I need a hybrid. I play down to a 4 iron, need something to fill in the gap below the 4. Any brand suggestions to try out?

Wow. I would never give anyone unsolicited advice. I mean, it's different if it comes up in conversation and you're talking about mechanics and he shows you something. I don't think there's a pro out there that would expect money for anything like that. If there were any ulterior motives at all, this was just like giving you a taste of the crack trying to get you hooked.

There is a new forum for japanese domestic market clubs (JDM), check it out here: http://jdmclubhouse.com/index.php. not much there now, but could be good later on for anyone interested in epon, miura etc.

Thanks for the reply. The more I thought about it the more I thought the bolded was probably correct; more of a marketing move than anything. It worked, btw. It was my first ever "lesson" of any kind and, much like joining a club, I'm banging my head against the desk trying to figure out why I waited so long.

Add two strokes to his score for giving unsolicited advice imo.

anyone have experience with clubs that just randomly stop working? my driver was going nowhere today. i was hitting my 3wood farther and it's older technology. my driver is an R11, when i first got it it made a very distinctive sound, it was very deep, more of a "pong" than a "ping." now the sound is very damp, like an old steelhead, no resonance.

Inspect it really closely for cracks/face caving in

If you do find that it's busted, take it into a golf shop that sells Taylor Made equipment and you'll likely be able to get it replaced. Might just cost shipping, or it might not cost anything at all. If they say No, I'd call around and find one that will talk to their Taylor rep. Someone else here may have a better suggestion or more accurate info.

How big a golf leak is it playing old clubs? I'm 27 and play the same irons that my dad bought me when I was 14 or so. Maxfli cavity backs. Thinking about buying some new irons but not sure if it's worth the value. Handicap about 8.

Golf rounds per year is horrific variance. Last year 40 rounds, this year maybe 5, next year probably more when I move back to Australia.

Not having clubs that fit you is a pretty big disadvantage. Just a few tweaks can really improve your ball flight/results.

I was coming in here actually to post about getting fit. Just an FYI for people. Be weary of getting fit at big box stores like PGA Superstore and whatever else there is.

We had a kid that just left our outside staff/cart staff to go work at a PGA Superstore recently, and just this past weekend they had him doing a bunch of fittings. Naturally he has no idea how or what to do as he has had no training or education on the subject and PGA Superstore had not trained him. He barely plays any golf. What a train wreck.

Just make sure whoever is fitting you knows what they are doing.

I hate these days when I am torn what to do. Today is a day like that, nice weather and I have 6 hours where I can choose to play poker or golf and I cannot decide...urgh. I want to do both!

Go play. You'll feel better later in the day having done some physical activity and you'll sleep better.

I post about it every now and then and I know nobody gives a **** but I like to vent...

Prior cliffs: The small 9-hole public golf course that I grew up playing was bought by a rich douche named Cleve. Land was federally subsidized and can only be used for a public golf course. Held the community hostage & rented the course out to us at high cost. In a dumb display of power this winter, he demolished all buildings on the property and closed the course.

Well, now the city (small rural town) is trying to jump into action. They have estimated that they can come up with roughly $1 million in funds which would have to be used to buy the property, build the clubhouse and outbuildings again (can't express how badly I hate Cleve) and nurse the course back into playable condition.

Ideally this must happen soon. The water system consists of pumping creek water into a pond on the highest point of the property (a really gorgeous, really hilly canyon-land) and letting gravity and a small pump feed this water into the sprinkler systems. All watering is done by hand, plugging in the big copper sprinklerheads that were probably common in the '60s. Yeah I worked there for a summer and it sucked. But a certain amount of maintenance must be done each year to get that system to even work, so if it gets neglected for much longer it probably will be unsalvageable.

This guy bought the course for $400k, and I imagine he won't settle for much less than 6-700k. He knows he has the community in a vice grip regarding this course (his plan all along, I'm sure) and he's a greedy pig in general, so I'm fearing the worst but hoping for the best. The city has a small committee working on it and arranging funding and meeting Cleve to discuss offers, so I'm told, so I'm hoping that if this gets done by June or July the course might be saved at a reasonable cost. Just an all-around sad deal caused by greed. As if this guy didn't get rich enough off of The Prairie Club. and his million dollar ranches and real estate. ****.

Thoughts on shaft lengths for hybrids? I have +1" on irons and standard on woods/driver. Same question for lie angle too, with 2* upright on irons but std on woods.

I know it isn't your specific question but I have a 3-hybrid (21*) and carry it around 220.

I'd expect that I would carry a 4-hybrid somewhere around 205
