of a relaxing way to focus on things other than your life. Even when it's for lots of money.
As I've got older, I've come to realize that money doesn't make you happy, as cliché as that sounds. It's definitely not something I realized when I wasn't making money though. Like most average people, I just worked hard to carve out my niche along the way.
It seems to me that Doug specifically is very obsessive about things. He claimed it's now Counter Strike and good for him. He has made enough money in poker then transitioning to content, to live comfortably and do what he wants, which apparently is spending a lot of time playing this game. He likes to make content and is at times funny and sometimes he tries to hard. He reminds of a comic honing a routine, he's just the Poker trolling guy for people who still aspire to play with the best players some day.
I just don't see how either of their choices are that weird. Poker became their job and they realized they really didn't like that job. Maybe the process of becoming the best was the thing they enjoyed, or it was an ego thing when they were young, etc.
With all that said, I really enjoyed that vlog with Doug and got a lot out of it. Poker is sort of becoming like a sport where greats will come and go and some may stick longer than others.
I've just realized this was much longer than was necessary. Stream of consciousness or whatever when I should be focusing on homework.
