Kabuto question for the locals. spouse and i have reservations for our first trip in late september, and i was wondering about the omakase menu. we both like to put away our fish, but i'm guessing no where near the levels of gobbo or other champs in the thread. in the regular's opinion, how would you gauge the yoroi+kabuto selection off of the omakase menu? not enough, just the right amount, or holy crap are you going to eat all of that?
i think the yoroi+kabuto ends up being 46 pieces not including amuse, appetizer, hand roll, miso, dessert, etc.
what to regulars ITT usually order?
*edit...just had the thought this might be more of a fine dining question than a casual dining question. should i ask it there?
The largest one is not a lot of food. I am definitely not stuffed after a visit to Kabuto but it's a very satisfying meal regardless because it is so good. You don't go to Kabuto to get full. The largest menu is good because of the variety of things you get to try. I recommend the largest omakase for your first trip because the experience is worth so much more.
I was at Kabuto in June. I can be a big sushi eater, but they force you to slow down a bit and really savor the food. Therefore I was full at the end of the meal. Not stuffed but definitely full.
I respect Gobbo on food but I will say that we took a group of 40+ guys and some got the small and others got the medium and I don't think anyone left hungry.
Chada Street was great. Beautiful interior. I ordered almost everything gobbo had plus the grilled prawn/clam/squid with a great sauce full of thai chilis and sweet flavor too. My favorite dish may have been the fish curry wrapped in banana leaves. Unfortunately, forgot to order the fish larb that gobbo loved so much. It's the kind of place where I'll probably order something different every time whereas at Chada I can't not get my 3 favorites every time.
It compliments Chada nicely. Lunchtime was filling up too.

Yeah my plan was to go last night but I read on FB that they were closed while they tweak their menu etc.
Gave me the chance to tell you all that I had another good dinner at Kyara though. Service was rather poor generally but the food all tasted good. Had a bunch of skewers, Mochi in broth, yamaimo teppan, and some nigiri. Super solid, pretty cheap.
Has anyone been to Doh? Same plaza as Chada Street. Delicious AYCE sushi, but also some really great Korean BBQ appetizers/tapas that you can get with the order. Definitely sets them apart in the AYCE sushi game. I recommend it.
Every place has a few kitchen dishes that set them apart but I still mostly get sushi when I go so it doesn't automatically make that place worth the +15 minutes it takes to get there. All the best AYCE places are so similar and they all get their fish from the same place so it just comes down to preference and how the service is.
Mine are strictly location/time based. Oyshi because it's right next to my apartment is the one I go to the most. Umiya when I'm near the strip or at the WSOP. Sushi Koma when it's too late for Oyshi to be open.
