Let's add a wrinkle to it. What if you were only able to carry 2 balls the whole round. Once they are lost you lose the rest of the holes. Do your club choices change?

Of course but the answer depends on too many things to generalize. A guy I know did a 4 ball reverse scramble so he had to hit each shot 4 times and take his worst one. That's kinda the same as what you are asking, it puts a premium on consistent mediocrity. All these things are great practice cuz it teaches you how easy it is to make a bogey no matter how restricted you are if you use your head and can play a little. And then of course I get my full bag back and find a way to make a couple doubles every round

I hit the ball much better then the score suggests but I blew up on the first, Par five I play two to a hundred yards out end up with a nine. 17th lose a ball off the tee end up with an eight.

3 pars, 6 bogeys, 5 doubles, 4 worse.

41-40-81

Played well today. Good ball-striking, lots of fairways and greens. One birdie, another missed birdie putt of 5 feet, two doubles, and a few putts that should've gone in.

I'm soooo close.

40-43-83. No birdies, 5 double bogeys.

Strange day, not sure if I have ever had a round where I only had one bogey (the first hole at that). Had nine consecutive pars in the middle, then finished double-par-double-double. One of the better ball striking days I've had in a while, particularly with irons.

89 on Saturday, can take some positives from it at least.

43-39 - 82. Teeshots pretty good for a change, irons good but not confident in them one bit. Short game not good damit.

Welp, I must say im satisfied with todays round. Third time out and I go 41 and 37 for a 78 for my second best round ever. I made one adjustment to my wedges and was night and day difference.

40-46-86

Best round of the year so far. 7 pars on the front, 10 overall. Fell apart a little on the back 9. Moving in the right direction.

Played a course I hadn't played in years, and I had forgotten how difficult it was. the greens murdered me today...well, my putting was an accomplice, I'm sure.

42-44-86. Yuck.

Six (!!!) 3-putts. I had one double -bogey, a few pars, and a ****-ton of bogeys. Driving the ball well - hit 13 fairways. Approach shots were okay, nothing special. Just couldn't get the damn ball in the hole.

The triple I hit my first 2 tee shots in the water. Finally hit my 5th in the left rough then hit an 8 iron to 2 feet for a tap-in triple.

up and down 4 times!!!! 14 putts!! Would have been the best my short game has ever been but, I chunked a short uphill pitch that caused the double.

played half moon bay ocean course (san francisco) and indian wells (municipal??? but really nice) in the last week..

not sure i got to final score on HMB but around 90-93........can't remember exactly but a lot of bogeys and doubles............ not that windy (can be very), wide open course in general but if you put it in the fescue you are dead.. thinking LPGA women (who played here but different conditions) wouldn't put too many in fescue but i did..... i think score was 42 and then around 50 on back 9.

indian wells challenge course was interesting....... very very tough. almost 4000 yards from tips on front nine. i played combo of the two tees above whites. i think there were 4 tees beyond whites........... shot about 95. nothing good ever seemed to happen to my ball. very treacherous contouring and fast greens.

nice that i got to hit off grass tees on driving range for once... figured out that my lesser clubs are much better with very narrow stance... i think driver is good with much wider stance (but not a wide stance).... not sure about in-between clubs. it did seem like 3w/5w/3h were pretty good with narrow stance but NOT the driver.

putting i think i would figure out in time at IW but it was really brutal for my round

38 - 36--74 on 72.5 139 course besting my best on this monsterly difficult course by three shots...nuff said

Flying up to NY next week and trying to get on Bethpage Black. I have time Tuesday through Thursday to try and pull it off. Of course my playing partner will want to play the tips at 7,468 yards. Time to put away the 3 wood for the next two rounds at home and start swinging the driver.

Is he that good or is he one of the guys who just has to play the tips? One of the courses I do want to get out and play sometime though. Classic and a challenge,

He is around a 5 cap that can hit the ball in the 280-290 range. But realistically there is no reason we should play the tips. I played a course with him in the past that was 7300 yards and I gave up after the front nine and moved up a set of tees while he stayed back.

Especially not that one. But I am not one to judge if someone wants to play the tips. Anything over 7k gets a bit silly but I don't hit the ball all that far.
