I know it was an awful line. I didnt think there was any point of betting the flop since his range is mostly PP's AK AQ AJ.

the point of betting the flop is to avoid second guessing yourself. If you check that board he feels like he is best or that you maybe have QQ or KK and he can get you off of it. either way there are situations where raising pre-flop and checking a monster flop are good, i would say this isnt one of them.

I agree. As played, you should call in this situation. You severely under-represented your hand. You're playing it like a KK/QQ/1010 or weak ace(s) that missed a FD bud didn't want to fold trips. Villian's betting range on the flop is really any pocket pair any big/suited ace and any big pair. He's betting with a lot of things that you have beat in this situation.

You gotta c-bet this flop for balance though, imo.
