Finally out for a comp round - course still super soggy but considering the region has had 100-year floods and continuous rain for 3 weeks etc the course was in very good nick. Was only really the areas around 15-18 that had the most casual water.

All bunkers out of play, which doesn't mean much since our course doesn't actually have a lot of them. Only one I found was on 13 but given pin placement I doubt I would've had an issue even with the poor state of the sand.

Anyway, onto the score:

We went 47-47-94 (23hcap) for 37 stableford points, including two wipes.

3 triples

35 putts.

Putted absolutely atrociously. Every single putt from <8 feet I was properly nervous - which I never am - and it showed. I sunk a couple long ones but missed way too many short, including two par putts from 4' - one of which finished with a double bogey.

I also found water on 9+11. I took my drop in the trees on 11 and hit a miracle 2hy cut up and over the trees, onto the green. I rolled through and instead of going up+down for bogey I fluffed my chip and 3-putted like a total rtard. Man, the hybrid shot was sensational though considering my position. If I wasn't playing skins I probably would've just played out onto the fairway.

Overall it's a good score, and should see me lose a stroke off my hc. However, the putting left a bad taste in my mouth. Hit a glorious 60* wedge from 65m out on 12 to 4' and missed a straight one. Sht like that actually hurts and I need to sort it out. *sigh*

Decided to play it a little more smart today and hit less than driver off a number of holes. Would have been a really good round if I didn't flub 2 pitch shots from 50ish yards and missing 3 3 footers on the front.

That's what the card said, I thought it was a couple strokes higher. Ball striking was improved today, really hit some solid irons and a couple nice drives. Short game was meh and putting inconsistent. Some of that is just early season greens.

I have the yips from 30-110 yards.

43 and 2 over on back after 12. It took 4 hours 10 min to finish 12 and I proceeded to hit this shot and I turned around and walked to the parking lot.

Northeast finally saw some warm weather. I took my three kids to visit my mom in Southern New Jersey. She lives on a Par 3 course (Arnold Palmer design). First 4 holes over water, no range, recent aeration, 15-25mph winds.

I shot a 30 (+3) with two 3-putts and a missed 4-footer for birdie with my step-dad and cousin who is new to golf (and puts far too much pressure on himself to do well). I hit every full shot solid. One weak fade, though.

We might go play a few holes with my kids soon.

44-40--84 - Bear's Best Las Vegas

Perfect day to play. I basically didn't make a putt all day. The greens were horrible.

Highlight of the day (I guess) was hitting 3 off the tee on a par 5, hitting 6 iron on the back fringe and two putting for bogey.

46-41. 39*, 15-20mph winds, rain then sleet for final 9 holes. was pretty fun in a stupid way.

38 - 39 = 77
Pretty boring round of golf, didn't do anything great or anything awful, left myself in a few dumb spots making scrambling tough, 1 birdie no doubles.

played the first three holes +6 (bogey, double, triple with a penalty) and the last hole +2 (with a penalty), the other 14 holes were +5 with 1 bird, 7 pars, and 6 bogies (with yet another penalty and a 3-putt bogie)

the course was soggy as expected this time of year (drives were all carry and no roll) and i chunked 4 shots in the sloppy muck on the first three holes. the next 14 holes were solid driving (8/10 FIR) and a string of the best pure iron shots i can remember hitting. technically only 5/14 GIR, but on four other holes i was putting close to the pin from just off the green and 1 putted for a par save. on three of the other holes where i missed the green it was because they were back pins and i pured my approach over the green. i'm not used to hitting irons that well.

can't wait to get out again and have it all come crashing down.

41-45-86 on a very windy Canyon Gate CC in Vegas. 25-30 mph winds with higher gusts.

Case in point 1st hole is a 545 par 5. Hit my drive 347y and hit 7 iron into the green pin high. 2nd hole I hit another good one and hit it 202y. That drive on #1 was my career long drive. Matched the long drive exactly 347y on the 9th again.

Was fun.

Edit: I probably hit a longer one on the 13th but it was in the waste area and hard to judge exactly how long it went.

Wind can be absurd, I hit an 8i almost 190 recently and was just stunned watching it fly. Did not work out very well btw.

Downwind can be pretty tricky. It is always weird on partial wedges when the wind actually knocks the ball down before it can get up and you end up 25 yards short when you were playing for like 20 yards of help.

Played my first 18 yesterday (after playing two 9s at a par 3 course Monday and Tuesday). I had a really nice round going (+2 thru 8) until I tripled the par 5 9th and doubled the 10th. I came in with two more doubles, too.

The 1st Hole was pretty noteworthy. We were the last group to tee off before a high school match, and I was playing with my neighbor with whom I never played. We were paired with a twosome; one dude was pretty good (about a 12-15) and the other dude is just getting back into the game after taking 30 years off. We only held the kids up on the 9th hole, because my hole was a trainwreck (actually two of them on the same hole).

1st Hole:
There's a creek about 260 that runs across it, so I hit 3-iron to lay well back. I pulled it a bit left and a tree knocked it down. I chunked my second shot short of the creek. I hooked a layup around the trees to the fairway and stuffed a wedge close enough to save par. It felt really good.
The rest of the round was pretty scrambly since I hadn't hit a shot longer than a 7-iron or putted on these greens in a while.

3rd round of the year. 46-48-94. Haven't broken 90 yet this year even though I'm striking my irons pretty well, better than last year actually. My putting is just a disaster. Literally 3-putt every single green. Even if my first putt gets to 3-4 feet, I miss the next one. It's frustrating because my goal for the year is to break 80 but I know it's a pipe dream putting like this.

try to feel like your elbows are tucked in close to your body and use your core to make the stroke.

I actually like what Michele Wie does when she is putting now, less the pencil grip set before going to her current grip.
