I always thought US open being open the tournaments were typically played on courses the public could play. Don't hate the course, don't love it and wouldn't care if they never played another US open here.

That’s never been a thing for the Us Open. They’ve been mixing in more public courses in the last 20 years or so though.

Crowd still sucks but what are you gonna do.

Scottie finishing eagle-birdie on 17&18 was nuts.

Still like Rickie to win. Putter was a little shaky today but he is striping the ball.

One of the more random things that it is interesting to me is the sand, how much a deviation from the usual presents a unique challenge. Makes the bunker an actual hazard instead of an ideal place to miss and an easy up and down.

This could be a potentially all-time top US Open with better fans and better coverage from NBC (the commercial load is just insane... and sorry but "Playing Through" is a commercial and that's a third of the broadcast).
these are all very accurate summaries of my thoughts.
spent all yesterday at the inlaws and had the broadcast on from start to finish in the other room.
i do appreciate how the course requires ability to hit quality shots of all distance from ad hoc tee boxes, and the back nine contains several scorecard landmines if you get yourself out of position. sweep the mind.
but the crowd is about as excited as i would be watching the monkeys and peacocks play in hef's 14th hole zoo.

revots, your point about the sun out is another example of how tv viewing can flatten the dimension of landscape.
one of the best parts of the broadcast are the graphic scenes that show elevation change and slope.
KJ, i'm curious what you think.

and i hope someone else is watching Adam Hadwin mail in the end of his round. he just called himself a stupid mother trucker on live tv.

but i will say the architecture of that course would be fantastic to play as a rank amateur.

i will say the architecture of that course would be fantastic to play as a rank amateur from the appropriate distance.

quick to admit i'm not the kind of guy who's trying to stop a hybrid five yard fade blind over trees onto the green of a 290 par three after banking it off the left slope of the right bunker and have it drift towards the hole.

but George Thomas Jr seems to have crafted quite a playground for us golf labradors who just want to hit the ball, fetch, and repeat.

and once again Gil Hanse arrives upon a crime scene, forensically interprets the chalk outline of the original designers vision, and restores the glory of a legacy course otherwise lost to history

Out of the 9,000, it’s believed just half were allotted to the general public, as LACC gobbled up somewhere in the range of 4,000 to 4,500 of those tickets. (A persistent claim leading up to the championship was that LACC attempted to buy all of the tickets. A USGA official would not comment on the matter.)

Happened to me once. Hole cut not deep enough, hit off the rim of the cup and bounced right out of the upper lip of the plastic. About the same distance.

'pulled out the tablecloth on that wedge' would be such a great announcer statement
shame he whiffed it in the moment
more whisky, perhaps
not exactly sure who's announcing the us open live stream but it sounds like it's direct from hasselhoffs tiktok

Fleetwood's an odd duck. He goes -8 for the round with an eagle and is totally blase and nonchalant about it. Then leaves a putt in the heart an inch short and acts like it's a practice round. Totally listless almost. I pull for the guy but it seems an over the top attitude. I get the grinding even keel thing, but an eagle to threaten 62 or better and move into contention from nowhere in a major, and it's like he was way exaggerated zero reaction. Like passive aggressive and mixed feelings about winning, yo.

the powers that be (i guess that means MBS now) have to do away w AimPoint. Fleetwood's caddy was just straddling the cup, inches from the cup, walking up and down back and forth. what the fk are we doing guys? smh

Not true at all. It takes some diligence but I golf every weekend on public tracks and household income is equivalent to 2 Midwest school teachers. I play around 10+ different courses throughout the year not including Palm Springs trips. I live right down the street from Rancho and about 3 miles from LACC. The hardest thing is to just get a tee time for 4. There are also a ton of men’s clubs in SoCal so you can join a couple of those to get times too.

LACC and Riv aren’t that expensive relative to Resort courses. About $125 - 145 for the round, Caddy extra (though you can carry your own bag, no push carts allowed). Of course you need to play with a member which can be hard depending on your circle.

The course looks great and unless you want some Shinnecock fire conditions keeping the scoring around 12 under is expected. This course isn’t as tough as Riv after all.

Yeah, he's got demons. He just hit a putt that looked like 59-year-old Tom Watson's on the 72nd hole of a major. Worst putt of his life maybe. No reaction. In fact, totally flattened out non-reaction, non-full involvement. Weird dynamic.

Jeezus that exit interview with Fleetwood sounded about like Farrah Fawcett on Letterman. Like ... huh??? What??? This dude is completely mind frigged about it all. Got plenty of game, obviously. He'll win. But he's in a weird coping spot.
