Wondering if anyone has any friends or whatever in Q school this year and how they did. I had planned to watch the finals, but may end up being out of town. Do they show all 6 rounds on the golf channel?

There is a kid from my hometown who graduated college this year and this is his first attempt. He was top 3 at Prequalifying, top 3 at first stage and then entered round 4 in 18th just 1 above the cut # in 2nd stage. I was following the scores coming in while watching football yesterday and everytime I clicked refresh a new group was in and scores were high and noone was moving past him, he had shot 67 on Friday and it looked like a 70 would get him in for sure. He comes in 77 with 5 bogeys and 2 double bogeys. A 72 would have got him through to the finals and I believe that would have given him some nationwide status at worst.

I asked Mike Weir about it 2 years after he won the Q...he said it was the toughest week of his life and nothing compares to it.

was following one canadian in particular (ex-georgia bulldog and 3-time canadian amateur winner richard scott). he had poor final round.

a local teaching pro where i play sometimes (bryn perry, north vancouver) missed qualifying either last year or the year before by one stroke. but he was early finisher and took a big gamble that backfired on 18 (not knowing what he needed to qualifer). par would have been good enough to qualify (and i'm talking 3rd stage to tour)

Q-schools are just exhausting mentally and physically.

oh canada!!!

nice day for alot of pro's...... bryn perry, derek gillespie both had excellent days. richard lee came off a bit. but he, jim rutledge and a couple of guys i've never heard of (mckenzie and eger) are all within the top 20.

of course, 2 days to go and only the 2nd stage but things look good.

hey, jim rutledge from victoria, BC won medallist in california. does he win any money?..... i remember my irish barber telling me 20 years ago that rutledge had a world-class long game but shaky short-game. if you don't know rutledge (highly likely), he was the 2nd oldest pga rookie ever last year (43??)

i think 3 other canadians made it thru yesterday.... eger, richard lee, can't remember name (baryla??) from kelowna

i seemingly jinxed bryn perry and mckenzie. sorry guys!

No. Only at final stage do the top players actually receive a cash payout.

canadians not doing so well......... decorso was doing well but 76 yesterday. noticed rutledge is now moving up. and six rounds gives plenty of room to move.

noticed that i'd say many, if not most, of the better known players are nearer to the top than bottom.

how many qualify?

Michelle Wie looks like she could win the ladies event. Who's pulling for her?

Strangely, I feel myself pulling for the Big Break guys, since they're the only ones I actually know.

ESPN had a semi-funny headline: Down Goes Frazar.

59 phenomenal under any circumstances. LOL at the guy in 2000 QSchool who shot 59 but did not earn a card. LOL at Frank Lickliter for winning QS last year and being currently T95.

Smart performance by Wiesy so far, tho you can never rule out a mega-dramadisaster with her. Be good for her and golf were she to win, tho then the wearying qualifier about "first TOUR win" arrives.

Comments from leader Stacy Lewis:

Quote:
No trophy will be awarded Sunday, although Lewis plans to play as if that were the case.

"I want to win," Lewis said. "I wouldn't be terribly upset if I didn't, but that's why I came here."

Lewis, who won an NCAA title while at Arkansas, wouldn't be at Q-school except for an archaic LPGA policy that did not count her earnings from a tie for third at the U.S. Women's Open, the biggest event on the LPGA Tour schedule. That was her first tournament as a pro, and she played in the final group at Interlachen.

"There was more pressure at the Open," Lewis said. "I've felt really comfortable here all week."

It won't bother her playing with Wie, especially after beating her by one shot when they were in the same group Friday.

"She's a good player," Lewis said. "But it's not like she's a step above everybody else."

wow, i used to take harrison frazar as a potential breakout guy in alot of golf pools........ of course, that was 8 years ago.

where's david gossett these days? casey wittenburg too? (don't get me wrong, they might both be on the PGA tour for all i know)

I love that Lewis said she wants to win. Hope she does.

I think Wie can get it done. Sounds like 80 would be good. LPGA needs her to get her card.

She's already taken quite a few penalties it seems. The summaries I've read always seem to mention a wild hole or two, but she's making a lot of birdies, too.

Funny that (on top of reading summaries of the rounds) I just found myself wondering what the birdie stats were for the LPGA Q. That is the power of the Wie machine.

I'm pretty sure I remember gossett not making it far in the process last year trying to get his card through the q school.

eta: I think he won on the nationwide last year. Maybe in Idaho (or the greater Idaho area?).

I know him...I played at the same club he started at and his parents still play at. He was a bomber for sure. He's kicked around the mini tours for years and hasn't really ever made it big. He makes a living, though.

Got a few buddies that tried Q school this year one whom is Jeff Castle, missed second stage by 1 shot after a third round 77 blow up. His first year trying, so he'll be back. Have not had any close friends make it all the way through but some kids/guys I played junior golf with are on tour now some via Q school others grinded the Nationwide Tour this year and made it through.

No idea about Gossett but I think a few others already commented on his current status.

Wittenburg will be on tour next year as he was in the top 25 on Nationwide Tour this year the last time I checked. He's solid.

Did Richard Lee play college golf at Georgia? Or was he the one who elected to forgo college for the pros?

richard scott from kingsville, ontario (on lake erie) won the canadian amateur 3 times in a row (i think), was some kind of all-american at georgia and missed qualifying at 2nd stage this year.

richard lee is the korean kid from vancouver that forgo'ed college golf to go pro. did pretty well at level 2 and now i think is doing poorly at level 3 (he's now listed as from arizona alot of places, but he was playing at marine drive in vancouver as a teenager).......... he and another wonder kid (eugene wong.... name???) who won the world juniors sometimes play at a course i know and it is inconceivable that they drive the first hole, but apparently they do
