I personally enjoy all varieties of steak... They are all good but slightly different. My favorite is probably the cut I didn't have last, but my favorites in a vacuum are ribeye and porterhouse. People will say filet is for chicks, and real steak lovers like the chew. But it's whatever you're in the mood for... Just don't get it cooked more than medium... Otherwise, you might as well get the chicken breast. :-P

Ruth Chris serves their steak on a platter of sizzing butter, so some people think it's more flavorful (because let's face it... Butter makes most things taste better), but the purists think that's blasphemous. For me... It's all about variety, so eating that once in a while is still pretty good.

I prefer stockyards to Allen bros, but I've only had Allen bros once.

Interesting article on the wagyu. Not sure what I've been eating, but the fake Kobe tougher cuts can be pretty good. The one time I had wagyu ribeye was find of gross... A fatty version of a fatty cut is too much fat.... Even for me.
Never had this before. I will have to give it a try. Is it good enough to serve at a New Years Eve Party?

The steaks aren't phenomenal, but I like going there once in a while with the mrs. A lot of "nice" steakhouses look so crappy on the inside... Palm, Luger's, some Smith + Woll, etc, it feels like a busto date. My favorite chains are probably del Frisco, and Ruth Chris when I feel like some butter. I heard good things about capital grille, but the one time I went, it was pretty bad (maybe it was the location?). Usually, there will be a local steak place that's better than most chains, so look around if you are feeling adventurous.

Yes. But in looking at the web sites, the Allen bros web site looks a lot more impressive. Again, I only got 1 shipment, so maybe an inferior cow snuck in there somehow. :-)

I guess that's the thing with steakhouses and steaks by mail... Your experience is going to vary from cow to cow, so you need to try a few times to get a decent sample.

Maybe you can do a taste-off, and report back to the thread?

I play 2-3 rounds per week. Do you play more than that? My Monday round I usually get in 27 holes (I'm not sure how disco is going to respond here).

disco gave up on golf after he got lessons which ADDED 10 strokes to his handicap

Lol. You don't have to be rich... Going to a steakhouse 5x ayear over like 20 years is 100 trips.

For you filet lovers out there, Del frisco's has this dinner for two for $99 where each person gets salad, crab cake (one of the best), 8 oz filet, side, and dessert. Not in nyc or boston. you could spend that at your local meh restaurant for all that food. That's just a big blind for a high roller like you. ;-)

Brag: I paid for less than 20% of these. It was good being a client.
Beat: I weigh almost 250.
Variance: Fatter guys are jollier?

I must be living the high life. I eat steak about 2-3 times a weak minimum. Every now and then I really like to splurge and get all dressed up to go to Golden Corral. Eat 33 oz of their luscious well done steak and chocolate water fall. The finer things in life
08-10-2012 , 03:31 AM
You eat steak 2-3 times a week because that is how long it takes to finish chewing a steak from the golden corral.

Burn. Just eat chick fa la.
