To elaborate a bit about my swing:

with my driver: since I've started opening up my stance a bit and flairing my first foot. I'll take the club back as high up as I can and straight back (feels like I'll set up for a slice) then I just turn my hips, let my hands drop inside and leave my hands open instead of trying to turn them over...and I've been finding a lot of success with that. really long carries, straight, slight cut.

with my irons/wedges: I try to do that same move, and it stays open and I am right of target.
If I try to square my hands up at impact I hit my usual draw/pull...

Insanely inconsistant, starting to think I'm just going about it all wrong and I won't want to keep practicing/playing the wrong way

Spring road trip, got in 90 holes (18-27-27-18). Played like complete and utter ass, which is not especially surprising since I hadn't touched a club since the first week of January. I didn't even look at the scorecards, I assume they were all high 80s or so. Managed a total of 2 birdies.

Driver was mostly OK, probably 60-70% good drives, a handful of bad ones. Didn't convert at all -- GIR percentage definitely in the single digits. Hybrids were inconsistent with plenty of bad ones. Irons were awful. Pitching and chipping were rough early but got steadily better due to massive amounts of on course practice. Putting was WOAT.

Lost a lot of distance, too. Sure, some of it was the conditions, cool, wet courses, wind. But I was ~ 2 full clubs shorter than usual and I'm already a short hitter. I'd make what I thought was a decent swing, catch it cleanly and it just wouldn't go anywhere.

I also hit a driver on a 167 yard par 3 but it was the right play.

Apparently I couldn't remember how to hit a ball the first three holes and started +6. Was decent after that. Three birdies on the back including two 2-putt birdies on the par 5s.

43-39-82 (net -8 64)

one eagle, seven pars, eight bogies, two doubles.
ten fairways, seven greens, three up&downs
31 putts (one chip in, five one putts, ten two putts, and two three putt bogies (grrrrrr)).
one penalty (on a par 5 from 110 out sitting two, chunked into the pond, dropped from the same spot and doubled)
gave four strokes away with the two three putts and the penalty, but also made 4 or 5 putts from longish range way above expectation.
that was my first eagle ever on a par 5. half a dozen or so on par 4s but never a par 5 until today.
most importantly i won money for the fourth week in a row.

35-36-71 yesterday. 5 birdies, 4 bogeys. Bogeyed the first 3 holes on the back 9, but birdied 3 of the last 4 to salvage a good round.

33-35-68. Played one forward tee from yesterday (72.2 rating vs 74.8). Course is very easy from up there.

I failed miserable in my match yesterday. Have to play all 18 for scoring and I lost 12 holes to 6. I do have an excuse though.

The day before I started CrossFit for the first time. I was so sore in my triceps and elbows that I couldn't even swing a club when I woke up. I spent 3 hours with Icy Hot patches and massaging the **** out of my tris in order to manufacture a swing. I barely brought the club past vertical and had a stabby hold off follow through. All things considered I did OK.

One of my courses is exactly the same way. Slope of 141 and you move up a tee to a 130 slope with only about 300 yards difference. The big change for me is being able to hit iron off of a lot of tees and still being able to hit a lot of wedges into greens. Also playing par 3's from 150ish compared to 180+ is night and day difference.

I do crossfit 2x a week. It'll help your golf, but not when you get that sore ha. Leg strength/stability is so incredible for hitting the ball better.

there's no way this can be true because brandel chamblee is absolutely positive core workout exercises have wrecked Rory's game.

42-40-82

2 birdies, 1 double

Thought I was going to have a good round today. Approaches were just lol bad. Missed green and didn't get up and down on the first 4 holes. I have a little over 3 weeks to get by **** straight as I signed up for a FL Mid-Am qualifier.

45-40-85 (-4 net) yesterday
1 birdie, 7 bogies, 2 doubles, 1 triple
8 fairways, 4 greens, 27 putts (9 one putts)
4 penalties. toed a 125 yd tee shot into the pond, wipey sliced the next drive OB, sucked a 110 yd third shot on a par 5 to a front pin off the green into a pond, and pull hooked a 3w off the tee on a short par 4 into yet another pond.

just wasn't hitting the irons as crisply as i have been the past few weeks and my game off the tee was lacking.

highlight of the day was on 17 when i cut a 3w around the corner of a short par 4 to about 50 yds, left the approach about 3 feet away and made the putt for net eagle.
we won the team game by a stroke and i've been in the money for 5 weeks straight.

Is there more complaining about that or about your handicap?

I think mixing in some yoga with CrossFit is the ideal combo.

That's a good idea. I checked my club and they only offer one class that fits with the schedule. I guess it's better than nothing.

40 today

1 birdie, 1 double

Course was closed yesterday for maintenance. They sanded the greens and they are super hard and super fast. 2 3-putts on the first 2 holes. Highlight was coming 15 yards short of driving the 345y 3rd.

no complaining about my HC other than the typical ribbing. i've played with most of these guys for 10 years or so and they are more than aware of how ****ty my game was when my HC was pushing 20 and recognize i'm getting better.

i'm in a transitional period where things have improved over a short period of time to my benefit and i'm able to take advantage of it (especially with the NW having a no posting season through the winter), but i'm on a heater and i'll likely spike a really low score (for me) sometime soon and suffer the consequences of it for months to come until i can clear it from the revision scores.

the way i see it is i'm just getting back the money i've paid those guys over the years, and i'll eventually give it back to them....but i'm going to enjoy this while i can.

It was 34 degrees and pounding down rain nearly all day here in North Carolina. No golf was played by anybody.

funny you mention frost delays. the course we play the most, a local muni, has decided they don't do frost delays any more. this started back in january.
they will close the practice putting green until it thaws, but they still let groups out on the course. doesn't seem to have done any damage so far and the greens on both courses are running great after the spring aeration, but i'm curious to see if it makes a difference as the season gets into the warmer months.

btw if I was salty it was just because I got rained out at Mid Pines which is one of my most favorite courses.

Vacation in the books, did manage to get in 63 holes. The distance loss is real and it is not spectacular. Weather looks favorable for this weekend now that I'm home so looking to get in 18 on Saturday.

Won match play game 11 holes to 7.

Not sure what I shot but it wasn't great. I was just goo enough to win. Was a really windy day.

Was green high, but out of bounds, on a 328y par 4. Then rip shot #3 into the bunker in front of the hole. One of these days I am gonna hit that green. I have come close, but never hit it.
