Pokercast 353 - Ali Nejad and Joe Stapleton

Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - This week on the Pokercast: Adam and Terrence are back in studio together and this week they have brought along their old friend Thomas Koo. Thomas has been in the Poker industry for a dog's age, formerly working for Pokerstars and running the LAPT. The crew starts off with another story involving guns in mexico, but no guns were actually fired this time. Thomas recounts an LAPT stop in Mexico which was stopped mid-way because of the Mexican authorities. Adam brings up a story about Bovada taking big losses due to UFC underdogs winning the majority of fights, Terrence weighs in and then Adam runs through his Poker Power 20 rankings (so far). Moving into “In Case You Missed It” our lead story is the raid of “Seals With Clubs” Bitcoin poker site marketing director Bryan Micon’s house being raided by the Nevada Gaming Commision. Other stories include: A poker player proving he can play Spin & Go’s profitably over a large sample for a prop bet, Negreanu blogs about who should be barred from the WSOP, The Aviation Club closes and Katie Dozier’s open letter to Pokerstars about the upcoming $9M Sunday Million. We’ve got 2 guest’s this week that are heavyweights of poker broadcasting, Ali Nejad is our first. You may recognize Ali as the voice of “Poker After Dark”, “Poker Road Radio” and other poker shows, He joins us to talk about his past experiences in poker and what he’s up to now. Ali (who’s broaching 1M followers on Twitter) is the host of a brand new show with an interesting concept, interacting with people he meets on social media, it’s called “The Social Life”. He also plays a game of “Stripper Trivia” with us, and tells stories such as the time he got to play Xbox on the jumbotron at a football stadium. Joe Stapleton is on right after Ali, Joe really needs no introduction as he is the hilarious co-host of the EPT broadcast’s. Joe has been around a good while, too. He recounts his days coming up with the Poker Road crew and where those guys are at now. Joe talks about being an American living in Europe, and how he bombed doing stand-up in London using that premise. The guys share their favourite “Challenge Stapes” episodes, plus Stapes talks about the amount of fame that comes with being a poker host and travelling the tournament circuit. In “140 or less” the crew reviews the best tweet’s from poker players this week, and then share their “Favourite Things!” where Ross debuts a new intro. We also chat with Lee Jones from Pokerstars HQ about what to look forwards to at the big red spade this week. Damn, I'm stupid...

I like the Crush Live Poker strategy minute (I'm a low-stakes, live newb, so I'm in their wheelhouse), but are you guys ever going to figure it out before the show? Adam always sounds confused when the segment comes up. Do we have a segment? Is it Bart? That would tilt me if I was Bart.

Ali and Stapes were great, though. You're drawing dead to beat Ali's Stripper Trivia. Might as well change the game now.

The strat minute is sent to me, not Adam. Sometimes I receive it while the show is in progress... So he usually asks me what it's about before we play it, but obviously he knows that it's a part of the show. Also Bart isn't the only CLP coach so it's possible that it could not be him, but that hasn't been the case yet . Another thing, I am aware of a bit of feedback occurring during a few bits of the show while certain people are talking, I had an issue with a compressor in the studio but I will have it sorted before next week.

BTW--I came from Pokerroad too! In fact that's really how I got my start in all of the strategy podcasts on live NL.
