89 on the Thursday

Had a triple on both front nine par fives and finished double double.

Very solid overall.
33 putts

One beautiful sand save for par.

Hitting irons great.
Driver still really lacking.

Saturday: 43-44 = 87
Sunday: 44

This always seems to happen to me: shoot one of my best rounds, and then it becomes a **** show. I'm not too disheartened; if I'm looking for reasons/explanations, the course was very, VERY wet and it really impacted my shots off the fairway. I could not for the life of me avoid chunking shots, from 3W to wedges. Green speed was also very inconsistent and I did not adapt well. Sad thing is that 87 includes two birdies.

Sunday is a throwaway. I went out there with hopes the weather would hold and it didn't. It was pouring down rain the whole time (hence only nine holes) with the wind picking up by hole 5. Just miserable, and I wasn't swinging well with all the rain gear I had on. Standing water all over the place.

I drove the ball damn good both days, so there's that. Monthly team play tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be nice. I'm going to go out early and focus on the putting green.

1 birdie, 2 bogeys

Very boring. Lots of GIR, lots of 2-putts. Off the tee was questionable today but never in any terrible danger.

Played at 7am started off a bit cold but by the time the 1st hole got played I was in a T shirt was stunning out there.

37-34-71 +2

3 Birdies 10 Pars 5 Bogeys

1 Under back 9 had 2 Birdies and 1 bogey on the back. Bogey was on a small Par 3 where the tee shot seem to be some sort of flyer and I flew the green which I normally never do. Was lucky as OB is long.

Monthly men's event. ABCD draw done my golf genius. Irish scramble, 1 score on holes 1-6, 2 scores on holes 7-12. 3 scores on 13-15, 4 scores on 16-18. We started on 18. Got as low a -6 but ended up even par. It was me (2 shots) along with a 12, 14, and 15.

I shot 40-39-79. 1 birdie and 8 bogeys.

Putting was abysmal. I hit 8 of 9 greens on the back and shot 39. 4 bogeys (including 3 3-putts) and 1 birdie.

Feel a bit out of sync right now with the swing,

Playing a tougher course tomorrow so will probably get found out

40-36-76

3 birdies, 7 bogeys

Considering the wind today I will take it, although it was the "good" wind direction. Went for 18 in 2 and failed miserably from 230y out and made bogey.

42-43-85. No birdies, 3 double bogeys.

Opening day for this course, nice that it coincided with a beautiful 53 degree Sunday. Conditions were surprisingly dry and the greens were in good shape. They even had carts out. I walked.

Pretty happy with the result tbqh, considering I took exactly two practice swings before teeing it up and that was the first time I'd touched a club since Christmas. About half good shots and half not so good, but even the really ugly ones weren't catastrophic. A couple chunked wedges and the only two hybrids I tried were bad. Had five or six reasonable birdie chances and nearly holed out my only bunker shot of the day.

Yup got found out,

Shot 87 at a course I shot 73 before

Couldn't putt had no shot game basically a GG.... Doubled the 1st then literally played bogey golf up till the 16th where I got a Par then back to the bogey's on 17 and 18. Then after the round I had a 28 HC'er saying your score isn't that bad

On a short Par 4 hit my drive quite close to the green. Lipped out for Eagle 3 putt from there

I will say the greens were rapid today and a lot of the longer holes were into the wind. I think I hit a chippy 8 iron about 110 yards.

One to forget.

Only good thing was the meal afterwards was delightful.

Played 3 holes. 45 degrees sunny with stiff unrelenting wind. Work came up and 3rd hole finishes at clubhouse so ez game.

I was playing from tips. 3rd hole probably 440 to 460 from there. Driver into the wind got me exactly far enough to have a shot at the green from 210(hole turns 90 degrees right about 170 from center of green. Aimed 3 wood at left side of green and just tried to hit it straight. I pushed it just enough to send it directly at the pin. It landed a few paces on and quickly stopped 12 feet short.

Missed birdie 8 feet by. Miss par narrowly. Tap in bogey on hardest hole on the course.

Hopefully I can play the rest tomorrow no fee.

Yup completely lost it played 18 holes scored pretty average hit the ball like a turd. Probably hit 3 good shots in terms of strike all round. Most just blading everything. Sucks!

Also had another hole in one scare today. Hit a wedge into a green that slopes from right to left. Hit it 2 feet right of the pin bounced over the hole and ended up 2 feet left of the pin. It's probably the best scare I've had. One day it will drop!

Its 445 on the card. Very challenging hole for me under prime scoring conditions from middle teebox. Trees all down the right side prevent 99% of golfers cutting the corner. Aim center fairway, hit it straight, and you get 180 yard shot to the green. 165 is attainable if slightly pushed or cut, but aiming for 165 would be reserved for closest to pin dares.

Oh, but I didnt finish yesterday. Sad because now its rain.

Went and played again this morning. Same hole and quite literally the same shot still didn't drop

9 holes +22. Hehe. From tips.

Highlights: 6 iron from light rough with tree 50 yards away directly between myself and green 165 to center. Little more wiggle room to the right side of green. Tried to hit a draw. It was one of those hit it but never see it fly shots. I didnt see it center green 7 paces on until I got much closer.

Decent greenside bunker shot only took one try, 15 feet left.

Couple ho hum tap in bogeys (none 3 putt).

Found greenside rough pin high on a par 4, 5 paces off.

54 degree wedge from 100 to 12 feet on 9(not putting birdie nor par tho).

Putting and chipping current weakest links.

Had the place to myself. Its early spring in New England. Basically zero roll. If youre not picking it very clean trap type contact, you lose tons of yards when club hits wet soil. The course is directly in the watershed for a huge swamp and its soggy in spring. Thus there was zero chance of anyone coming up behind me and even if they did, I could play middle tees to speed up.

Playing lots of shorter muni courses leads to playing from tips to get your moneys worth.

I like 560 yard par 5s.

I like 240 yard par 3s.

Etc... Was a nice 9 to start the year.

Saturday: 40 - 40 = 80
Sunday: 42 - 37 = 79

Feeling decent since I really didn’t feel like I played that well other than that last nine. I was hungover this morning, and I putt horribly when I’m hungover, lol.

This ain’t my first rodeo so I’m only cautiously optimistic, but back nine I made a swing change that could be big. I’ve been working on my wedge game, just tinkering, and figured out a couple weeks ago that I had more control and was hitting it more consistently with what was, to me, a more inside takeaway. Well, on hole 12 today it dawned on me it might work with all my clubs; it did. Feel kind of stupid because this should have been an easy revelation, but I’ve never been good with knowing my swing. From driver to 3W to, well, everything, I hit nearly every shot pure, and straight. I was one under the final 7 holes with 2 birdies.

I had already set up a lesson for tomorrow. Curious what he thinks.

Nice always awesome when a new feel clicks and it feels like a game changer. Hope it continues to work for you. Nice round.

I'm starting to drop the "cautiously" from the optimistic...had the lesson today and just striped them. Pro said what I suspected...while to me it feels very inside, my "new" takeaway is very much in the normal range, neither inside or outside. Felt great to belt a bunch of solid irons out there.

His putting tips helped, too. I've always been good enough (certainly above average compared to recreational golfers) at putting that I haven't bothered with a lesson, but this could be another game changer. For as long as I can remember I've extended my pointer finger down the grip. It's comfortable for me and makes me feel like I have more control over the putter, but the irony is every few strokes I tend to flick that trigger finger and thus my wrists. So I'm going to be practicing with a completely different grip and shorten my putter (I'm a short human) to help me get my eyes more over the ball. Next stop, the Tour....

This will require I grow at least 3-4 more inches, lose about 50 pounds of fat, and gain a bunch of weight in muscle. So yeah, definitely stay tuned.....

Calm and cloudy 43 degrees 7 am 9 holes. Par 34. 3041 yards from tips. +7261589

Driver only flew 150 yards on 560 yard par 5 second hole. 3 wood flew pretty far but missed right. Punched 4 iron thru trees. Launched 7 iron back rough. Chip to 10 feet. Tap in bogey.

4 iron on 170 yard par 3 to 15 feet. Tap in bogey.

Driver wide right (tee and green align with ob left) 3 wood from 220 on left skirt. Tap in bogey.

5 iron on 164 yard par 3 to left fringe 20 foot birdie putt. Tap in bogey.

Hard dogleg left par 4. 7 iron to 12 feet. Tap in bogey.

Left green side bunker after driver and 5 wood on 9.

Fill in the blanks with disaster. Only lost 2 balls.

No score, mostly a story. Yesterday afternoon I had a few drinks with a client, then met up with another attorney at the course for drinks. Have a couple, and he wants to play a few holes. We had never played together before, and I do NOT play well when a little tipsy, and hit just a horrendous shot off the first tee. He immediately starts giving me swing advice. I hack it around a couple more holes, with him (an admitted 18 handicap) keeping on trying to give me swing advice. Finally I said, "you might not know it by today, but I'm an 8 handicap." He laughed, surprised, and quit giving advice. I certainly don't think an 8 is incredibly impressive, but constant advice givers are annoying, especially when they're an 18 and hacking it around themselves (and when they tell me I should stop doing something the teaching pro just told me to work on).

(I still threw in a few pars, despite greens just being punched and sanded)
