This does make a bit of sence.

I'm not talking about gimmick clubs. Perimeter weighted clubs (read: cavity backs) have a lower center of gravity. I'll poke around the internet some more tomorrow when I have time and try to find a definitive results-driven study or experiment that will shed some light on the subject.

I score better with blades, no scientific study needed

Would this be true if you had 180+ into all your par 4's? I realize what you're saying and what you mean, but if you really think about it, there is definitely merit to playing a more forgiving club.

Cheers. I hit my blades alot straighter than I hit my hogans, so I really have no idea what clubs offer more control.

@ntnBO Sorry did not realize that you came complete with a certificate of superior merit. The yahoos at OOBGolf play the same game as everyone else with the same balls and clubs and have the same opinions...

All I am saying is that once you shoot in the mid 80's consistently you can probably get rid of your Super Game Improvement Irons and get an iron that can give you some feedback and do more than just hit the ball straight every time regardless...

I'm sorry but why would I want a set of clubs that don't go straight every time regardless? Also, where can I find one of these sets that just stubbornly go straight no matter how you hit them because that sounds exactly what I'd like.

Well now you realize that I came complete with superior merit and don't care about the opinions of a bunch of random 90-shooting yahoos at OOB, please don't let that mistake happen again.

Well, there's a huge difference between a smaller cavity backed head and blades. I'm not totally averse to a decent ball striker going to a slightly smaller head just so long as it has all the perimeter weighted technology behind it.

And unless you consistently shoot in the 60's, you shouldn't even think about playing blades.

I feel like golf is more of a game of NOT having terrible mis-hits than it is of having jawdropping great shots. I feel like my iron play is probably the strongest part of my game but that it's also probably the least important. I think the teeball/driver and short game are a good deal more important than iron play.

When I go to the range I use an old wilson staff blade 1 iron, I'll post a picture of it when I can, it's pretty sick. It basically looks the same from each side, lol. I use it cause it's fun, and I don't feel like snapping one of my irons that I use each day. I hit it pretty well, about 95% of the time. It's that 5% of bad shots that scare the life out of me though.

Google image search sucks now. I'll take a pic of my Cleveland gunmetal TA1 1-iron when I clean my closet out in a few days. LOVE that thing, but definitely not the numbers play

That is not just a blade, it is a knife.

I switched to Titleist MBs on the recommendation of the golf coach where I went to undergrad (was on a different athletic team, but had asked him for some help).

At the time I was a 4, and during the early stages I started shooting closer to low 80s than low 70s. Eventually I got it together and currently play to a 3. I have been considering getting fitted for a set of cavity backs, but am unsure of which and if I will do it.

I tried playing a set of Titleist tour blades for a couple seasons not long ago and must say that as an ~10 handicap they were far beyond my capabilities. They felt absolutely fantastic when you hit them perfectly and like swinging a rake when I hit them badly. The vibrations through off center hits were almost unbearable and the end result of those shots was beyond terrible. I made the switch to Taylor Made Tour burners and have way more fun playing the game and don't get punished nearly as badly on my poor shots.

On a related note, I had a friend who played a set of accuform blades ages ago and the 2 iron was the most evil looking thing I've ever seen...almost like a butter knife, only smaller.

Given the quality of modern cavity backs, its crazy to play blades. I'm a 1 handicap and I love my Callaway X-Tours.

everyone on here hits over 300 so they never have 180 into any par 4's. ever.
