Have not been to either of those but I went to Las Vegas Donut House a few nights ago. It was pretty decent. Raised donuts were far superior to the cake donuts.

I don't think I've done Ramen for a meal outside of the styrofoam cup variety, but this stuff was tasty. They have 3 types of broth (Miso, then two other that were basically based on soy sauce or just salt), then different ingredients, mostly charsou pork, veggies/mushrooms, seaweed, and egg. (They did have a corn & butter variety that my friend said was very good.)

I got Spicy Miso Ramen with "Killer Spicy" Meat - basically ground pork with peppers. Very nice and spicy, great flavor - ate every bite and did all but slurp the broth. Will definitely be back. Ramen runs $8-$12 or so.

Service was very good too. Waitress was very friendly. There was a line of folks ahead of us when we arrived but the tables turned quickly and the wait wasn't bad.

Lastly, they had a picture on the wall for a Japanese Whiskey served in a large glass mug over ice. I really wanted someone to try it but no one took it up. TR please if one of you do.
Sorry to repeat myself, but I've taken my parents and inlaws each to this place in the last couple of weeks and all of them have loved it. I think I've perfected my order: Spicy Miso Ramen + Killer Spicy Meat + Corn + Extra Egg. Just delicious, wanted to give one more shout out. One of my favorite things I've found in LV since moving here.

2. Also, we've enjoyed Kuma Snow Cream on the way home the last two times as well (http://www.yelp.com/biz/kuma-snow-cream-las-vegas). The honeydew and mango flavors were both pretty tasty (honeydew particularly refreshing). The concept seems to be similar to the "shave ice" concept you see in Hawaii, but shaving ice cream instead of ice. Makes for a very fluffy ice cream, almost like eating snow (at least at first, it does melt together pretty fast). I was surprised to see just 3.5 stars on Yelp as my family has all thought it was pretty good. It does seem like the there have been mostly 4-5 stars in the last 3 months or so compared to some 2-3s earlier on, maybe they got a different recipe or some such.

3. Went back to Rolling Smoke last weekend to try the Outlaw Burger. Damn, that was impressive. Absolutely deserves the hype and is one that should be included in Best of LV Burger discussions. It's kind of different in that it seems like loosely ground brisket that makes up the patty rather than regular ground beef. It gives it a ton of flavor. The thing is gigantic as well, as in "how am I going to take a bite of this/no way I can eat all of this" when it came out. Unfortunately for my waistline, I finished every bite. With a side of homemade potato chips and a sweet tea it came to about $15 and was well, well worth it.

I've been trying to find an excuse to go across the street to Silver Sevens (aka Terrible's), and I think I've finally found one:

I think that's the first time I've ever seen either pastrami or peanut butter as a topping option for a burger.

Peanut butter and bacon is surprisingly very good on a burger

If I'm remembering correctly The Hat in Los Angeles also has a pastrami cheeseburger.

Mini trip report time.

Walked over to Silver Sevens aka Terrible's an hour or so ago to order the burger. The cafe was like 85% full. Absolutely no one in the buffet area. After looking at the buffet reviews on Yelp, this does not surprise me. Was getting ready to order the burger, then I saw a biscuits & gravy item on the menu that wasn't on the online menu, and well... the rest is biscuits & gravy history:

That was like $9.45 or something with tax. Left $15 because LOL <$10 meals, I love Las Vegas! Four biscuits in there. The gravy tasted quite good on the home fries as well. Yeah, that's an extra side of bacon. 5 side pieces, too! That's how I roll.

I also roll to the tune of hitting the $5 craps table on the way out. After my first two rolls were 2 and then 3, I upped the bet to $10. Gotta pay for those biscuits and gravy somehow! If Martingaleing the $5 craps table is what it's gonna take, that's what it's gonna take. Went on a mini heater and hit 3 come out rolls in a row at one point! Walking out with a sweet $41 win was like getting extra gravy on the biscuits!

In a buffet I expect scrambled egg to look past its best and would usually get an omelette or something I can see is fresh.

In a cafe, no way should any chef be allowing scrambled egg to leave the kitchen looking like ^^ THAT.

Bacon looks right tho

I don't know how they look to Simon, but the eggs look overcooked to me.

There's a burger joint up the street from me and I get my burger with a fried egg and bacon. Thanks to this thread the next time I do, I'm coming home and putting peanut butter on the buns.

Waaaaay overcooked and dry as a bone. Like they just got nuked in a microwave and then broken up as an afterthought.

I asked for the eggs to be scrambled hard, so we can blame that on me, not them.

Just had Lawry's for lunch. $10 got me a large prime rib carved fresh sandwich with dipping sauce and a variety of sides (macaroni salad, cranberry sauce, etc etc), plus a bowl of delicious prime rib chili, plus house made potato chips. Pretty sick value.

That's amazing.
Is that deal always in play for lunch?

Yes. The sandwich rotates daily.

http://www.lawrysonline.com/lawrys-p...gas/menu/lunch

Not listed on their website, but each day a different one of the sandwiches is part of the $10 special along with choice of soup (today it was either chili or tomato basil).

Tried the Italian beef place...we really liked it, but haven't been to Chicago, so don't know how authentic it is. I had it with no cheese, spicy jardinere, and dipped. Messy (of course) but very good, will have again.

Also had Bacchanal on Sunday night. Didn't get the text and after 2.5 hrs, the host let us in. Tough to make a comparison, because I'll get a buffet in Vegas about once a year, but I thought it was good and overpriced by like 10 bucks.

Finally, got dinner at Mon Ami Gabi and thought the service was great. We'd played golf and were still feeling the effects of Bacchanal from the night before, so we shared a couple of appetizers and sides (duck, scallops, green beans) and my wife had a salad while I had the oyster/potato chowder. With a bottle of wine, $122 felt like a cheap date in Vegas

ETA/OT: Played Asia Poker for the first time. Pretty fun. Pretty happy it's not available anywhere near where I am AFAIK.

You did Al's right. That's a great order and the place is legit so for better or worse you got a legit sample of the food.

Just are at 1900. Soup dumplings and pork fried noodles. Service was nonexistent despite being pretty slow. Soup dumplings best I've had in town. Not near NYC good tho. Will come back but not amazed.

how much are you supposed to tip for buffets? and when/to whom? i thought a few bucks would be ok since they're just getting you one drink and taking a couple plates away, but then i saw a sign that said 18% added for parties of 6+ and was mightily confused.

At the risk of breaking out from the tipping containment thread... and with a caveat that I'm neither from the US or a regular @ Vegas buffets:

Live service station: $1 seems to be appreciated, and on observation it seems to be given by about 30-40% of customers. For most buffets, this is pretty much going to be the omelette station, but for schmancy places, there could be a whole host of live stations where someone is preparing food real-time to your specification.

Server: I only seem to ever eat breakfast buffets (usually solo)so I have no idea what happens for lunch or dinner. If I order one drink, it comes at some point, I'm in and out in 20 minutes and that's it, I'll leave a couple of dollars. Maybe if there's two of us, $3 and 3 of us, $5.

If the server is polite/friendly/I make multiple drink orders/dirty plates are removed before I get back with a 2nd plateful... would prolly just leave $5 solo, going up to say $10 for 3 of us.

In some buffets where you can skip the line and eat solo at the bar, I'm more likely to look after the bar staff better. The service is usually instant, drinks auto-topped up for you, usually fun to chat to if they aren't too busy.

I tip 10-12% for buffets unless I order booze which takes it up since that's actual service

What Clark does is right in line with what I've seen. And a $1 to the person manning a live station is pretty standard, too.

So I had the aria buffet last night, thought it was pretty good. I had a buy one get one free coupon I probably wouldn't pat $35 a person though. Just sucks eating a buffet without bananas im only in untilThursday can someone hook a brother up!
