All you can say is that the ruling cost you equity, but unless the ruling going the other way would have left your opponent with less than one big blind, talking about what would have happened as if it were a virtual lock is silly.
Just getting caught up.

Is it just me or does Cantu sound EXACTLY like PH only slightly younger? His voice inflections, his logic, the way he wanders away from the facts when they don't suit his purpose. I really felt like I was listening to PH 10 years ago.

And, remind me again, this recent 'bad beat' ??!! he got it in w QQ v KK right and just happened to catch on the flop? Yet he genuinely believes that he took a bad beat there? And ofc had he not gotten that beat, he would have won...ofc...always...know what I mean?

Delusional....and fascinating. I'm surprised he's not involved in some sort of dust-up most days he's at the tables.

I need some help on something else. I usually am right on top of Pokernews vids for WSOP coverage, but admit that after watching the first few days I was turned off by the new hosts.

Now I glance quickly (thumbnails) at the Pokernews vids for the past week or so and I only see a few w Sarah and a lot with a dude interviewing (who I assume is Remko?)

Did they bench the new crew?

Definitely not just you. In the thread about the Cantu 2-7 incident over in NVG, there are several such comparisons. He even looks like he could be Hellmuth's son. If you were to take Cantu's "you know" disfluency and sub in "I mean, come on," I'd have a hard time telling them apart.

I always though that Hellmuth regularly telling everyone he has never cheated on his wife was a case of 'me thinks the lady doth protest too much'. Now there is a younger poker player who has similar looks and behavioural traits, the rumour mill could be doing overtime

BTW they weren't casino security guards in front of the ladies room they were Las Vegas Metro Cops. So yes Vanessa has a lot of pull.

Brandon (to know me is to love me ) Cantu and Phil (If it weren't for luck I'd win them all ) Helmuth are both talented poker players with annoying whining voices , both former UB shills and both comically delusional without an ounce of humility between them . I think you might be on to something.

Yes the topic has been more than beat to death , but i found Busquets comments to be very insightful and how could it be good for the game to have the winner of a huge tournament spewing off about how poker is ruining many peoples lives whilst he's grinning broadly holding up bricks of cash.

Just watched Dan Colman on the WPT Premiere League re recast, interview and all. Seemed comfortable and non conflicted.

and not speaking to a world wide audience including a lot of non poker players

It does surprise me that Guy didn't put a clause in the tournament that the winner does at least some photos etc. even if it is just for charity promo

Dan did the interview about the charity and has also committed to going to Africa to promote the charity this year.

It was the rest of the poker related interviews he has no interest in.

Fair enough. That makes more sense than what I thought had happened.

Hello dears! Currently listening to the Pokercast while unpacking back in the recording studio.

I actually had no clue Grapes wasn't planning on playing the 10k until he told me after the fact. I hadn't heard the rest of the story, so that was awesome to listen to! He said he was just planning on going home previously, but decided to use some of the winnings to buy into Stud, which makes me really happy. Grapes is a very very supportive friend. He, Steve Albini, and I are going to do a radio/video thing together tomorrow that should hopefully be archived, if you guys feel like watching us be *******s together. Its probably linked to Grapes' Twitter. =)

Danzer and I are def both going to Australia. I may or may not be currently browsing ebay for elaborate scarves.

The Kevmath ME buy was awesome, and I wish I had known about it before the fact. That guy is so insanely reliable and informative, I actually feel guilty how reliable he is.

Liv interview was outstanding. Hearing how Turbo and Super play becomes applicable to MTTs is fascinating, and I can relate, as I see all the ways that advanced mixed is applicable to playing specific NL spots.

I missed most of the Dan stuff being busy w tournies, but I liked what Liv had to say from his bias. I will be curious to see how Dan feels about his decision in retrospect years from now, aside from just maybe not being prepared to articulate a proper response at the time.

Agree that I think Phil was oblivious to the Cantu incident, and also that Obst is a very talented player. Hopefully he will be staying with us next year.

Chad Brown was ****ing incredible, and the perfect example of how people should behave at the table. So glad the Bluff POY Award has been named the Chad Brown POY Award! What a great move!

After the 50k, I was under the impression that I needed to mincash in order to pass Danzer for POY. Clearly I'm an idiot for not knowing the exact requirements to take the lead. I cashed the 3k O8 ( my very next tournament ). It paid 54, I finished 34th, and found out after the fact that I needed to finish 27th to lead POY.

Since the next tourney was just a 1500 and not a 3k I would again need more than a min cash to lead. The 10 game paid 48 and I would need to finish 23rd. If I bubble I am .2 points behind George. Bonomo doubles through my friend Tom Koral in Badugi by making a better J against Toms pat J on the very last draw, so I am now the short stack by a good margin on my POY bubble, and I'm sweating some, but sort of bemused at the situation. While tanking with .5bb with 44 in LHE vs Luskes BB defend, flop lead, on a board of K69, two people bust out in what I think was a PLO hand, unbeknownst to me, prior to me making the call and holding vs Luskes 78. Grapes wins his bracelet, and I get to run over in time for the photo. That was a very good day!

Sorry for all of my dumb sh*t, but I enjoyed listening to the show, as always!

Totally. Play mixed similarly too ( small sample ), which shouldnt be a surprise given the interview. Cantu interview sort of reminded me of ADZ a bit.

Cantu is busto right? Not sure how that happens as in the interview he literally is the best at every game, and he would be a multi millionaire winner if he was more popular.

Man was Cantu hard to listen to. The guys did a good job covering several different topics, but he could whine on about anything. To say you're the unluckiest, and have had the worst rulings of all time and all that is pretty delusional.
07-22-2014 , 04:55 AM
"I like poker when I am winning"

yes, Brandon, we all do! god, that was a cringeworthy interview by Cantu.
07-22-2014 , 10:01 AM
yeah it was an honest answer to the question he was asked

did you want him to give an original answer to every question or an honest one?
07-22-2014 , 01:40 PM
Random side note - it has been mentioned a couple of times about Bilzarien being on Joe Rogan's podcast. I am more excited for the fact he is having Ike Haxton on today. Rogan has tweeted to say it will live at 12pm PT

Cantu's reality is way off base.

Adam should have given his two cents on Cantu's actions were in the 2-7 tourney.
Also, why didn't anyone ask him about the altercation with Jeff Lisandro and how he actually physically assaulted someone in the 2-7 tourney and had to go with security?

Isn't there usually an unrecorded pre-interview in which, among other things, they discuss territory on which the guest does not want to tread? If there is even a hint of possible legal action, then, yeah, I (or my attorneys) wouldn't want to discuss it.

In most cases they do pre interviews. Maybe for such controversial figures like Cantu or Lederer they can tell the listeners what topics are off limits so we don't get our hopes up or expectations too high.

And there is no legal action when podcast hosts try to ask a guest questions. That's all I wanted was that Cantu be asked about his 2014 wsop controversies.

I meant if there were potential legal action against Cantu for the incident, his attorneys might not want him talking about it.
