The Steve Williams fallout is crazy. I know Tiger seemed capable of cutting friends and women out of his life at times based on the documentary but cutting the guy that was beside you during all those years of success and just thinking of all the great memories they must have shared together over simply caddying for another player while he was out? Just feels like there must be more to that story.

Good doc overall. I don't think it was unfairly biased either and while Tiger might not be proud of some moments shown in the film, the obvious ones, it really did still portray him in a fair and decent light imo.
Things that shocked me and never knew
Enquirer burying the first affair
Tigers dad a playboy
Way he cut Stevie out of his life
I agree on the Chairmen of the Masters give me a break . Kudos to Tiger for not replying to that

I agreed with the one guy that say Tigers press conference apologizing was a mistake

Kinds reminds me of my pro shop. You park the carts outside the shop and it has floor to ceiling windows. There is a curb and a waist high piece of wood, both made to prevent people going through the window. So far in the last 5 years I have seen the results of 3 carts going through the windows. I guess olds get confused between forward and reverse a lot.

I suspect the press conference had to do with keeping sponsors on board.

It may have been in the Hank Haney book, but there was also a story about Stevie flying from NZ to the US for a tournament that Tiger had decided to withdraw from but didn't bother to tell him. In other places Stevie also said the Tiger thing caused him problems in his marriage, because his wife was like wtf is going on out there on the road.... He wanted Tiger to talk to his wife to let her know he wasn't his running buddy in that way but Tiger wouldn't do it.

The shaft is actually more important than the head. Fitting for head is easy, fitting for shaft is not.

my first thought as well.

there are a couple of muni courses at the same location in PDX that don't do frost delays, managed by Kemper Sports (who also manage Bandon, Chambers, Sand Hills, Streamsong, etc), and designed by Robert Trent Jones II. they just haven't done it for the past several years. the grounds crew will go out early and whisk the frost off the greens before the first group, but that's pretty much all they do...never have to wait.

i don't know if it's because the type of grass on the greens isn't as prone to breaking when frozen as other types, or if they just don't give a rip. i suppose we are in oregon where growing grass is one of the best things we do, so maybe that has something to do with it?

Yeah I'm fairly certain that some courses just dgaf.

I'm quickly finding out where the dgaf courses are located.

Greens were quite frosty yesterday and hard as rock. I consider having 2 birdie putts a moral victory.

On the sad golf news front. Hurt my hand yet again about a week ago. Going to take 2 more weeks off, then gonna rehab for another 4 weeks after that. So no golf for me the next 6 weeks.

Good luck with the wrist. Whats your rehab program look like? I ask because I'm a firm believer that in order to make the body strong enough to perform sports on a regular basis, one must train to be in better shape than the sport requires. For example if you cant climb a 6000 foot mountain, you probably shouldn't be climbing a 4000 foot mountain. Likewise if you're not ready to chop wood and swing a sledgehammer, you're probably not ready for golf.

Cue Gary Player the more you know ad. Love that guy.

I was thinking about the parallels of links golf and frozen new England winter golf. I'm literally looking at these greens thinking about landing it between 10 yards short of the green on short shots and 50 yards short on long shots. I think it's lol but at the same time ive never had to think about golf this way. Sure ive played run up shots. Even made a 147 yard hole in 1. Low cut 7 iron into the wind landed quite short and rolled in. And I've gotten out of some fun lies in the woods. So I'm no stranger to the punch shot. Frozen ground is different. Its so ridiculously unforgiving.

Kinda bummed can't read trip reports because my phone cant handle all the pictures and videos it just perpetually loads the page and continuously jumps around making it difficult to follow.

I bought a large bucket the other day. Didnt finish it.

Sucks. Hang in there and keep up that rehab, even when it feels better.

Unsure as to the rehab process right now. I'm about 1-2 weeks out from starting that so I really need to figure that out really fast. Current plan is to hit golf balls again 3 weeks from today and play my first round the 3 weeks from Tuesday. If I feel any pain at the start I'm going to shut it down right away and go back to the doctor for recommendations.

I can really feel the hand getting better, although when I make an odd movement with it I can still get a jolt of discomfort.

My ultimate target is our big charity scramble on 2/26. I have two other players in my group who are just as long as I am so I will not have any pressure to swing out of my shoes. I can be the guy getting us into play off of the tee.

My tourney schedule doesn't kick off until April this year. I am skipping the qualifying for the state Mid-Am and Am competitions this year for reasons I will get into later. It is for the good though, more details to come.

I would say that at least 50% of the golfers I know over the age of 60 would be entirely unable to chop wood or swing a sledgehammer to any meaningful extent. They're just fine riding around in a cart and swatting at a ball, though. Some of them even walk.

scott - are you wearing a splint/have it immobilized? by no means am i a doctor, but giving it solid rest with no activity for a couple of weeks can't hurt. should probably be longer but i'm not sure you can be convinced of that.

When I initially hurt it yes I did. The second go around no. I have been using a Copper Fit compression glove off and on. I mostly use it when I am using CBD cream or roll-on.

What concerns me even more these days is that it aches from time to time during the day and gets me to wondering if it is now worse than it initially had been. I still have 2-3 more weeks for this to play head games with myself. I want it to stop but that's not likely.

I would definitely see if you can find a physical therapist that knows a decent bit about the hand. The only thing that fixed my wrist was doing piles of exercises daily for months.

Golf has never been in a better place in my opinion. Having golf balls/clubs that are slight mishits snap hook or banana slice and go nowhere doesn't make people want to play. Pro golf is amazing. Who cares if the top 1000 players in the world can shred an easy golf course? The ball doesn't really go any farther than 20 years ago when the proV came out, it's just way easier to keep your mishits in play. That's fun.

Feels like a lot of old men longing for the days when guys would hit 5 irons into par 4s (actually a modern 7 iron with a 5 stamped on it).

i thought this part was really odd

Quote:
The R&A and the USGA believe, however, that any further significant increases in hitting distances at the highest level are undesirable. Whether these increases in distance emanate from advancing equipment technology, greater athleticism of players, improved player coaching, golf course conditioning or a combination of these or other factors, they will have the impact of seriously reducing the challenge of the game. The consequential lengthening or toughening of courses would be costly or impossible and would have a negative effect on increasingly important environmental and ecological issues. Pace of play would be slowed and playing costs would increase.
longer play shouldn't impact the local courses at all. just move back a set of tees if you don't find it to be a challenge, and if you've moved back as far as you can, find another course that's more of a challenge to your ability. the overwhelming majority of players don't need a course to be lengthened or toughened.
