"Royal Flush Sweepstakes Charity Pool" Proposal Thread

As the self-proclaimed King of Royal Flushes, I just had an idea that people may be interested in:

Cliffs: Starting from Day 1, each person pays a set amount, say $1, each day into the prize pool. The first person to hit a Royal Flush using both hole cards wins the pool. 25% is donated to charity. A new pool then starts from the following day.

-------

More detailed preliminary rules: (These are all just suggestions and others are invited to suggest additions or changes.)

*Amounts will be relatively small, so there will be no escrow. The prize pool is virtual and everyone will simply commit to "putting aside" their daily stake and paying the winner directly once someone hits a Royal Flush.

*Wager will be $2/day for everyone who averages >4,000 hands a day, and $1/day for everyone else. (Most people fall clearly within one side of this range, but incase of uncertainty your average hands/day at the time of pay-out will determine the amount you have to pay.) To help with admin, everyone states at time of entry which volume range they're in.

*There will be a 50-day limit to ensure everyone's maximum exposure is kept small, although I would expect the prize to be reached within this time frame nearly always, assuming there are several players in the pool.

*ALL WINNING HANDS MUST BE BOOMED!

*The first person to post the BOOM! link in the thread will be declared the winner.

*Trusted, well known non-Stars players (and SMB & Mayo) will be allowed to post alternative evidence.

*Both hole cards must be used.

*All real money stakes and all NLH games count.

*Days will start/end using EST.

*Players may not opt out at any time during the current pool. To opt out of the sweepstakes pool, a player must declare in the thread prior to the next one starting.

*Everyone is automatically rolled over to the next sweepstakes pool, which starts the day after we have a winner.

*Players may opt in at any time but are liable for the days they have missed. E.g. If you opt in at Day 7 then they owe 7 bets to the prize pool. (Opting in at any time is 0EV.)

*Winner must donate 25% of all winnings to a charity and post verification in the thread.

*All players are responsible for keeping track of events. NO excuses.

*Low post count/unknown posters may not enter unless a well known poster will guarantee their payment.

------

Let me know what you think and add your own suggestions. If we get a lot of entrants that results in a RF getting hit too regularly then we could always add extra requirements. E.g. First a RF must be hit and then quads must be hit. (That can be discussed if and when we need to.) Alternatively, if everyone thinks it's a shlt idea then we'll scrap it!

An example:

Ten players enter, and the pool starts on Jan 11th. Players 1-3 average >4,000 hands a day. Players 4-10 average less. On Day 5, Player 8 declares he wants to opt out for the next cycle. Two other players (both <4k/day) join on Day 6. Player 7 hits a RF on Jan 22nd (Day 12). Players 1-3 transfer him $24 each. The others transfer him $12 each. He wins $132, donates $33 to a charity, and posts a screen shot with evidence. Another person joins. A new cycle (game) starts from Day 1 on Jan 23rd with the twelve players.

It's been a while since I hit a royal and I feel like I'm getting closer, so I would join. Hope it's ok since I just play micros.

Micro stakes players can join too, as long as they're known or vouched for.

I guess we have enough for a trial run. I suggest we give it a few more days first to see if anyone else wants to join. I'll ask the MSFR players too.

When is this going to start?

Heh, I think I'm a huge dog in this. I don't remember the last time I hit a royal.

I'd def. be in for this but it seems that hitting a royal considering the huge volume of some regs is too easy as there would likely be a daily winner. Why not make it more of a month long gamble where the winner has to hit a royal flush in each different suit. People all toss in money ahead of time... $20-$100 and the first person to hit all 4 wins.

All suggestions welcome.

I think having to hit all four suits within a month is a near impossible task though, and it would also favour the higher volume players to the extent that the lower volume players aren't getting a fair deal:

E.g. If you and I are rolling a dice and I have numbers 1-4 and you have 5-6 then it's fair if I put up double your stake. However if we now change the rules to say that the winner is the first one to hit one of their numbers 4 times then your odds are dramatically reduced from the previously fair 2-1.

And regarding hitting all four suits in a month: Last Jan I hit five Royals, and I doubt this has happened many times before (maybe never?) Anyway, even hitting five in a month the chance of getting 4 different suits is still very unlikely, whereas the others can hit any suit.

-----

If a RF gets hit too often then it would prob be best to stipulate something like only red RFs or only black RFs. Alternatively we could say the first to hit two RFs wins but the higher volume players would be restricted to only red (or black) RFs.

Something like this sounds cool. Count me in.
