Went to a demo day today. So much fun hitting all the new stuff. Didn't buy anything (got a club regripped at least) but if I had a spare $600 in my pocket I'd be playing some Ping G25 hybrids tomorrow.

Rocco on Feherty discussing online/live poker, very lolworthy

Rocco seems like such a headcase.

Is he really homeless? They made it sound like he's squandered nearly 16 million.

And yes the way he talked about poker was LOL-worthy. Probably a huge fish who donked off 7 figures easily.

I don't blame Tiger for not writing anything meaningful on his US Open flag sheet - he probably assumed Rocco was going to pawn it off for the WSOPME buy-in.

ended up winning by 13. strangely (smartly?) enough, I had handicapped the strokes I should give him at 13 and just opened at 9 which he jumped on.

he golfed pretty well too, 2 doubles, one par and the rest bogies. it's just too much to overcome when you have to make 8 good shots for par..

first tee he crushes his first drive down the middle, second drive he pushed into the water..then it hit him.

good times tho, fun bet. I'd probably give him 11.5 next time, I was -3 with no real mistakes so I was just about maxed out.
This sounds like a great way to simulate the pressure you might feel in a tournament or something... Especially after making the first putt from 7-15 feet and knowing the next one is makeable and you have to have it...

Also, if you hit a terrible shot it seems like the smart move would be to intentionally hit another bad shot to a spot you'd rather be playing from, hoping the other person might make a mistake and pick the wrong ball. Of course, if you mis hit that you could REALLY be in a bind.

I got to choose though, so unless you're talking about being stuck in an in-between yardage (which I wouldn't know), you're getting the tougher of the two shots.

I def gave him the shorter but harder shot once or twice. especially putting, one was 15 footer vs 10 footer but the shorter one had a lot more break.

Does anyone here hate 460cc drivers? Tried a 460 for the first time today and couldn't trust it...total absence of feel.

I'm bringing the GOAT driver in my bag...yep I just bought a 1998 Titleist 975d 7.5* that look like new for 35$. Idk why I got rid of mine 10 years ago but I regretted it. That thing won 4 majors in a row at the beggining of the 21st century so it can't be too bad!

I'm basically talking about just trying to trick you into a mistake in the decision making. Perhaps trying to get a better approach angle or yardage despite being farther away or something, just to trick you. Of course, chipping the ball into a weird spot might be kind of obvious anyway.

Just intrigued by the game theory situation of hitting a second shot that you know the better you hit it the less good it does you...

This may not have as much to do with the size of the head as the swing weight of the club. Some manufacturers are making them lighter and lighter for added speed, but it can reduce feel. I sometimes decelerate with lighter clubs because they just don't feel right to me.

Try swinging a 460cc driver with a few grams of weight added. to the base of the shaft. About 2 grams equals one swing point, so even 5-6 grams should make a big difference.

A lot of the companies have a more "tour" model driver that's generally shaped a little different, and may be a bit smaller as well. I wouldn't pass up on what new technology has to offer, although I did love the **** out of my D for a long time before I finally upgraded to the K. (I still use the D2 now)

I should add that I use a fairly light weight shaft though to keep the swingweight up.

why does everyone take off their hat to shake hands after the round? is it rude to shake hands with your hat on?

how often are there demo days and is there anywhere online you can see when/where upcoming demo days are scheduled?

The director of gc ops speaking of the rough at Merion, "swinging through that is going to be like swinging through a pile of ropes"

"I could get a bowling ball dropped from 500 feet to bounce on them" talking about the greens, lol

Guy doesn't use a Stimpmeter..."my definition of good green speed is when you're able to read the brand of the ball while its rolling"

"Its going to be a chess match. I've been waiting all my life to play Bobby Fischer. Im going to have some fun the week of the open"

Fingers crossed it doesn't rain.

any thoughts on drivers and spin? This is a long standing issue with me. I obviously lose a ton of distance because I put too much spin on the ball with my driver. I used to hook the ball with my r7 so I switched to my wife's Callaway Ft-5. I hit it dead straight but put A TON of spin on the ball. So I upgraded to the 9.5 degree FT9 Tour probably 3 or 4 years ago with an extra stiff fubuki shaft. Better, but I still clearly put too much spin on it.

My bro in law is trying to sell me on the new Titleist 913 D3 8.5 or even 7.5. I have (8.5) it in my bag as a demo and played it the other day. Hooked too many of them to feel comfortable just buying it, but seemed to go a bit farther ??????

More spin will straighten the ball out, as you've found. It'll also make it go higher and shorter in most cases.

Getting it in play more often is way more important than an extra 20 yards in 99% of situations.

So spend your money on lessons to figure out how not to chop down on it with the driver/snap hook it instead of a new driver.

It's funny how all week the golf channel has been discussing with 4 of the rounds of 61 @ the Byron Nelson was the best. And of course they always prop up their fatboy Charlie Rymer and show him asking for chips every year.

Glad this will never happen again because Keegan shot a 60 today. Thank you, Keegan.

RBK, it's just a tradition rooted in class or whatever. I enjoy the post-round handshake and I always take my hat off and say "good game" or whatever. We've had this discussion before and some people here don't remove it.

Some guys on tour don't even do it. I think it's a cool tradition and I like seeing players remove their hat. If for no other reason, than to see how surprisingly bald some of them are. Looking at you J Byrd.

No, it's so that we all can have a good laugh at how ridiculous they look with their overly obvious forehead tan-lines.

I always take my hat off for the post round handshake for two reasons... One, I like the tradition and two, when I occasionally play at a nicer place where it's absolutely expected, I like to have the habit ingrained.

95% of the time, someone I'm playing with makes a joke about it or acts a bit sheepish after not taking theirs off.

Never had anyone make a joke about me taking my hat off. Maybe they are thinking it, though. Who cares - I like taking it off.

I sweat like a bastard anyway so any time I can remove my hat and catch a breeze is welcome. I really need to switch to a visor b/c I have very thick hair. But I think visors look stupid.
