Walked 18. 42 degrees kinda chilly wind.

55-45-100

1 par on front. Went par birdie par par on 16 through 1(started on 3). Birdie was from ladies tee(205 yard par 4 around a corner.
Hit 3 iron to 15 yards short. Then chip and putt) because guys were letting me play through.

Best shot of the day was first tee shot. Drew 3 wood around dogleg left. Hit a handful of greens and fairways.

Yesterday was tough. Not golf either. I found out my mom died around 830 Wednesday morning. The golf was my escape. She crept into my thoughts on most shots. I really wasnt expecting to have good focus.

Hit a few satisfying shots. Thats all I wanted.
Sorry I missed that in your post earlier. Condolences.

"Well I am on the highest recommended dose of mood stabilizer, so I got that going for me."

Tomorrow might be tough day. Its gonna pour rain. No golf. Boooo.

Thats really nice. Thank you.

40 degrees on a very blustery day. Rained all day yesterday but idgaf. Friend joined me to the front. I played the 9 hole course a second time by myself.

Front 9:

1) decent 3 wood to the bottom of the hill that protects the front of the 14 yard diameter green. Second shot on to the front of the green. 3 putt bogey.

2) poor flare 3 wood short right. Good fade 3 wood looking good but disappeared. Drop 30 yd short in rough. Pitch titleist 58 degrees wedge that I got used 20 bucks 3 days ago looks brand new to 4 feet. Bogus unofficial bogey.

3) decent 3 wood draw slight push into rough through fairway that goes dogleg left wind hurt a lot. Topped 6 iron. Slice 2 iron out of bounds. Drop. Punch pw under tree one bounce next to the Back pin didnt stop. Skulled 58 wedge past the pin to the fringe. Few putts.

4) topped 3 wood. Thin 5 iron. Decent 58 wedge. Putts.

5) Thin 2 iron made it past the junk. Shank. Punch. Flop to 5 feet. Putt.

6) found right side with cut 3 wood. (A slice by definition here is out of bounds. Lol) 7 iron to front right. 3 putts from 50 feet. First putt was pretty good but missed 3 footer.

7) punch draw 8 iron on short par 3 to front edge. Trees leave little room for error high. Chip and some putts

8) Thin 4 iron just short of brook that crosses fw. Muddy weird lie. 9 iron recovery to 5 yards short of the green. Chip and putts

9) decent draw 3w to center of fw. 54 degrees wedge to front edge. 2 putts for 1st par of day.

I think I only liked 2 or 3 shots on the back but my score was better because I avoided huge numbers.

Played Bali Hai in Las Vegas yesterday. 41-39 80(par 71). 3 birdies, 4 doubles. The 3 guys I got paired with were a lot of fun and the caddie I had added a lot to the round. Fun time and will likely play there again. It wasn't my top option but since the wife and kids were with me and they needed the car for the day it was the most convenient.

Back to golf (and the golf forum) after a month off visiting family, then getting super sick for a week (but no COVID).

Shot 40-41 on an absolutely beautiful winter morning. It was cold, but sunny, very little wind. The 41 was with two doubles.

Just before my "break" I made two notable changes to my game: I narrowed my stance in an effort to improve rotation through the ball, and I started focusing more on length of putter stroke to help improve short to short-mid range putts. I had played a couple times with those change with ok results, but this past weekend things just clicked. I was driving the ball straighter and a bit further, and putts were going down. All after being worried I would be really rusty coming back. I guess we'll see how I play this weekend before celebrating too much.

52 par 35. 32 to 34 degrees with light snow. Ground was very hard and the ball was hard to keep on the greens.

Was my first time at the 9 hole 2578 yard course. Weather was getting worse so the guy gave me a back 9 raincheck.

This is probably a stupid question...but how come we get frost delays until it warms up and the frost is gone, but there are courses (e.g., where Bob played) where you can play in 32-34 degree weather?

I'm guessing it has to do with dew points or humidity or something. No frost if there's no moisture on the ground. And that could be a completely wrong guess.

If it's windy frost doesn't form as easily. I dunno, I was gonna go into meteorology but passed.

Google says:

Frost can form only if the temperature of the air, or the temperature of a surface, is 32 degrees or lower. ... If the dew point is too low, then there is not enough moisture in the air for frost to form. If the dew point is above freezing, then the temperature cannot drop to freezing. So nothing freezes.

Edit: Outlaw wins.

Makes sense.

My club sends out text messages for frost delays, which is nice in theory, but I live 20 minutes away and would inevitably get the text message 5 minutes after I left my house (my weekend group is the first off the tee). They finally started sending them earlier so I could wake up, check my phone, and roll back over if there was a delay.

true story: Heron Lakes doesn't give a rip about frost. they haven't had a frost delay in at least five years, even when frost is on the greens.

I parked the truck at the course just moments before the sun came up yesterday. It was 29 degrees outside according to my weather channel app. I waited about a half hour before someone showed up at 8 am. I was doing my warm up routine in the parking lot when he pulled into the parking lot.

Checked in at the clubhouse and I was off on the short but fun 9 hole executive course. I played the course once around from the tips the day before for my first time on the property.

Scored a very unofficial 49 on the par 35. On the first hole my second shot finished just off the green in the rough on a downslope facing the pin about 15 feet away. I addressed the ball and just as I took the clubhead back, the ball rolled an inch down the hill. I struck the ball anyway. It was a surprisingly clean strike considering the circumstances. It stopped 2 feet from the cup and I made the putt. I marked it 4*.

On the 369 yard second hole my tee shot went about 20 yards. So I hit 6 iron down the left side. I saw it running over the crest of the hill and out of sight approaching a group of trees never to be seen again. After looking for it for a few minutes I decided to drop and continued to make my way around the course. I marked it 7 with a question mark.

After that the round was remarkably clean for me. I didnt lose another ball. Made triple bogey on the 490 yard par 5. Didnt make worse than double bogey for the remaining 6 holes.

Missed par putt on the well protected 265 yard par 4 fourth hole but I made the bogey putt.

Nice 6 iron off the tee* on 252 yard par 4 fifth hole found dead center of fairway. 54 degree wedge landed about a yard too far onto the front edge of the green, bounced high into the air off of the frozen ground, and stopped about 10 yards past the green. My chip shot ran over the green but somehow I made double bogey from the bottom of the false front.

Punched low 3/4 8 iron on 126 yard par 3, landed short and ran through the green to the back fringe. Missed birdie putt from 20 feet. Missed par Putt from 4 feet. Made bogey.

225 yard par 3 seventh hole maybe my favorite hole on course. Hit cut 3 wood that finished just short right of the green. Pitch ran past the flag and into the rough. Another pitch and two putts for double bogey.

Then something miraculously happened on the 305 yard par 4 eighth hole. Found fairway with 6 iron. Held the green with pitching wedge. And 2 putted for an honest par.

Finished with two putt double bogey on 9. Second shot was well short. Third shot bounced off the green. Yada yada yada.

*couldnt get a tee to penetrate the ground thus all tee shots were played from frozen ground.

Fun little course. I'll be back.

40-38 78(par 70). 2 birdies, 1 double

Did something to my back on the range and almost scratched the round. I had already paid so decided to deal with it. Luckily the course is short enough I could bunt it around all day and score ok.

That's crazy. They're pretty strict about it out here, maybe it's the type of grass (I don't know, grass types are one aspect of golf I've never really educated myself on). Our frost delay on Saturday stretched to 10:30, which was just late enough for me to miss out.

Saturday: 40. Only played nine holes after almost not going out. It was windy and raining, and it probably would have only taken a couple in the usual group (which is really 10-15 people) to say "**** this," but enough were willing to play so we played. I don't know what it says about my game that I played pretty darn well considering I was pretty constricted with multiple layers and rain gear. Short game was on point.

Sunday: Super Bowl scramble, and I ain't telling our score. I hadn't planned on playing so hadn't found a group, but two older gentleman wanted to play so I joined them. I told my wife, "I tell you that I usually play with old guys, but these guys were old compared to the old guys." They were great guys and I had a great time, but we pretty much played my ball except for a couple of putts and a couple of mis-hits. That is NOT a good thing for the score, especially since other than 100-yards in, I wasn't hitting the ball well. I love scrambles, mostly for the opportunity to play a course from different spots (read: drives much further than I'm used to). So it was a little disappointing. Can't blame them. I'm sure they were thinking, "why couldn't we get paired with someone who hits the ball 100 yards past us instead of only 50."

Saturday
38-42 80 (par 72) 6700 yards
Pretty uneventful round. 10 pars, 8 bogeys. Drove the ball well but everything else was a struggle.

Sunday
40-42 82 (par 72) 6350 yards
Anything but uneventful. 1 double, 2 triples(b2b holes), 2 birdies. 4? 3-putts.

Played simulator golf today, Muirfield Village. Played really well but the sim had several glitches, including giving me a hole in one on a par 4 before I hit, so I have no idea what I shot.

The funny part was the one guy I was playing with who scored double digits on about half the holes. Twice he teed the ball way up and swiped the tee out from underneath the ball, and the ball didn't move and just dropped where the tee was. The amazing thing I thought I would never see was he managed to lose a ball playing on a simulator. He popped one straight up and there was this ledge by the ceiling the ball disappeared into. He also sit several walls. Waiting on him to take a million shots was brutal but at least he provided some decent laughs.

Played our annual charity scramble. It had the standard BS rules. If you bought the extra $20 ticket (my company paid for the full entry fee) you got 1 mulligan and 1 "it's good anywhere on the green", so basically if you all miss the putt you can count it as made. So we had 4 of those and 4 mulligans. Only other unusual thing is you could play the ladies tees on all of the the par 5s with the ticket as well.

We started on 15 (a par 5) and made legit birdie. This was the only par 5 we didn't eagle. Was -5 making the turn back to 1, including using 2 of our good anywhere putts. Shot 26 on the front (2 eagles and 1 par). Then made birdie on 2 of the last 3 holes. Ended up with a -17.

So without all of the extra stuff we would have shot -13, and if you take away teeing from the reds on the par 5s I would say we would have shot -10.

I actually hit more shots than I would have expected. My hand held together pretty well. I couldn't complete a driver swing for **** so I think I only hit 2 all day, along with 2 other 3 woods. Was really scared going at a couple of mid-irons. Short irons were pretty good.

Received an email and we actually finished in 2nd place. If the prize is cash or something like that we will just ship it back to the charity. If it's pro shop credit then no clue.
