Rollin' Smoke is a hole in the wall from the outside, for sure - took us 20 minutes driving in circles in the dark last night before we found the entrance on 3185 S Highland Drive queezed in between "Diamond Caberet" and Kiesub Electronics' unimpressive corporate headquarters - but certainly not from the inside.
Polished industrial stainless steel tabletops, "upside down" artful stained wood wainscoting, various sculptured, painted and a single actual stuffed pig and wall wide naive style Vegas murals makes for an interesting interior.
We were greeted by chef Trey Holland, who is VERY serious about his BBQ, and insisted on hearing our reviews of how his cooking measures up to out local Hells Kitchen NYC top-notched Daisy May BBQ. Far from being an accomplished BBQ connoisseur, let me just say - what we were served at Rollin Smoke blew Daisy May out of the water!
Basically, the meat was juicy as it should be, all tastes were distinct, crisp and rich, while the rubs were light, spicy, and allowed us to finish our meal without feeling like stuffed pigs ourselves.
Of course it's not fair to compare two restaurants based on a pulled piggy sandwich and a brisket with fried okra and bacon potato salad as sides, but we cannot wait for the next visit to explore the menu - this one looks like a keeper!
