Yup, that's the one! I only saw a few other groups all day, so it was like I had it all to myself. I was definitely impressed with how well maintained the course was. Everything was well manicured and well taken care of and you'll be hard pressed to find such a nice course at that price. It was a fun course to play and I will be stopping there every time I drive through from no on.

Not in the summer. I hate playing in Seattle when the weather is nice, guaranteed 5+ hour round save for a few tracks.

On some tee boxes it took a full minute at least just to get a tee into the ground. Still, I'll take those conditions over non-stop rain.
played the olympic course a few years ago and it kicked me in the nuts. we tried to play the cascade as a reroute but ended up stacked behind some horrible scramble and drove off the course after 7-8 holes.

have you made the trip to salish cliffs yet? it might be the same distance from seattle if you're driving around the sound. it's probably $20 more a round, but it's a great play.

34 points with 3 blobs
Picked up on one hole so no score to report it would have been three figures anyway due to a couple of nines caused by losing balls off the tee. Had a couple of weeks with out swing a club and felt very rusty never really felt comfortable or confident over the ball.

3 pars, 9 bogies, 2 Doubles, 4 worse

Finally got the chance to play 9 holes this week with my good friend who is also a PGA pro at Takapuna, one of my local courses here in Auckland. I just started playing this year at age 37 and I've been getting the odd lesson from him when I can but had never seen him play.

Great to play a round with a real golfer, quite the eye opener as I expected. I've played around 40 rounds this first year so totally obsessed with the game but I'm out there by myself a lot or with other hackers. I was a bit nervous as well as you'd imagine, but got off to a good start with prob my best 4I (playing irons only) drive ever on hole one. First time past 200m (219) and dead up the middle.

I'm a 30hdcp on this course and ended up playing pretty well, 3 pars and 3 bogies finishing for 45 (11 over) so I was happy with that for first time out with the coach! He didn't play that well he said, finishing 1 under, but incredible to see the stopping power and accuracy he had from his towering approach shots.

One big highlight was seeing him make Eagle on the 273m (299) Par 4 9th. It's a sharp dogleg right but the green is completely surrounded by tall trees meaning directly cutting the corner is not really an option. He just did a perfect drive up the fairway with a medium fade around the trees, stopping it all of 3ft from the hole. Most impressive shot I've ever seen. He said he's made eagle there a number of times but always been pitch/chip ins from further out. Really looking forward to playing with him again, super inspiring.

First time I've swung golf club in months

Very very wet...

Played well.stood much closer to ball. Seemed to work with no pulls

Some putting and wedge issues but I'd put that down to very wet conditions. Had to annihilate some putts and they still came up miles short

Down in Costa Rica playing a course I've played many times. Hardly played this summer due to recoving from a broken ankle, and hadn't played since at least September. Walked and carried which I usually don't do, and shot 88, first time I have ever broken 90 on that course. Even finished par-par-par to do it. Happy day!

played this morning after portland received around 1.5" of rain over the past two days. before every putt i consciously told myself to hit it at least half again as hard as i would in the summer. a few holes into the round i realized the correct amount was at least 2x as hard if not 3x.

37 (+1) in tough conditions on a difficult nine holes.

6/7 FW
8/9 GIR
18 putts
3 bogeys 2 birdies
One bogey I shortsided myself in two on a par 5, pitch on top of the hole and had an impossibly lag putt.

Made a sick birdie hit a 4i from 180 into a breeze to a blind pin. Got over the hill and the ball was about a foot behind the hole.

i'm in vancouver, canada........ i think we get even more rain than portland. probably hard to believe.

so we both know about mud balls/lies....... i agree that anything uphill or long i think was 3x effort required.....

... one green is probably 45 yards in length with huge elevation change and the tiny 3rd tier being right at the top. northlands #4 if people know the course in vancouver. #7 and #9 and #18 are crazy too.

flat 10-15 footers didn't need that much more effort. maybe 1.6x or so

44 Stableford points. I won on count back.
84 Strokes.
1 Birdie, 7 Pars, 7 Bogies, 1 Double, 2 Worse.
Still having horrible trouble hitting fairway woods. On the eighteenth I thought I was so far in front I could stop trying, so I went for the green in two with a five wood the result was an ugly worm burner into a bunker luckily I hit a forty yard bunker shot to within six feet and got it down in two.

Finally got a break in the rain so played my local 9 hole executive course, Mission Hills, for the second day in a row today. A Par 30 with three Par 4's. Played two balls, Nike vs Titleist. Shot a 34 with the Nike ball and a 32 with the Titleist. Started off my round with this near miss. Played 119 to the back pin placement today, so hit a nice easy PW since I had basically no warm up. Hit the flag and got a bad bounce...Was my second shot, my first with the Titleist...

Hoping the rain stays away a little longer so I can get some more rounds in! Happy Swinging everyone.

curious if you rotated the ball order based on the result of the previous hole or kept the same order throughout the round.

I did in fact rotate the ball order based on previous hole's results. I just went with alphabetical order to start lol. But from there, whichever ball scored better had honors and carried over if I had the same score with both on a hole.

wow, i never thought of that... that's genius .... and i'm 100% serious.

btw, not sure if others are the same but the difference between totally up my better ball and my worse ball for each hole is massive.

part of the reason i asked is because he said it was an executive course and six out of the nine holes were 3 pars, meaning a good majority of full shots were hit from the same place. i'd also guess the 4 pars are probably less than 300 yards. a large majority of the full swing shots are probably hit from the same place.

i often play two balls on full courses when playing solo...sometimes playing the better ball each shot, sometimes playing the 'badder' ball each shot. when playing two shots from the same place (for me at least), the second shot is the better shot more often than not. it would only be fair for the Nike vs Titleist contest that the 'winning' ball the previous hole have honors.

El_Padroni, i'm also curious if you ever changed clubs on the second shot based on the first shot results...and also interested if you found that the balls rotated honors almost every hole (of course that might be tough on such a short course with a high amount of halved holes).

It was my 5th round in 5 days at my parent's course down in FL. It's only the 8th round I've played since the start of August. It doesn't sound like much, but it's a 7540 yard 76.4 152 rated course from the tips (and played long today because it was quite wet). I'm finally driving it with enough confidence off the tee to play back there. Longest club I hit into a par 4 was an 8 iron. Didn't lose any balls off the tee.

Greens are really tough and a I didn't hit many great iron shots. Very optimistic about my game moving into the new year.

Very interesting thoughts. The Par 4's differ in length. One plays around 360 yards, one at about 320 and the last one at about 275, so there's a little difference in lengths. You're right, there were only a few full shots that differed in lengths and angles based on my teeshots on the Par 4's. I rarely hit driver on any of them and usually hit my 5 wood about 205 to 215 yards, so the difference was in a fairway shot from a muddy lie, or from the rough.

You're right about it being only fair to change order of balls used based on previous hole's score. I've played two balls like this on this course many times, as I usually get out there midday and prefer to play by myself so that I can get the extra ball in, it being an executive course and I usually wanna take more than a few swings. This particular day, I didn't get too much rotation in order. A skulled chip here, a bad lag put there, resulted in the Titleist having honor on a majority of the holes.

In regards to club changing, I only changed clubs based on the first shot on one occasion. It was a tee shot on a par three where the pin was in the back and I was kind of in between clubs based on the direction of the wind. The range finder read 141 to the stick and my first shot was with the Titleist and I hit the green, but only about two paces on, with a 9 iron. I ended up hitting an 8 iron the next shot with the Nike but chunked it a bit and it didn't get much further up on the green lol. Usually I'm pretty good about picking a club and hitting both shots with it, but this time I thought the wind kind of had an effect so I wanted to try another shot.

You're right that usually the second shot you hit from the same location is usually a bit better than the first since you're able to learn from the first. One of the struggles in my game is my ball striking consistency, so sometimes I might hit a great first shot, only to follow it up with a chunk. Or, more recently, due to a swing adjustment, I'm having trouble taming the draw that's suddenly appeared in my ball flight. So, a better second shot isn't always the case lol. Thanks for the interest and the questions!

played a really nice course in vancouver bc that i'd never played before...

redwoods (name??) in langley,bc... very very nice and almost no one playing (partly because belmont down the road has $250 4 month golf pass for winter). so it felt like private course with winter conditions

anyway, very sloppy conditions, tough tight course that i had never played before and very foggy. so hitting into fairways where i wasn't totally sure where they were

played pretty well. 86 with winterish rules/scoring.

i think in trying to hit down on the ball, especially with very short iron shots (wedges/pitches/etc) that many of us amateurs misinterpret something. you want to swing down not slap down into ground. i have been taking way too much turf behind ball so i switched late in round to hitting down but exposing the bounce to the grass and it worked much much better.

gotta figure out my new hybrids/fw instead of mid-long irons and everything R flex setup..... gonna give it more time but might ultimately go back to S for 3W and my irons (6i or 7i through PW).

definitely think moving to fw/hybrids is the right way to go.

one tiny little fix i did on my putting. i tend to pull shorter putts a bit so i basically just aimed a tiny bit further left on every putt that i normally would have. it worked like a charm... i am LH golfer FYI so aiming left would correct.
