Seriously I guess we're mindwiping the last 3 decades, but a huge debate among the more academic wings of the internet politics argument has been whether the GOP base was racist for being furious about Obamaphones and union thugs or whether their adherence to SOLID FISCAL CONSERVATIVE values just happened to make them commit domestic terrorism over LGBT bathroom policies
http://wgntv.com/2016/06/08/small-ex...anston-target/

Like the whole false consciousness/voting against class interests debate, a common refrain of internet snarktard libs was that the GOP was selling their base anti-gay and anti-black rhetoric to advance their real interests of low capital taxes and right to work, that nobody really supported that bull**** and it was a huge snowjob.

Well. It's June 11th, 2016. Trump was kind enough to run an empirical test of that for us.

95% chance you started to type "racist" then changed it to "ridiculous".

If you say it vociferously enough it might come true! Also you forgot to compliment Ins0 on his alpha virility.

He managed to win by being the most ridiculous candidate in a field of 18 people. Your average American isn't particularly bright, so it's easy to outlast the opposition in an 18 way race when you're the only guy getting TV coverage and you're running your mouth like a petulant 2nd grader. He was the only clown in what wound up as a circus act. Of course he won.

Look at the mental gymnastics that conservative party leaders are forced to engage in right now in order to put on a happy face and "support" this guy in public.

I realize this forum is an extreme left-wing echo chamber, but pretending that Trump somehow embodies the ideals of the conservative movement is just beyond idiocy.

This whole election cycle has been an absolute cluster**** on both sides. A 95 year old marxist almost pulling an upset over the most hated woman in politics who winds up running against the guy who was 500-1 to win the GOP nomination a year ago because nobody believed he was a serious candidate.
Well you are ****ed then because the one thing those guys have in problem is they are all more popular than conervativism. Your boy Scott Walker is 1/100 as popular as any of those people

I love how LetsGambool comes in here, brimming with confidence, oozing with testosterone, and just ****ing nails it. Ram your hot throbbing logic down InsO's throat LG!

I would love for you to explain how conservatives have acted as liberal lite.

Didn't shut down the government for good, didn't vet Obama, let Hillary off for Benghazi without even an investigation, can't open carry at preschools, didn't abolish teaching of evolution, etc. People are FED UP with broken promises.

Not to get dragged into BernieBroism again, but he's not really much older than Trump or Clinton. Does dying your hair and a massive insane combover really fool people?

According to Ann Coulter it was the 19th.

I'm old enough to remember when conservatives made fun of politicians for making up life harrowing incidents involving air travel.

Quote:
It's a harrowing tale of real estate mogul Donald Trump narrowly escaping death: After meeting with Trump casino executives Stephen Hyde, Mark Grossinger Etess, and Jonathan Benanav, Trump at the last minute decides to not join them on their helicopter ride back to Atlantic City.

...

According to at least three biographies on Trump, however, that detail is a complete fabrication.

...

Mr. Trump, I know this must be horrible for you," the book quotes a reporter on the other line "I know it must be terrible for you to lose your three top casino executives all in the same day. I'm so sorry about what happened...I guess the only thing that could have been worse is if you had been on the helicopter with them."

Trump, according to the book, then looked at one of his vice presidents and said he needed to get publicity out of the incident.

"You're going to hate me for this," Trump is alleged to have said. "But I just can't resist. I can get some publicity out of this."

"Then Donald releases the mute button on his speakerphone and informs the reporter, 'You know, I was going to go with them on that helicopter…'*

Are you sure she does? Probably a little. Just like most people do a little. I know that the doctors without borders do. And probably Ben Carson. But when your claim to fame and riches depends on your purported caring about people it makes me a little skeptical.

I've listened to her talk a good bit, especially going back to the debates in 2008 and this year with Bernie Sanders. She comes across as someone who legitimately cares about things like civil rights and economic inequality. I voted for Bernie Sanders because I believe our government needs a major overhaul, not incremental progress. But I'll gladly support Clinton in the general for many reasons, and one is yes I do believe she's genuine.

I think she cares about doing the right thing. She also cares a lot about winning, as all politicians do. Obama is a politician, and I believe he cares about me too. He's certainly more charismatic than she is. I'm sure I'll have many of the same problems with her that I do with Obama. She's not going to have the most transparent administration, and she'll probably continue horrible stuff like going after whistleblowers and keeping people locked up for years without a trial. But Trump has the potential to be so much worse on these issues. He has an ugly authoritarian side and I think it's a real danger to the world.

"After narrowly escaping financial ruin in the early 1990s by delaying payments on his debts, Mr. Trump avoided a second potential crisis by taking his casinos public and shifting the risk to stockholders.

And he never was able to draw in enough gamblers to support all of the borrowing. During a decade when other casinos here thrived, Mr. Trump’s lagged, posting huge losses year after year. Stock and bondholders lost more than $1.5 billion.

All the while, Mr. Trump received copious amounts for himself, with the help of a compliant board. In one instance, The Times found, Mr. Trump pulled more than $1 million from his failing public company, describing the transaction in securities filings in ways that may have been illegal, according to legal experts.

Mr. Trump now says that he left Atlantic City at the perfect time. The record, however, shows that he struggled to hang on to his casinos years after the city had peaked, and failed only because his investors no longer wanted him in a management role."

Great Businessman (and certainly not a fraud)! Will run America like he ran(runs?) his business empire.

Also,

"Not everyone agreed. Mr. Trump’s longtime investment bankers at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette had backed out of a deal with Mr. Trump to invest in the company shortly before the bankruptcy was filed. Suing for $26 million in fees, the bankers said in court papers that the casinos would be back in bankruptcy court within five years because Mr. Trump’s revenue projections were too rosy and the company was still carrying too much debt.

The Trump name does not connote high-quality amenities and first-class service in the casino industry,” lawyers for the investment bank said. “Rather,” the Trump name is associated with “the failure to pay one’s debts, a company that has lost money every year, and properties in need of significant deferred maintenance and lagging behind their competitors.” (The dispute was later settled.)"

I didn't realize Trump had been roasted. It was 2011. The one topic he vetoed was any claim he had less money than he says.
