Scott, glad you're feeling better!

So last year I played at a CC with a new buddy. He's a member but invited me every weekend. He told me I should get on the waiting list (first time they ever had a waiting list as a competing CC recently went public). So I did. Got an email yesterday saying sorry, maybe next year. Got am email today saying that one person dropped out and the spot is mine if I want it.

So, I'll be a CC member for the first time. Hooray.

It's a no frills CC but whatevs, I enjoy the course and the price is right. I figure the break even price is about 36 rounds. Should be do-able.

Congrats, no frills CCs are very underrated. Sure the full service CC has its advantages but they always come with a price tag. If you're primarily there for golf it can be hard to swallow.

Good thing I have a high pain tolerance. Felt the IV go in although not that bad. Then I had a nerve blocker for my right hand. That was the biggest needle ever and it went in right around my armpit! Luckily I didn't really feel that one too much. I remember being wheeled into the operating room and that's it. Dont remember them saying here comes the knockout juice or anything.

Wake up in recovery. Apparently I don't sleep well on my back. They said to get checked for sleep apnea. They had to stick a tube in my throat to get me to breathe better.

The nerve blocker is no joke. I couldn't feel anything below my elbow until about 1am. When I hopped into bed my arm hit my face, had no control of it, lol.

So far I have taken just one of the oxycodone pills they prescribed and that was to go to sleep the first night. Have stuck to regular advil since. Yesterday the hand was really tight and sore. I have a wrap and a splint on it that will stay on for 2 weeks until I get the stitches out.

Today I feel great!
Good luck on the recovery bro!

The neuro called me back last week, no irregularities in my head and neck mri so I'm relieved about that. However, my hands are still a compete mess. I went for a walk the other night in 0c/32f temps with my down jacket and gloves on and when I got home I could barely move my arms and hands until I ran them under hot water. I work in IT and it's going to be pretty hard to sustain my career if I can't type lol. At least it appears I'm out of the woods for an MS diagnosis but there is definitely a significant nerve impairment or damage going on.

Just not having MS is a big deal. Hope you can get the nerve issue sorted!

wow, no MS. that's gotta be a relief. I know, you still need a resolution.

Thanks guys! 6 week wait to see the neuro for a hands on and then I assume there will be conductivity testing. This is going to take months to resolve. F socialized medicine amirite?

I'm slowly getting through No Laying Up's Tourist Sauce season of Ireland, where Tom Coyne features. Pretty neat that he walked the entire damn country and played every lick of golf it had to offer. Would imagine that was exhausting, he said in one of the NLU videos that it rained for 32 days straight for one stretch.

both books are a fun read. a really ambitious undertaking that still makes me ache when i think about doing it myself. to be fair, he did get a few rides from place to place, but he didn't have a rental and relied upon either his legs or his thumb.

60 degrees and sunny all weekend and I decided to strain my traps deadlifting on Friday night. Been applying this muscle butter that my herbologist ex girlfriend made. Seems to be helping.

That sucks, but at least it wasn't the lower back.

That's for damn sure. My lower back is pretty wrecked from 12 years at my previous job. In the past 6 months I've had to bail on golf a handful of times because I aggravated my back doing something as basic as drying off after a shower. Getting old sucks.

Stitches out in 8 days. Hopefully golf soon after. Haven't had any pain in it at all since around Thursday.

i have yet to determine if its a muscle thing or a spine thing, but as time goes on without much improvement im becoming more and more convinced that i might have a bulging disc near the top of the thoracic spine. either that or the tear in my traps is centered near the spine, perhaps even directly on some of the vertebra processes where the trap connects.

good news is that i dont have shooting pain down my arm, which hopefully is indicative of healthy nerves going from spine to arm. there is no tingling nor numbness, thus no nerves are being pinched by inflammed muscles, as has been my experience with shoulder/neck injuries.

for rehab ive not been streching much, just a little bit at times when im feeling particularly loose(or less stiff, as it were). but ive been doing some light shoulder mobility stuff to hopefully get some much needed bloodflow to the affected area without stressing it too much. also i took a 20 min hot bath last night, which felt pretty damn good. afterward i put on some of the muscle butter that ive been doing morning and evening every day since the injury, and then i laid down. slept well for a few hours but then the cat started being a bed hog. been up since 5 am. i can hear the birdies outside telling me to go golfing with the sunrise. the birdies will have to wait.

In my experience, very few clubs have the number or quality of amenities to justify a "frills" price tag. A bar is pretty much all I need.

That said, I was a member of a club that had a pretty nice pool facility with cabanas you could rent for a super cheap.

I wish my CC was a no frills kinda place. You know the golf revenue pays for the losses or tennis and the pool. Based on the cost of the bar/restaurant I'm guessing they do pretty good.

I got a great device recently to help with back tightness, it functions the same as a chair massager. Might be worth investing in. This is an amazon Canada link but probably available on US amazon too.
