he's referenced his game "going to ****" or something similar ever since having enormous success in the beginning of the year. people often underestimate how hard it is just to stay profitable at mid-stakes, games get harder every day, and doing things like taking a month off to play the wsop steps (which he did for the double vpp's) i think can have very negative consequences on a person's game. that being said, its a shock to me that he isnt still beating mid-stakes, because he was a pretty good player for a while. i still think he's a better player than plenty of mid-stakes regs (including myself), maybe he just cant take the fpp pro mentality i (and others) can

dear pokerstars regs -

STOP BERATING THE FISH. Seriously, it baffles me how some of you guys still do this. There is no chance this is good for you in the long run. ****ing stop it.

So the past two weekends before this I made over 2500 on Saturday and gave it all back Saturday night / Sunday morning. I played pretty horibbly towards the end of both of this weekends. This weekend I won about 3k and didn't play Sunday at all. I took my winnings and went to the Bears/Vikings game and watched a game with 90 points scored and didn't piss away all of my winnings. UP TOP!!
10-20-2008 , 05:21 PM
hit and running the weekends is the only way to beat them

700k fpps worth $11k-ish fwiw.

Its not talent that keeps you at midstakes fr for long period of times. Many many players have enough talent to beat the games despite how tough they are. However, very few players (even fewer that have the necessary talent) have the ability to put in the hands for any significant period of time.

+1. I don't hold much hope for the millions... but the VIP tournaments at the very least should be played at varying times.

Lol rumouraments. Pretty sure he won like $35k while on a stake and as a reward for his prop bet stars gave him an EPT package.

Doug is a really good guy. When I was in Vegas earlier this year I had the privilege of meeting up with him. It will be interesting to see how he goes with reaching his goals by the end of the year. Personally, I think setting financial goals for yourself in poker, especially such drastic ones, is probably a pretty unwise thing to do. Aspire to play well, put in hands and the results will take care of themselves. There is enough stress/emotional issues associated when you swong without adding another pressure to it all.

For promoting the brand with the prop bet I guess
10-20-2008 , 07:51 PM
ok, how do you come up with 700k fpps? i mean, why not 750, or 500? such a random number...

unless you can buy something specifically for 700k? that EPT package sounds about right at 11200.

Maybe because the package in the fpp store was 1.4M and they gave him half price on it if he wanted to go and play it? Not sure, sounds reasonable though.

I made a post in the SNE thread in the Zoo about the shortstacking. That's not a permanent thing -- I just logged on to play at 3:30am PST Sunday night and there were only four or five 1-2 tables with fewer than 3 shortstackers on them. It literally would have been impossible to play deep stack poker at that limit at that time. So I gave shortstacking a try for ****s. the trip report (with graph) is in the SNE thread.

I am an old man at 31 compared to most of you young bucks. I've been playing poker online longer than most of you too, since back when Paradise was the big room, back when there was only limit poker until CCCPoker had 1-2 pot limit with no max buyin. Hell I was playing online poker on Deltapoker 9 years ago. Anyways, the poker, it gets a little boring.

The games are tougher than they used to be, but I'm sure I would still be successful at 5/10 if I were to play 6 tables for 4 hours a day, like I used to. I've not had a brain seizure or anything like that. But the SNE grind takes its toll... it's hit me really hard. Over 5 years of being a pro, I've gone through rough spots with my game before. Unlike most pros, I've never been backed in anything and I've never borrowed a dime. I'm bankroll conservative, and see no reason to play games I don't think I'd beat right now, just because I'm capable of beating them in general.

I don't really have my A-game at the moment, and I particularly struggle when playing more than 9 tables and/or sessions longer than 6 hours or so. I do not have the ability to take a break right now to regain freshness due to being behind on VPPs. In addition, I've run pretty poorly the last few months according to HEM.

I set a goal early this year of making supernova elite, and I'm going to do whatever it takes to get there. Right now that means 15-tabling 1/2 for 60-70 hours a week. It sucks, but I'm not a quitter. Was this the best road for me to take this year? Hard to say. I'll evaluate that at the end of the year. Right now, I'm just focused on reaching the goal.

FWIW, SNE has well over $100,000 in value. While sitngos and tourneys have cost me about $20k this year and I've had some bad runs in cash games, I'm still solidly profitable for the year without SNE. Life is not bad.

I've played more 5/10 NL than anything else on stars since that limit was first added to the software. I still consider it my 'regular game', and don't expect that to change.

from his propbet thread
"This prop bet has relaly changed me I think, was it worth 20k? No. I ended up getting 700k fpps from stars, 3k in winnings, and like 3k in rakeback with a 2k milestone or something. So i probably came fairly close to even."

Ackbleh, good luck with your quest for SNE. I'm sure it isn't easy but after reading your post I don't doubt that you'll get there. GOGOGOGOGO!
